View Full Version : Dome lightbulb replacement: thread?
rallyxb 12-23-2004, 03:25 AM A while back someone posted a thread on how-to change
the domelight bulb to a larger size for more light.
I have searched and cannot find the thread.
Any ideas?

hotbox05 12-23-2004, 03:26 AM just pry the lil prongs that hold the bulb in. that or get the led bulbs from www.autolumination.com . we use the 31mm bulb . this site has bulbs of all sizes. so if u want u can bump it up a lil bit
timinaz 12-23-2004, 03:49 AM What about the current draw for a different bulb? I'd hate to set my xB on fire just to get more light...
hotbox05 12-23-2004, 04:13 AM it wont. it wont draw more current. there is only so much there. all it could do (which will be very minimal) will light up slightly less but with more leds it's still more light.

I see how that would work when swapping out for leds. I will have to order a replacement soon.
Thanks!

Let me get this straight... the LED replacement bulb is brighter than stock?
:?:
rogcjms 12-24-2004, 04:11 AM those LED ones look tight. im def. gonna get one.
hotbox05 12-24-2004, 04:19 AM yes the 4 led one is brighter than stock and he has quick shipping too.
WheelSee 12-26-2004, 05:36 PM well I just bought the dome light so I'll hopefully get it this week...anyone done the tail lights?

hotbox05 12-26-2004, 07:42 PM the regular led ones blow you need the "matrix" ones and those are bank so i stayed away. i just bought a set of red ones from him and i love em. theyre bright and red and that all that matters to me.
WheelSee 12-26-2004, 07:51 PM yea I know that but the LED would prolly still be better than stock am I right? I've seen Brocks but he had the HelixTail Lights....
~wC
hotbox05 12-26-2004, 07:58 PM nah the regular forward faving leds blow arse. i can send u mine for the price of shipping if you want. they dont reflect off the back. they work fine for nighttime use but blow for daytime.the cyrstalized lights kill the effectiveness of led
TheScionicMan 12-26-2004, 08:03 PM They also make a brighter halogen (i think) bulb that fits in the stock location.
WheelSee 12-26-2004, 08:08 PM hmmm so would getting the helix taillights make a difference if I went with the LED bulbs?
~wC
hotbox05 12-26-2004, 08:13 PM um yeah theyd be brighter. you'd still need the "matrix" bulbs for best results tho.
WheelSee 12-26-2004, 09:28 PM well yeah obviously...but I'm not ready to drop that much money...
~wC
hotbox05 12-26-2004, 09:29 PM well i'll give u mine for the price of shipping
WheelSee 12-26-2004, 09:33 PM ok lemme know what shipping is to 20009...

The bulb is a DE3175 - I picked mine up at WalMart - I'll check the packeage at home - it was a 2-pack...
rallyxb 12-27-2004, 10:39 PM The LED dome light is cool, but I was hoping for something brighter.
Do you think the Raybrig R104 Super bright Dome Light 10W would fit?

Davestoaster 12-27-2004, 11:43 PM I took the harder way out and fished some wires to the rear and added another factory dome light I bought from the dealer over the cargo area. Wasn't real hard to do, and it came out perfect. Actually it was so easy, I'm going to find a Toyota part for map lights for the rear view mirror in the front.
MotoMan_YZ400 12-28-2004, 12:19 AM I accually installed 2 small LED array (3 LEDs per array) in the back "trunk" area, and wired them to the mid dome light.... So that way they come on when the dome light is on..... looks nice! Illums the rear trunk, and still fades w/ the dome too! cost $10
WheelSee 12-30-2004, 11:32 PM grr instead of the white one they shipped me a red one :(

The LED's fade in & out?
Sweet!
WheelSee 12-30-2004, 11:45 PM yeah it fades just like the regular dome light does...

kixelsid 01-03-2005, 03:10 PM I got a Green replacement bulb for my camo green xB and it is brighter and it does fade out after u lock the doors like the stock light. The effect is nice and for $5 from ebay its the cheapest 'toy' i have added (also super easy to install - pop dome cover off, pull out old light, push in new one, replace cover).

Do you have pics of the install? I am mainly curious about the actual mounting of the light, not the wiring. How does it mount to the roof?
SWiSS 01-03-2005, 04:50 PM I confirmed by e-mail that the LED domelights are not as bright as stock, but they have a Xenon bulb that IS brighter than stock at www.autolumination.com . However, u dont get the cool colors

I have pic's.....just no place to store them anymore. But anyways, I made a "Plate" out of thick plastic sheet I bought at Home Depot. The plate was about 6" by 6" square. Then I laid the new dome light on top of that and traced a pattern of the dome light. The area that needed to be cut away to make the light sit flush with the headliner. I cut out the pattern with a sabre saw and drilled the 2 mounting holes. After you cut the hole in the headliner, (scary part) you just line everything up, screw it to the plate, and it holds tight. You still need to glue the plate in place on the inside of the headliner, cause I found that it still moves around even though it is screwed down tight. I used 2 part epoxy. The whole job a few hours, but it was really worth it.

Anyone know what the bulb size is?
:?:
xvolcomx88 01-05-2005, 02:46 AM i purchased the blue and super white led dome lights from www.autolumination.com. Neither are as bright as the stock one but the white one looks better cuz its much whitier than stock. Bulb size is 31mm.
hotbox05 01-05-2005, 04:31 AM i was told the blue leds will be brighter than stock. who cars brighter than trying to color or mask the stock bulb.
