View Full Version : idea for projector headlight...tell me what you think

I was looking at the headlights for a while looking for what other method of retrofitting headlights would work. Correct me if I am wrong but it looks like we can fit a 3" projector and a 2" projector with no problems. Would this cause overheating inside of the housing?

The reason for the 2 projectors is the 2" would be the fog light and the 3" hi/low beam. And all including the turn signal would have halos. the turn signal led behind the halo would be amber/orange.

Any input would be appreciated. I don't even want to think about starting this if not feasible.

^^^ wow, those are actually pretty nice looking... might be worth taking a trip to the junk yard to try this myself.

If you can find an xD in the junkyard let me know please. I need an ECU that's mounted just above where an in-cabin filter goes behind the passenger side of the dash.

I've been looking hard at our lights as well and I see a lot of potential in our housing. I think there's 2 ways to go. One is what you are thinking, though I think it'll be an ENORMOUS cost to do a retrofit like that. The other would be to do something similar to the post above and have a single projector with a bi-xenon HID if you want to keep high beams. You could always drop the turn signal on the inside area of the housing.

do you think that the housing can take that kind of heat though? That is one of my main concerns even considering doing this? Looking what that other guy did on cafexd was what made me think of it in the first place. He has only one projector though.

im probably wrong about this, but dont HIDs run cooler than normal halogen?

Put in a bi-xenon projector....no sense in putting two projectors in...

that is the plan to have the 3" one a bi xenon. From looking though it seems that a solenoid is required for the high beam to work properly....is that right? I thought a bi xenon hid kit was all that would be needed?!?!?!

It takes a while. I waited over a week. How long ago did you sign up and what screen name you using? I can send one of the admins a pm.

Yes, a solenoid flips a guard out of the way, or shield....which let's the light go above the light cut-off making it a high beam.

A single projector shouldn't generate enough heat to do anything to our housing. Dual projectors, with both running constant, might cause issues.

IIRC, HIDs run cooler than Halogens, but your plan with a fog light system running in the housing would generate more heat just from the multiple bulbs
