View Full Version : Testing the waters: Badgeless garnish/paintable eyelids?

FLEA

Just curious to see who would be willing to buy a badgeless garnish from a fellow SL member. I have been going back and forth about this for about 2 months now. Just curious to see who would really want one.

I know some people have had bad experiences with other vendors and many people would be very hesitant to purchase or yet alone trust another SL member that does these, but just reply if you would or would not want one. Once again, this is just a general question, not a group buy or anything.

Lastly, no flaming other individuals....PLEASE!

Also, same situation but with the paintable eyelids. I get at least 4 PM's each day asking where I get them, can I paint them, etc. Who would like to see these for sale?

i would love to purchase one from you, i just have one piece of advice:

don't do core-exchanges if you don't have the backup cash to sort things out, or an existing collection of garnishes.

and do a few on your own and figure out a turn around time please

PM me as soon as you decide to go ahead with this, i'm definitely down.

please have some sample images!

i would love to list 'Badgeless Garnish by FLEA' in my Body Mods :P

how much would u sell em for? been wanting one...

FLEA
10-16-2008, 05:12 AM
Core exchanges would definitely not be an option. I don't want to get one that someone tried to fill and paint only to have to spend, more time trying to fix someone else's mistakes.

Also be aware that the cost of these is not cheap. If I can find garnishes in junkyards, I'll pick them up (as long as there is no cracks, clips missing, etc.).

optional
10-16-2008, 05:14 AM
yeah i've heard anywhere from 70-100 for the going rate on the pieces.

if we bought a full new badgeless from you, would you purchase our badged one from us? or could we mail ours in to have the work done? etc..

FLEA
10-16-2008, 05:19 AM
If everything goes as planned, $200-$215 (minimum). Once you factor in how much these cost, paint, clear coat, etc. Plus cost of shipping, I'm only making $25-$30 profit.

I know a lot of people will say, "I can get it done cheaper at a bodyshop". Well then by all means, go to a bodyshop (you're not hurting my feelings). But I'll tell you this right now. Yesterday was my day off and I went to 6 different bodyshops throught Orange. The price just to paint the garnish FM ranged from $115-$145. That was just to get it painted, the garnish is already filled in with no high/low spots.

Milano
10-16-2008, 05:20 AM
would consider it. i think i've met you before at an oc meet. just name a price and the way it would work with the garnish we have now.

FLEA
10-16-2008, 05:24 AM
^ I would prefer not sending your stuff into me...unless you already happen to have a spare one available. Same rule I have with tinting tails. Unless you have another set, please don't send them to me.

Also keep in mind the delivery time to arrive out here and the time that it would take to ship back.

The whole point behind this thread is to see who would really want one. Out of respect to the other vendor, I know some people are not happy with their garnish transaction, but are very hesitant to put more money down for another attempt.

Sample images will come tomorrow. I'm in the paint booth immediately after work tomorrow. While I'm waiting for the clear coat to cure, I'll be working on Teecizzle's garnish.

Furthermore, after Scion Nights (10/23), I will more than likely post a DIY on the forums on how to do a badgeless garnish (here, Scion Axis, Yoursciontc, So. Cal TC Club, etc.).

FLEA

Your cluster is a little glossy on the inside, some light might bounce around in there, but it's not a mirror like finish on the inside.

Now the outside is glossy as hell, just like the BSP door handle above.

The bulge on the 08 headlights does not effect the position of the eyelid.

Yes, that is a good thing. Both make quality products themselves. Engifineer does great LED gauge swap work and Doctor Isotope makes short shifters, shift knobs, and radiator cooling plates. I have done business with both and highly recommend them to anyone.

id be interested in a badge-less garnish...but the price other people have been asking are a bit high...i realize its a lot of work but to be asking like 150$ is a bit much for a little bit of decoration piece. so maybe if the price is right for me...i just might :)

I won't be going through with the eyelids/badgeless garnishes. Too many people want me to do them for next to nothing and everyone doesn't trust anyone after the whole "iKONA" thing. Really unfortunate, seeing as how I liked doing them and the painting. Picking up a couple bucks on the side was just a plus. I was also told by one "new" member that "you shouldn't do it, no one wants them and there's not enough interest in them."

