1. - to keep an engine swap legal the motor that you are installing must come from the same year or newer as the chassis that you are putting it into. ex.- if you have an 05 xb youd need an 05 motor. Good luck finding one cheap.
2. Motors like the 2ZZ that comes from the 03-05 Celica are DBW (Drive by wire- no throttle cable). You could retro fit the 00-02 intake manifold and throttle body onto the head but youd have to make a throttle cable or figure out how to make a stock one work.
3. There are so many other things you have to worry about in a swap. Axles, mounts, hydro clutch lines, clutch slave cylinder, harnesses, ECM wiring, interior electronics wiring. The list goes on and on. Good luck in your endeavors.

4. Search. Ive explained this question at least 3 times to other xB owners who have asked it.

Id reccomend that you go forced induction on the current motor. Get internals and research a way to lower compression by either having custom made low compression pistons or a thicker head gasket. 10 lbs on an xB would be a pretty spirited little car.

have a nice day. :)

Brianxb- Out of curiosity, is that the law(replacing motors from same year or newer) in VA and MD, or countrywide?

Also, has anyone done a swap yet? Sounds like a nightmare-financially, and time.

I was looking at the 3sgte till I realized how much it would be. Joe has done some swaps, but honestly jack, you should go to tuners edge or millenium autosports. thats the only way that you would get it done. there is a ton of custom work to be done.

I doubt its country wide buts its commonplace among states that have emissions testing like VA and MD. Some states have NO EMISSIONS LAWS! Imagine the rice that dwells there...

Nah, they probably have more rusty pickups and hoopty Corvairs than rice.... at least, I wouldn't move to a state based solely on the ability to "rice my ride" (2005 Copyright MTV).

I don't have to get tested, what are you talking about

At NOPI 04 I spoke to a person that worked for toyota and started a Lexus shop,he said that the block in the scion has the same bellhousing as the Celica,Soooo, you could use the trans in the xb,bolt a celi GT motor to it,gts would have the intake and exhaust on the wrong sides, could be done but would require alot of work,Sooo back to the gt,it has 4 mounts in the celica, the xb only has 3?so if you use the xb trans 2 are covered, the passengerside head mount is close, someone with cad design exp would knowwhat to do,then fab a bracket between frame rails in fron for the 4th mount and all that is left is wiring and cooling ect.I have had the two cars beside eachother and compared,it can be done. I feel that since the cars are so new, still under warrenty that it is keeping some people from doing this swap, but soon it will be done buy someone.

As for the same year swap, not all states have safty and emissions laws,Im in Fl and we dont,so it doesnt matter.

yea the biggest part of that would be fabbing new mounts

yeah i bet that ____ty lil fdup gear ration having pos tranny will last a long time with the extra ponies. not think about it all that power yet no more speed? hmm whatever. well a lil more speed but still. geez. i unno what do you think joe? i'd try and upgrade tranny's too. or for god's sake at least put a stage 3 clutch kit in there. hell the clutch's slip with only like 10 more hp.

I would imagine that a gts 6 spd would bolt up to a gt motor, maybe be close in the mounting points,As for the stock tranny having enough to hold up,who knows?I dont plan on doing tire shredding burnouts all the time, would still be nice to just have the extra excell power.

I would love to have a 6 speed. I am currently putting a turbo on my xB. Is this of intrest to anyone? Should I just start a thread with pics as I do it? If anyone would appreciate that let me know.

the 6spd is bigger so it isnt a bolt in.

The bolt on is a myth....much like big foot.......you have heard tales of such a thing, but it never happens to you, lol

Tire shredding burnouts would be fine with the stock trans. Once the clutch is dumped, traction is broke, and everthing is spinning, there is very little wear on the trans. The wear comes when you are able to get traction and the tires AREN'T spinning. Once that happens- poor little tranny probably ain't gonna live real long.

6sp is 2.5" more frame cutting

If you insist on doing the motor swap the above is the way to go. Any comptent welder can fab you up some mounts easily. That hard part is the wiring. You will need the factory service manuals from both the celica and the scion. From there you need to interface the celica engine computer to the xb trans and gauge cluster. Having both the xb and celica harness would be the easiest way as you could just merge the two together.

As far as the intake and exhaust being different I don't see that as a big deal. You could go with a cold air intake kit and have a custom exhaust made. If it is like the tc the exhuast is on the side closest to the hood. Thats backwards in my book from the start. Why do you want hot air from the exhaust passing over the engine? Having the exhaust come out the other side should be easier.

maybe someone will make something for the wiring harness

maybe. we can only hope. it will be kick ___ when/if they do. same with asemi-bolt on mount kit for the 1zz.

What do you mean maybe? http://www.scionlife.com/forums/images/smiles/icon_lol.gif I sold mine along with the engine mounts. It only takes about four days to make one yourself.

only lol. then make one and sell it to me. you will be my god
