Hey all,

although this is only a prototype... just wanted to get some opinion on it. TRF will be modifying it abit more to enhance the look... but just wanted to get some feed backs and see if any of you tC owners might be willing to buy these if they were mass produced.

I'm not sure of the cost...but TRF have informed me that it will be in the area of $275 to $300.

The lip will be easy install with no drilling required and it has a cutout around the 3rd brake light...and actually looks factory.

It's still a prototype and will be available shortly after final modification and design. TRF will soon offer it early next year... prob late January or early February.

i'll take some profile shot of my car soon..so u can see how well it sits with the tC. The wing definitely makes the tC look sportier and longer... it's really classy IMO.

i personally agree. I've seen many with "pedestal type" spoiler on the tC ... and it does not conform with the bodyline of the tC. Hence, IMO ... lip style spoiler looks best on the tC. The main reason a lip style spoiler conforms better is the fact that tC is really a hatchback with elongated rear hatch window and shortened trunk. Therefore, the lip spoiler will complement the rear of the tC better than a "lifted" pedestal type spoiler which tends to cut the bodyline and seem out of place.

The spoiler looks awesome in person. It's hard to tell by just looking at the picture.

Everyone has their own personal preferences. This spoiler looks sporty and compliments the lines of the car - it's not too ricey.

Some people like the "shopping cart"..rice boy look...but again to each his own.

since it's a lip spoiler...and there is almost 85% surface touching the trunk line... industrial strength 3M double-sided tape are furnished for easy application. I've already took the car in the triple digit and there is no sign of lift on the wing. Not to mention.. u'll probably will have extreme difficulty detaching the wing if u try once it's installed - that's how sturdy it is.

As for the price..that's based on "non-painted" wing...but ready to paint surface.

TRF have mentioned something about selling "factory painted wings" at additional cost.

As for the tint... the rear hatch is 5% limo tint and the sides are 15%.

As I have stated earlier... it's just a prototype. The design isn't finish...TRF will reshape the spoiler abit so it will be perfect. I just wanted to see how people felt about it in general and if production should be enforced. I personally like it alot...although have mentioned few minor redesign suggestions to make it a great seller.

I will take more pix and post them here later. There is no rubbing or touching of any kind (even if you tried slamming ur hatch). The trunk opens perfectly fine and looks pretty good with the rear hatch open.

yeah... I was skeptical at first. But after a week of driving on it...and even attempting to pry it off, it won't budge. These are not your conventional double sided tape...it's industrial 3M tape. There is alot of surface area that contours the spoiler..so it's really sturdy. I like the fact that it's double sided tape..so u can take it off without damaging your trunk...not to mention, you don't have to drill holes.

i doubt it. TRF has had many lip spoiler and even pedestal spoilers on his mercedes, Lexus and other for few years with these double sided tape. After hundreds of washes and torment in hot/cold weather... the spoilers are sturdy just like Day 1.

As I mentioned..there is alot of trunk surface facing the lip spoiler..so the tape will stretch all the way across in multiple lines... securing any possibility of coming off.

And besides...the spoiler is not that heavy to begin with. It will be fiber-glass ...durable and light.

If the tape is so strong, wouldn't it lift the paint as well if you ever have to remove it? I'm thinking this should be tested. Other then that, I think it looks good. I would rather have it end shorter though so it doesn't stick out that far.

well..we'll find out soon, cuz i'll be taking the prototype off later this week in order to finish up the design. We did take the spoiler off once before...with much effort we did peel it off and there were no damage watsoever to the paint of the car.

The reason we "wrapped" the edges around the rear quarter panel and along the lines of the tail light was to give it a smoother design. If we decided to keep it short and stop at the edge of the trunk...it would have looked "chopped off" at the edge or something similar to "civic stock spoiler"

TRF designs bodykits ... and they want to make trademark designs that is best suited for the car. I am pretty confident that many will like the finish product once it's done. The edges will be less curved and more angled along the bodyline. It will be one nice looking lip spoiler. I'm a big fan of lip spoilers...especially on the tC. This spoiler is much appreciated in person...

i second that... pedestal seems abit off from the tC rear bodyline...IMO.

That spoiler makes me want to buy a tC. The side of the spoiler needs to be cut off IMO. I do agree lip spoilers will do the tC justice.

Im not a big fan of the TCs stubby tail end.. that khamaari (spelling?) spoiler is nice. I like the lip spoiler because it seems to complete the tc a bit. New spoilers are always a welcome addition, thats for sure. Id say that spoiler (up above) is nice but it hangs too far off the rear .. or maybe the pic i saw wasnt too great. I duno :?

After the final redesign is done... hopefully by late next week... TRF will start taking orders for the spoiler. I believe there will be a special introductory price for first 10 buyers and SE members.

Final production spoiler pictures will be posted once it's done.

I was told that final product should be ready by mid to late January. So start saving up for those interested in the spoiler...the spoiler makes the tC alot more "complete" IMO.

