View Full Version : can the TRD shocks be used with stock springs? jackmott 01-19-2004, 04:52 PM ?? scionaraxb 01-19-2004, 05:03 PM yup..I think they are exactly the same stroke as stock. elzy0000 01-19-2004, 05:30 PM yeah they can... thats what im running right now... i think its also a better ride than stock scionaraxb 01-19-2004, 05:49 PM but if you go to the trouble of changing the strut, I'd put in better springs too. Munch 01-19-2004, 05:58 PM but if you go to the trouble of changing the strut, I'd put in better springs too. Some people don't want a drop, just a better feeling ride. jackmott 01-19-2004, 06:21 PM but if you go to the trouble of changing the strut, I'd put in better springs too. not legal in my racing class scionaraxb 01-19-2004, 06:37 PM why would you even want to "race" a Scion? There are much better performing cars to "race" with. Munch 01-19-2004, 06:43 PM why would you even want to "race" a Scion? There are much better performing cars to "race" with. You got that right. It's a cruiser, not a drag car. Scoobyslack 01-19-2004, 07:20 PM most likely he is talking about 'stock' class for SCCA autocrossing...legal to change the struts, but not the springs. :) Bicepeak 01-20-2004, 10:51 AM yeah they can... thats what im running right now... i think its also a better ride than stock How much better ride did you get? Do you mean it is smoother and less jouncy when you hit bumps or expansion joints on the frewway? I don't want to lower mine but would love to improve the ride. jackmott 01-21-2004, 05:04 PM why would you even want to "race" a Scion? There are much better performing cars to "race" with. You got that right. It's a cruiser, not a drag car. drag racing is boring in my z06 im sure it would be even worse in my scion xA Im not drag racing my scion, I am autocrossing it. There are classes in SOLO2 autocrossing specifically for low horsepower cars. I gaurantee I will have you grabbing the 'oh ____' handles as I enter each turn with some konis and a nice set of hoosiers even on a scion. hell, in my z06 I have made grown men puke. scionaraxb 01-21-2004, 05:09 PM hmmm.well I geuss thats cool. Have fun. jackmott 01-21-2004, 05:32 PM hmmm.well I geuss thats cool. Have fun. :) the z06 is fun to autocross, but expensive. set of race tire - $1,200 set of scion race tires - $400 theres just as much fun in lateral gs as forward ones =) Id get a miata if I fit :( Scoobyslack 01-21-2004, 08:52 PM [quote="jackmott"]Im not drag racing my scion, I am autocrossing it. I actually skipped a couple feet to the right yesterday at 75mph on the 580 leaving Oakland eastbound and returning later just about knocked my teeth out. I think the stock valving is a little on the stiff side to keep the tires in contact with a rough surface. ken jackmott 01-22-2004, 02:59 PM elzy000, Please explain the "better ride", I know it's subjective but I'm not happy with the stock shocks/struts on "choppy" freeways. No 1 setup is optimum for all possible roads =) You can get some adjustable koni shocks from spyeng.com and adjust them to suit the roads you drive on. |
