I looked all over for a thread I found once and now I cannot find it????

I have a manual tranny 2006 xB with about 35,500 miles and am wondering should I be changing the tranny fluid the next time I do the oil (about 2000 miles from now).

1) Am I changing the fluid too soon?
2) I have heard Amsoil is good as well as Redline-(opinions wanted from ACTUAL users please)
3) How hard is it to change the tranny fluid? Do I need one of those funnels with the long neck to do it without a mess?

On a side note-synthetic vs regular name brand conventional motor oil?

Change it. Use Redline. It's easy.

Search Redline Transmission and there's a howto for XA/XB first gen.

I just changed the tranny oil in my 06.5 xB in August at 35+ k miles.

The actual change is very easy. Tracking down the sockets and a good price on the Redline is a little harder. You need a 15/16th deep socket (or 24mm) to remove the switch. Be sure and look up how to remove the wiring.

I don't remember what size the drain socket required, but I didn't have one and had to go track one down.

I used Redline MT-90. 2qts.

The shifting feels smoother.
