one problem with this poll is that most of the people here only have one set of upgraded springs, so they cannot provide good feedback on anything other than pictures posted on the internet of cars with the various springs and vote on their preference.

Is this what you're going for?

If so, might as well do the research yourself and decide which ones you like better by looks and user reviews.

they lower your center of gravity so you get better handling and the make the car look 100X better

Kaeon
01-13-2005, 02:15 PM
they lower your center of gravity so you get better handling and the make the car look 100X better

They also stiffen the ride of your car, inproving cornering, etc.

yesti
01-13-2005, 05:44 PM
downside is they make the ride a little harsher. but if the springs are 'progressive rate' then they get stiffer the more they are compressed for a nice trade off in ride quality versus handling. TRD and eibach prokit are progressive, not sure about the other brands. just thought i'd give iwantascion both side to the story.

01-14-2005, 06:50 AM
If I decide to get 18's added and lower the car 1" all around, would the tires wear any faster? I think my white tC looks great now, but some of the pics of lowered rides on this site look really good! I don't want to slam it, but just make it look a little more streamlined than it already is.

yesti
01-14-2005, 07:05 AM
if you go an inch or so the camber shouldn't be affected enough to cause uneven wear on the tires but you should maintain your tire pressures regularly.

Did you guys with the Tein S Techs a Camber Kit? Is it neccessary to get a Camber Kit?

whyte_AZN
01-20-2005, 03:37 PM
yeah i was wondering the same thing. do u guys w/ the tein stech have camber kits?

BigKid
01-20-2005, 11:20 PM
There is a camber kit that will be out, if not already(I haven't been brought up to date on its release...) from Hotchkis. Its for the rear, I was tempted at first to purchase it when available. But I've reconsidered since then.

The camber isn't as aggressive at everyone thinks(IMO), but some may see it differently. With that said, I may just wait. I'm rollin 19's and I haven't discovered any problems yet...but again its still really early. Hell if anything I think the contact with the tire and the tarmack is improved, more rubber adds to better handling as well.

As long as you correct the front alignment I think it should suffice.

Plus it just give the tC a much more steathier look.

Dont get me wrong, all of the cars in this post look awesome. I just dont think the TRD drop is aggressive enough. There seems to be too much space still b/w the top of the tire and bottom of the well. The Tein springs look nice. I forget, were there any Goldline springs posted? If not, does anyone have a pic with the goldlines?

Um that would be a no. Make sure you bolted everything back in place. While your at it, I'd check the back too. Or it might be that your springs aren't seated properly.

That or I'd start by looking to see if your strut assembly is torqued down properly.

When you say the Ride is great, is it pretty much like stock. The only concern i have is that the ride might be really rough with the stock struts. oh yah did you leave your stock struts on with the S-Techs??? :lalala:

Ok, all my cars have been lowered, i just traded my xb (goldlines) for a tc, im loving the stock ride of the tc (compared to the xb its like a neon to a lexus) but cornering isn't as great as I'd like it to be. The box rode better on the goldlines but still bounced around. So I'm concidering s-techs after sifting through this post. How much stiffer are they over stocks (because im lovin the soft ride)? Anyone getting camber kits?

Here's my tC with H&Rs. Ride is amazing, progressive rate springs with a stiffer spring rate than TRD. Also has enough clearance to comfortably add 18x8s (installing next week).

BTW - I sell almost every suspension listed on this thread. Feel free to email for quotes and deals.

I know so far noone has said that you needed a camber kit to ride the S-techs. But I was wondering if there is a camber bolt available to adjust without having to get the whole kit. My friend told me that they might have this available so you can adjust camber 1degree without having to get a whole kit. :ponder:

On a side note. I was under the impression that adding after market parts will only void the warranty if the part actually causes the malfunction. i.e Tein springs added, blown strut means no warranty for strut but if your starter goes out our something else not related to suspension your warranty should still be good. Is this correct?