Going through this thread, I was wondering how you were going to 'keep your head above water' for a price
next to nothing! People expect quality for cheap. (Get a clue you cheapskates!!) That's too bad because
I was really interested in the door handles (have an extra set) and eyelids in SSM. It does not surprise
though here on SL the comments about being too expensive. These are probably the same people
who want a retrofit done for $200.

Some of you folks 'slept' on a guy who does QUALITY work! This guy was willing to sacrifice his time
and energy for a little extra cash and now you have blown it for everybody. /rant.
Thanks for trying FLEA and GL on future endeavors.

FLEA
10-22-2008, 06:53 AM
^Don't worry about it, thanks anyways! In a way, I would like to do it for cheap, but the cost of paint and supplies alone cost half that price ($215). There have been many times where I put myself in the customer's shoes that has a budget and I think "I hope he can set me up with a good deal"....unfortunately for me I agree to it and do the job for nothing or next to nothing, 8 out of 10 times the money for shipping, paint, clear coat, rubbing compound, etc. comes out of my pocket. I have done more than enough "free" jobs for people. I'm trying to start a business and I can't fund it by continuously doing more free jobs.

This wasn't directed towards anyone, but just an explanation of the price, etc.

FLEA, YOUR AN IDIOT IF YOU BACK OUT ON THIS.

Your work is amazing and over time you will have plenty of business. Dont let a few morons talk you out of this. Just do one or two here or there, it cant hurt you. You have your head on straight with this and will do fine.

There are people willing to pay for quality. You might not get hundreds of order like someone else SUPPOSEDLY did. But the ones you do will be quality and the purchaser will be happy.
Keep your price at what you want it, and let those that want quality come to you.

(and if you want, I will contact Tom and have him IP search the individual in question to see if its a former member or not. PM me if need be.)

Yes. It is not off of your car, correct? I would need some pics of your car in direct sunlight so I can see the paint in more detail. FM has about 7-10 different variations, so I have to rely on photographs, not like I can say "send me a chip of paint off your car...or send me your gas lid."

FLEA, you have to consider that you are one of the high end painters so people will think that paint is just paint and not want to pay. Sucks for them. If someone is willing to pay the price for quality then do the work to high standards and keep going. I would rather pay the price for something done right the first time then to do it cheaply and have to do it again.

So this morning it was brought to my attention by a SL member that there is a thread about me in the "Buyer/Seller Experiences" section. To read what people are saying follow this link: http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=240882

Personally, any and all feedback is welcome.

Kennon came by this morning to install my new eyelids and badgeless rear garnish in NBM. It looks incredible and Kennon is constantly updating you on the status and just checking in.

Here are some pictures:

There is a guy selling an already primered badgeless garnish on here somewhere. I was planning on picking that up. Think it's going for $120.

As for the "determined" look. I was really trying to focus and make sure I got clear coat in all of the crevices. Also I was checking to make sure there were no drips or runs.

Just finished my garnish lastnight. Hoping to install it tonight. Want to do it now but I'm about to head off to work. All I need now is a badgeless OEM top grille or the VRD's.

One time only. Next person to get a badgeless garnish will be for $125 plus shipping...or VRD grilles (top and bottom) for a badgeless garnish. I'll pay for the paint out of my pocket.

Flea!!! I will do the badgless garnish if I am next... that is for the $125 price. Plus I want to get my headlight shrouds done as well as my sidemarkers...

question: Could you possibly do a BSP tint. i.e. tint the side markers to where it looks bsp but still lights up??? Let me know because I want to send this stuff out asap!

Oh and I have VRD's too if you want them. The top is panted This black metallic color and the bottom is the titanium (didn't install the bottom). I could send you those and pay money for the badgless garnish... I just don't want to screw you over man and don't want you to have to pay out of pocket like that... shows dedication though I will admit that!
