Default What are most of you built motor guys running?

I'm looking into start collection parts for my winter motor build. I pretty much already know where I want to go with parts, still waiting on reviews from the new "toyotech" or whatever it will be called. My question is. What psi are you guys running? I'm either going to be running the t3/t4 i currently have or a GT30. I haven't decided yet. I was looking at running around 18-20psi. Is this possible on pump gas with the tc? Please also add any input you think would help.

in order to run boost that high, you'll need a new intake. the plastic one will never hold up to that kind of pressure

Not sure on intake manifold, but to run that much power on pump gas you will need 3 things for sure. Head porting, valvetrain upgrade and camshafts from BC. You HAVE to improve breathing and efficiency at higher RPM's to maximize your power per unit of Oxygen. VVTi tuning a must and I would save up for a Hydra EMS as you will need something sophisticated to handle the tuning for power and for reliability's sake. I haven't seen the compressor maps on your T3/4 but depending on what GT30R you have you may want to upgrade to a GT35R instead. The T3/4 aren't nearly as efficient on the compressor side and you want the most effiecient airflow possible to maximize power on such a low octane. My personal fave is the GT35R HTA with the stainless Tial exhaust housing. Make more power on pump gas than any other turbo I've ever tried and spools up great even with stock displacement. I've made 501 WHP on an STi with straight 93 octane (no alcohol or water injection) and that has more drivetrain loss than a TC. Keep in mind the STi doesn't have the most efficient heads in terms of motors so making that much on a Tc motor might be possible. I'm putting together a build right now with that turbo but won't be ready till next year. Will post results. The GT35R HTA is on there already though and making 360 WHP on 93 octane with the stock motor. This is at only 10 PSI and the car is a daily driver for over a year now with no problems at all. Remember that PSi is irrelevant. The power number is what you want so do not concern yourself with PSi. I don't even look at it much when tuning other than a reference point of where I am at. The goal is power and if you can reach it at 14 PSI instead of 18 all the better. Another thing you have to watch is the IC core. A lot of stock motor guys run tiny cores to save their bumper beam which is fine when making 250-300 WHP but when you're trying to make bigger numbers they will not work well. IC efficiency is also important. Lastly, don't forget the radiator upgrade (available from Car Candy Motorsports in the vendor forum). Cooling will become more important since energy is heat and making that much power in undoubtably increase the heat the motor gives off and needs to shed (this is especially true of cars running thick large IC cores which block the airflow to the rad). These are the basics without getting into a novel.

15 psi w/ 430 to wheels w\GT 30 r. I also want to hit the 500 mark and hoping to push a goal of 25 Psi. lots invovled. fuel return line is needed. and yes the stock mani needs to go. I'm hoping to get one from RMR soon. been about 7 months in the making. But its going to be well worth the wait. They also have a fuel rail that I also want to pick up. I finally got my aem ems so I can get rid of the Ultimate. Hoping to make this power soon.

well fuel return system (pressure regulator) is recommended really on anyone with boost... how much psi could i run safely daily driven with pistons, rods, bearings and head studs?

why not just do what chris rado did, 90% stock with stock head also pushing over 500 whp

psshh... I hope you were Joking... You have understand: You might see a youtube video of him saying "We're using a stock transmission" but he fails to tell you that the transmission is the 5th one that they put in the car that particular weekend... this seemingly goes for alot of the "stock-ness" of his car...

He's no "budget baller"... Scion's got his @ss... as long as he is their official fan boy they will continue to replace parts he blows up.

alright, I'll rephrase it... in order to safely and reliably run boost that high, for any period of time, you're going to need a different intake. The stock one will never hold up to that kind of pressure.... feel free to ask Todd/Joe/Pito.