Hotness... that should cut down on any installation costs other than painting. Very nice. Can't wait to see the final production pictures.

TRF will offer them unpainted initially. However, TIM @ TRF have mentioned that he might offer the spoiler factory painted matched at additional cost.

The unpainted spoiler will retail between $275 and $300. As mentioned before, the first 10 buyers will get special introductory discount.

The spoiler kind of looks like the one for the Solara. Pretty good though, but will it be available as a bolt-on? The idea of tape failing in extreme hot or extreme cold bugs me.

i cant really judge it until we get more pics from more angles.

I know a lot of you were worry about the way this spoiler use double stick tape to mount. I have all my spoilers mounted using double stick tape on my personal cars. The industrial grade 3M tapes that most body shop uses are the same grade that car manufactures use on the molding and badges. You know how hard it is just to remove your badge and think about this whole spoiler is stilling on the tape. Good thing about this tape is that it will not damage your paint even though it is that strong. If you want extra security and don't mind to drill on your car, you can use self tap screws to go from inside of the trunk to the spoiler and that will hold the spoiler in place.

The way this spoiler designed is to increase your down force, which means the wind will push the spoiler down against your car, and there are no opening or gap in between so there is no lifting force to lift the spoiler up.

I will be doing more tests and fast driving and see how the spoiler holds. :D

You have to see the spoiler in person to appreciate the design and flow. I will take more pix from the profile angle. But keep in mind that this is only a prototype..the final product will look even better and sleeker.

He has to figure out the cost of painting it...along with factory paint usage. Tim will want to make sure the color matches to factory.

The lip spoiler is phenominal! Very sexy how the spoiler hugs the body very tight.
How much does the spoiler weight? Can't image being no more the 7-8pds. Only problem I see right now would be rubbing. With the vibration of the panel against the wing, I'd be afraid of the paint rubbing, eventually leading to the paints deteorating. Any problem foreseen in that yet?

I would definitely be interested to see what it would look like on a much darker color. But this would be a 'for-sure' thing! Form, function and style...what could you ask for!

Btw: I couldn't help but notice that you had black plates? ...is that legal in Ca.? I had my plate done like that on my mini-truck last year...but it was a no no...got a warning...so I took it off :?

Your car is coming together quite nicely! I've liked alot of the add-ons, they're very tasteful and they compliment the car very stylishly! Automotive coutour at its finest! LOL :D

thx Kaeon... it's nice to hear a compliment coming from the bodykit master himself. btw... i would love to rock ur bodykit sooner or later... love the way the foglights can be integrated.

in any event, the spoiler will be initially available as fiber glass then eventually a carbon fiber.

The one I have is actually carbon fiber under the paint... it's pretty light... i would say about 6 lbs. But we added some bondo for designing purpose...it might even weigh less.

The wing was designed to "hug" the contour of the tC along the tail lights. There is absolutely no rubbing at all. There is about 1 to 2 " gap between the rear quarter and the wing. I have driven nearly 500 miles with the wing and it's perfectly fine.

The black plates was put on for a special shoot I did for the car... and yes it's illegal to drive on public road with such plates.

this spoiler looks pretty sleek from the pictures shown. Nice product.

No WORRY about the spoiler touch the quarter panel
It look like the wing is sitting on the panel but NOPE!
It is almost 1 inch off the panel so there is no way the spiler hitting the panel =)

well, after staring and staring at it, i really want one

sign me up for it as soon as it's done, pre-painted would rock - I'd say paint as they're ordered if you can get it done quickly, wouldn't be fun to paint 15 of them azure pearl and sell one.... but I sure would love to just be able to slap that baby on my car rather than have to find somebody to paint it, take it to them, worry about a job well done etc

yeah..the spoiler will be fine tuned starting next week. Then it will go into production early January... and hopefully the first batch of the final product will be available around late January.

The final product will look even better cuz i have suggested some minor redesign request on the wing's end and slong the trunk line... it makes the tC look very classy...

i'm in OC... but the wing will be taken off end of this week for final prep and minor modifcation. I suggest you take a look at the "final product" once it's released..this will be the best one measure up against. The one I have on my car is a prototype and is not perfect. We put it on for a special project that we worked on during this past weekend.

I think it looks OK, but after you get it painted you're looking at a higher cost than a factory lip spoiler that is dealer installed with a guaranteed paint match. And personally I think it sticks out on the sides too much.

I wouldn't exactly compare the tC to a BMW either. You'd be comparing apples and oranges...

Realize that the european market, is high dollar as it is! Especially considering alot of there parts come from overseas.

IMO prices will eventually taper off given some time, soon like other import tuners, there will be an abundance of companies offering a variety of parts. The aftermarket industry is trying to profit on the tC, as much as possible now while its HAWT! I figures its all about supply and demand...

Be patience...

Looking very cool, stylish and sophisticated which would be one of only a few body kits/parts that a good number of people would invest in. I suspect the company has a winner on there hands and would be successful if put into production. Options, I would be more inclined to buy one that is already painted to factory color codes.