No, the way the suspension is set up up on the tc there is no way to make a camber adjustment with the factory parts.

correct, you only void warranty on the parts u mess with

question for everyone, all setups. do u have people riding in the back often, or baggage or whatever , and if so is there rubbing w/ ur setup. i had h&r on my civic and was in love w/ them, but my friend kept complaining about his his spinal cord when i hit bumps :-D my friend has trd on his celica and if 2 people sit in the back, he gets rubbing. any help on this would be great

I got my springs on sale from mcgeorgeparts.com (http://www.mcgeorgeparts) for $118.00 plus shipping. I rented spring compressors from Autozone for free. Then me and two guys from our Scion club spent 4 hours putting them on.

It only took an hour to put all four goldline springs on one of the guy's xA.

question for everyone, all setups. do u have ... ?
I frequently have 2-3 people riding in my car with me on the lovely roads here in New Orleans and have yet to have any problems with tires rubbing or bumpers scraping. Then again, I don't have that much of a drop. TRD Springs, Stock Shocks.

First off, all the cars look great but I've noticed one thing that is a pet peeve of mine. You should take 2 minutes, remove the screws from your license plates and remove those gaudy dealer plate frames. This would be the first of my list of things to do when I get my new cars home because I'm not a driving billboard. I also think stickers suck. Just my $.02... so take it if you want it because it is almost free. If you don't want it, just leave it on the sidewalk and someone else will grab it.

Kind Regards,

B

aarontrini85
01-26-2006, 07:53 PM
trd's are to high there also to soft i would get wheel hop with them and with the teins i dont

the ride quailty sucks with the teins compaired to trd's witch feel almost stock and are great perfomance wise with the little bit of ride quality you have to give up where as with the teins you sacrafice alot of ride quality for performance

i feel this was a good move to go with the teins but like when i sold my injen exhaust to do a custom 2.5" i dont feel it was worth the cash i lost selling the trd's to move to teins especialy since i sold my trd sway bar also

but im sure the hotchkis im ordering will be great :P

PrettyniceB
01-26-2006, 08:15 PM
the ride quailty sucks with the teins compaired to trd's I dont see why you would want to do something terrible to your car, but okay. Maybe after you get some struts it may ride better.

I'm all about having the car look good from the outside, but if it rides That much worse,........... then I'm i think you should go with the TRD's I'm researching, but wanted to add my barely knowable advice here. But that's for the description between the two

aarontrini85
01-26-2006, 08:21 PM
i like a harsh ride its just alot bumpier then trd's not horrible but no where near as soft as stock

also if you do i would suggest h techs if you want a soft ride still i just happen to like the car to be the stifist it can be for the least amount of cash

hmMmmMmm.. this thread makes me wonder. now im deciding on getting s techs or h techs. the pics are really nice but id like to see some up close ones to see the gaps (finger gaps if possible) of the s techs and htechs so i can compare them side by side. i'd also like to know, how far the bumper is from the ground with the s techs?

PrettyniceB
01-29-2006, 01:26 AM
^^^I don't really know much about gaps and springs. But I saw someone else's picture and they had four fingers in their wheel gaps.... I put my hand in my wheel well gaps and four fingers also fit, they had some new springs installed and then two fingers fit....

And the one of the first things I noticed when I saw the sports car That was my second choice after the Audi TT was the 350Z and that thing was so low to the ground. I was like what in the world. But I took that thing on a test drive and soon as I got off the lot. The bumpy freeway roads right outside the dealership; I was like, I would not want to ride in anything like this ever.... or constantly (cause the tourqe was nice) at least. I got this car to Ride In! (not to track in)

I think I could deal with KJ_ scion and the look of that drop if it still rides comfortable.
I only test drove a Z for ten minutes, but I would not want to go through all the miles I do in my car for no wheel gap if it means feeling like that for hours instead of minutes.

The Coil overs don't look good to me on those 17 stockers, but I know its just for the photo to be that low so never mind.

