Optima Info
so i'm upgrading my electrical system since i'm planning on going pretty heavy with the sound system and am starting to piece together what i need. i already have an upgraded alternator in the works so i figure i'll scoop up a battery. i'm looking at an optima but i'm not sure which is best for my application. red or yellow? let me know.

Red is good for starting, and everyday use. Yellow is a deep cycle, good for cars that get stored in the winter or sit for a long time both are good. I run a red top in my car they last about 8-10years and should be $115-$130. The yellow dont last as long and run a little more I think around $150-$175. My car has sat for over 4months and started right up no problems. I can run my system for a couple hours full blast with the car off no problem.

I'd go w/ the Red Top, the Yellow Top is for deep cycle which is theoretically better but really not needed as many people think. My Yellow top died after 3 years on my Lexus. I travel alot so I go through many periods where my car sits for multiple days to a few weeks. The Yellow top served me well, but it sounds to me like you need a redtop.

Some guys tested the Optimas, and the in SPL tests, the Blue top came in with the highest numbers, the Red top the lowest. It seems odd, that the cranking battery would come in the lowest, but thats what the numbers said. Also, the Blue and Yellow tops are identical, except for an additional grounding strap internally. For car audio, I would go with a Yellow top, if you plan to play the stereo at all with the car off.