I would be interested in top views, front to rear high shots to see the top of the wing across the rear of the hatch.

Still love those rims, the best combination I have seen.

no new pix yet... the endless rain have delayed the whole process. I'm trying to work with Tim on the final prep for the spoiler mold. The final prep should take only a day or two... then it'll be sent off to manufacturing. The production will take about 2 weeks... then it will be painted and fitted again. If all is good... the spoiler will be available in February.

Not diggin the spoiler too much, but it's nicer than other spoilers I've seen out there. I am REALLY liking your rims though. They look like sex on the white tC.

my car is curently hitting hardenough to flex the rear panels above the back tire so if any one is hitting that hard and has this spoiler does it vibrate? 140db roughly

i hate to say it but i actually like that wing. and i hate wings.

defenently a nice wing... would like to see some other shots at different angles.. especially profile.. the tC has a very nice flowing line... i looked at a factory wing.. not the small lip wing... but the large one and it just threw the flow of the body off... from the shots here.. it looks like this may flow right with the car..

yea i thought they were gonna do somethin about the weird "wrap around" sides that spill over the edges of the car.. if they weren't so big and noticeable it might look a lot better.

I think its just the way the light hit the spoiler in the photo. I'm sure the folks that paints the prototype did a good job color coding the spoiler to match the factory paint.

Ugh, I want this spoiler badly! In my opinion, hands down the best looking one on the market...well when it actually becomes out on the market. I wonder if they'll do a CF version so I could throw it on the CF hatch that I want.

I've emailed Tim a number of times regarding the release date but got no response. I finally emailed Alex who said that 'production on the spoiler has been postponed due to unforseen production problems' and that he has no idea when it will be released. Sounds to me like it will be a pretty long wait if it comes out at all. Hopefully another company will come out with something similar as I really like the design.

I hear ya~ how do u think I feel with a prototype wing on my car that's not perfect and even off color. I really want the spoiler to be finished and produced promptly...

I came up with the intial design of the wing and was excited to see it prototyped... but Tim encountered some production problem with his manufacturer. So i'm in the dark as well far as production goes...

Hopefully Tim reads this soon enough to realize what he has to do... either find another manufacturer to work with or sell the design to another company. But I want my royalty for the design of the wing...

Not sure on the copyright yet...prob Tim has something up his sleeve. But all I know is that I helped design it and Tim better act soon.

And yes, we all know that it's a goldmine... just matter of putting finishing touch on it and producing it. TIM!!! Wake up!!!!

I'm not taking any of my copyright law classes till next semester, but I'm not even sure you can really "copyright" something like that...

Spoilers are imitations of each other all the time, so slight differences may be all it takes to set one apart from the other legally.

Someone could produce one that was a little different (say, i dunno, that fit the sides a little better) and it could probably be made with no legal ramifications.

Don't quote me on any of that, I'm not in lawschool yet.

Alex, if he can't produce them, I'd find someone who can, before you lose your share of the deal.

So any luck finding another manufacturer or having your current manufacturer fix the problem?

If you (TRF) could maybe have your manufacturer discuss the problem with you, I'm sure there are a few materials engineers on this website who could brainstorm some solutions. I have some experience with injection molding, carbon fiber, fiberglass, and polyurethane parts and I know there are a lot of guys here who work with body kits and stuff all day long who might be able to help.

Just an idea. We just want to see the spoiler done in big quantities and ready to go....

There is a difference in what your doing and what a sponsered person should be doing. The TRF is what people want or something very close to it, until then please stop getting people's hopes up. I have been waiting since the very first time it was posted about the TRF spoiler coming out. I am going to keep waiting please only show us taek instead of tell us.

Don't worry Taek....They will soon know....and maybe they will thank you for your positive outlook in the months to come. And then everyone will understand the amount of work involved in this process. Thats all that can be said about this "TRF spoiler" ....So in my eyes this thread closed the moment it came out, and thats that, TRF let many people down so far (some call it flaking out). I hope we can change this and show people what company has a serious drive for the tc community and scion for that manner.

Somebody just needs to hurry up and come out with something similiar to the TRF spoiler. I'm tired of the waiting and the excuses.

if someone made something like that they would BANK. I would pay up to 250 for a wind like that but only if it looked like that. TRF had such a huge opportunity to make money but so far they have done nothing.

That's the problem, I could be off with this, but my impression is that these guys were just a few friends that were going to start a side business but didn't really have the time or effort to put into it, so it never got off the ground. Too bad because it's a great design. I know Viniati was trying to aquire the rights to produce it, but I think the hold up is a disagreement between the three people involved in it's design. They would ofcourse want either a license fee for him to produce it, but who gets the money and how much? It's a real shame, if it were to go into manufacture, I'm sure that it would get between 50-75 people right off the bat with money in hand as a pre-order, including myself. Hopefully Viniati works something out with them because I want it now!!!