Can anyone let me ride with them on their springs (dumb question I know, I'm joking, but I would feel even dumber to spend over eight hundred bucks on 1.4 to 1.9 inches unless it was from doctor and surgically removed from another part of my body) :P

Fsu1dolfan you have the only car i have seen look good with thoughs wheels or that spoiler and grill congrats it looks great

You know i was just looking through some of the past comments and just saw that...wanted to say thanks

glad you went with the stechs too....i was thinking of those too but i got the sway bars and springs package in a good deal, so hotckis it is!!!

http://www.hotchkistuning.com/bin/images/products/80425-1lg.jpg

I really like the look of the Hotchkis Springs, and on RacingSolution.com I can pick up the Springs and Sway Bars for $468... its called the Hotchkis Stage 1 TVS System. Is that a good price for the complete package???

Specs:
Front Sway Bar: 24mm - 2 position adjustable
Rear Sway Bar: 27mm - 3 position adjustable
Front Drop: 43mm (1.7") 175 lbs/in (stock 150 lbs/in)
Rear Drop: 50mm (1.97") 285 lbs/in (stock 245 lbs/in)

Some info on how the car rides and handles would be great too. Thanks in advance!

If you really want it buy it from here
http://www.trdsparks.com/displayparts.php?Mdl_dtl=447&Part_cat=11&parts_id=643

This is where i got it and it was around $400 total after shipping which is a pretty good deal compared to what you found....and it was the cheapest i could find anywhere.

As for the ride it is beautiful..mind you i have yet to add the front sway because it is a pain in the A$$ to do yourself without a lift...but the rear and springs are amazing....i can take corners at 70+ without a problem(i have pirelli's that help keep me grounded too though) but the rear sway combined with my DC sports tower strut bar is great...i will eventually get that damn front sway on.....ride is pretty close to stock and all my passengers that i have had in my great say that it rides very nice....also i have the rear on the stiffest setting and WHEN i put the front on i will have it on the sofest...most have said this leads to an optimal results!

Hope that helps

hey thanks for all the help and info Fsu1dolfan!!! that price is so much better too, especially compared to what I was about to pay for them... thanks for the tip on the setup too, I was also wondering what positions to put them on but you answered that for me also... I am also glad that the ride is near the quality of the stockers and yet the performance is outstanding! When I get everything installed I will try to post pics asap! The only problem is getting the moola!

You GOTTA put the front sway in! My friend and I did it in my garage with a couple jack stands. Yeah, it was a tight squeez, a pain, and took a couple hours. But when I only had the back in, I could totally feel the front inside corner lifting and the body felt like it was twisting in turns. After I put the front in (middle setting, rear on tight) it is AWSOME! it just squats through the corners. I have the TRD springs, not the TVS set with Hotchicks springs :P but still, it's awsome!

lol TRD's arent too high, thier a perfect drop IMO. Fills up the wheel gap good. Some of the pics here might be the TRD's right after they're installed, they do settle a little lower after a couple of weeks.

Here some pics of mine on TRD's fully settled.

That first pic shows EXACTLY how I want my car to sit.

I've been stuck- the TRD was my sure choice, but every time I look they seem to leave just a little bit too much wheel gap. Then again, I didn't want to worry about sending my shocks to an early grave with the S-techs, though that drop did look good.

I think I'll go TRD, because 1. your picture showing them settled inspires me, 2. they'll be less taxing on the shocks, and 3. they look perfect when you go up to 18s.

Now just have to make some cash to buy them...

I'm not saying that the TRD springs are a bad idea (they are not) but why not go with the Hotchkis TVS Stage 1 kit??? With the kit you get The Hotchkis springs and sway bars... on TRD sparks the kit is $355. If you want more of a drop go with Hotchkis the drop in front is 1.7" instead of 1.25" and the rear 1.97" instead of 1.25"... With these springs I haven't heard of anyone having issues with rubbing on 18's and this will give you that lower look you are going for... Also definately consider getting some sway bars, huge improvement in handling!!! Try this kit if you are stuck on TRD springs... I went with the TRD springs living in Denver, CO cause I wanted the least amount of drop which is what TRD has. It surprised me to how much they settled a couple weeks after the install. I have no issues with potholes or deep curves which is what I was worried about in the denver area. Looking at the Hotchkis, they look really good also, especially with the 18's. Guess it kinda depends on where you live and your environment to choose what springs to go with. Ill see if I can take some more pictures today showing it off at different angles.

You jerk! (Kidding)

Now you've made me all unsure again, when I had just thought I had it sorted out. You didn't address the issue of the shocks, though... could someone run through the expected lifetime after lowering, if it's bad driving with blown shocks, everything I need to know?

*EDIT* forgot to mention, the hotchkis front bar sounds like it's an incredibly frustrating install that would best be done with a lift, which I don't have.

I do know that there are a few people on here that are just running the rear sway bar right now... they say it has added a huge improvement to handling, even without the front sway bar in... also it can be done without a lift, but yes it will be very frustrating!!! And take a long time to do as well... I don't know about the lifetime of the shocks, but if you are afraid to blow them out then get the TRD shocks, they should work out fine! The stock shocks should last you a while though since it is not as drastic of a drop as the Tein's... keep looking on trdsparks.com, they have a suspension set with those TRD shocks if you want them... I ask about the shocks mainly because I can't put up the cash for 'em any time in the near future, if I could I wouldn't have such a dilemma over the springs.

Well, I know some people who know some people... I could probably find my way onto a lift if I needed to. We shall see.

Kinda depends on how steep your driveway is. I've only scraped it barely one time when I was parking I went up too far on the curb. Didnt have any damage though. Only thing with TRD's is I go slower over speedbumps and try to dodge potholes more because you can feel them alot more than stock. So for regular driving I dont worry about it too much until I have to park somewhere with high curbs.

i used to have tein s-techs and those were 2.4 in the front and 2.0 in the rear...

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y144/sciongirl81/firstpicsevo131.jpg

now i have progress tech coilovers and they drop you 1.5 on install alone and then you can adjust the height anywhere from 1 to 3 inches lower. that's a total drop of 4.5 max!!

So i know people have probably thought about this before, with most or actually all of the drops, the wheels seems to kinda be uneven with the fenders..Would spacers increase rubbing or...

Like for example...alot of people were saying that jtrieus kaminari tC would look much better on 19"s and w/ spacers to push the wheels out more

What affect would this have on the handling, etc.

Looks great! Not too low, perfect stance.

PS- I'd go with wheels before wheel spacers.

ok guys where are some more pics with h techs im bebating on which kind of lowering springs to go with and well i live in pa where the roads suck now i dont like the trds cuz i think the back sits lower then the front and yet i think the s techs are too low for me especaily around where i live but i think the h techs will be alright can anyone show some pics of h techs and prices and where they bought, and some specs on them also maybe after reading all the threads the hotickis are still on my mind as a maybe too but i dont know what to get someone please help me thanx bye

htechs are about the same as trd anyway, but trd is close to even in the front and rear, while h-techs are lower in the front.

here are there stats...

TRD lowers 1.4 in the front and 1.3 in the rear with a spring rate of 173 in the front and 309 in the rear.

while H-techs lower 1.85 in the front and 1.46 in the rear with a spring rate of 180 in the front and 310 in the rear.

TRDs are just usually slightly more expensive.

i have a buddy who lives in ct with h-techs, but i can't find pics of his car anywhere. but i know that now he wishes he had gotten the s-techs instead. the ride with the roads is not bad with the s-techs. i had em and i live in jersey...you should see our roads! nothing compared to what i see when i travel back home with my bf to pa.

I'd go with h-techs,just use the search and you'll be able to find them(you can see pix everywhere) they're nicer than the TRD but not as nice as the s-techs ;)

i would say the same thing...if you are eliminating all thought of the s-techs definitely get the h-techs and don't waste your $$ on the trds, BUT s-techs are way better!! and the drop isn't too too worrysome.

for some reason people say the TRD's sit lower in the rear......and the front is higher, thier is a dignificant difference between
"TRD lowers 1.4 in the front and 1.3 in the rear with a spring rate of 173 in the front and 309 in the rear.

while H-techs lower 1.85 in the front and 1.46 in the rear with a spring rate of 180 in the front and 310 in the rear. "
that is almost 3/8 of an inch.........to some people that is a big difference.
