I'll confess, I am a newbie! :? So I need some help! Will you help me find tires for the Enkei CDR9s I want to buy? I am looking for a 205/40/18 tire. I prefer the Pirelli P Zero Nero M+S.......I have those on my IS300 and love them. Anyway, any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. :D

The Enkei CDR9s I am getting are 18s.....according to a couple of the more experienced guys on the site......205/40s won't rub cornering or on bumps.

yeah that's true. just skinny tires is all. what kinda drop u gonna get?

I wouldn't run that small of tire. I run Goldlines on mine with those same rims and 215/35/18 Nitto's on mine. I've never rubbed at all. You'd run the risk of messing up your rims with potholes and curbs with that skinny of a tire.

umm ... yes and no. more risk of messin up the front or back face of the rim .about the same risk of pothole damage. only diff is traction , and ride. better traction wit 215/35 but better ride with 205/40 well probably better.

Am I looking at any rub with a 215/40? I am going with the Goldline drop. I want flush and a little more rubber than a 35 gives.

a 215/40 yes a 215/35 more than likely no.

i had 215/40/ on 18x7.5 rims on mine with the trd springs and had no rubbing

Why does such a small difference cause a rub? I mean, we are talking a very small amount of difference. I am sorry for the ignorance, I just want to understand.

The Enkei CDR9s are 18x7 That shouldn't rub if the 18x7.5s TOASt3R had didn't.

he also had a 1 inch drop. it also has to do with the offset of the wheels. r u planning a drop lower than 2 inch? and do you care if yer speedo is off? cuz a 215/40/18 will mess up the speedo.

I don't want any speedo variance. I am dropping the 2" with Goldlines. Let me ask it this way.....will 215/35/18s give me enough protect on smaller potholes and keep me from rubbing?

it doesnt throw it off much at all, at 60mph you will be going 2.1 mph faster

the tires were what the dealer put on when i got 18" rims from them

Doesn't that mess with the odometer a little bit too? Seems like 18s are too much of a hassle. Maybe I should go back to looking for 17s!

ya but to your advantage, you car has 3.5% less miles on it than it should show

thats what i'm doin but big rims are dope lookin for most people. and if only small potholes yes 18's with 215/35 should be fine anybig potholes could be bad tho .

What kind of speed variance do you have at 70mph?

What kind of speed variance do you have at 70mph?

2.45mph faster than speedometer

just add 3.5% to whatever speeed you are going for correct speed. 100mph 3.5mph faster than speedometer

Ok.....so let's get this straight.....I will be protected (with attentive driving) getting 215/35/18s and I will have no rubbing and no speed variance. Is that correct?

hotbox05
12-23-2004, 06:02 AM
yes. just becareful with any rim larger than 16. potholes can be hell but i've never had probs with the 17's on my supra , the 16's on my bimmer or the super thin 17's on my buddies integ then miata. it's all about attentive driving.

Yeah......I have 17s on my IS300. I have hot some mega potholes when visiting other cities and fortunately nothing has happened. I appreciate all the help guys. I think I will go with the 215/35/18s then, and it's my lucky day.......Pirelli makes the P Nero Zero M+S in that size!

M+S 18! lol Even better! I only want them so I don't have to use different tires in the winter. We don't get enough snow here to make a difference.

I'm running 215/35/18/8.5" and have no problems rubbing. In fact, I'd love to drop my xB even more with my Goldlines.

The how on earth would a 215/40/18x7 rub at all? I am getting even more confused!

hotbox05
12-23-2004, 06:26 AM
off set. that and they are decently wide.i mean stockers are 185/60/15's with what a 40mm offset. so u run a 32mm offset with 215 and a 2 inch drop with standard camber and rub city.

you mean bigger wheels means that your odo runs slower? correct me if I'm wrong.

EastTNScionxB
12-23-2004, 08:14 PM
Yes, I have been educated that it will run slower, but faster speeds on the speedo

I have 225/40/18 and get a slight bit of rub just before full lock. I think with anything smaller it would be ok. I have Enki RS6 18x7, offset of 38.

I just finished ordering 18" Axis TC Evo for my Polar White XB
the rims are dark charcoal and I am painting the
white lip to match the car.......... I also ordered H&R 1.5" Springs
I plan on using 215/40/18 - to give it better protection against potholes...

I think the drop and the tire size should flush out perfectly..........

I also have 18" Motegi's w/ 225/40/18 & 255/35/18 + Eibach pro-Kit
on my s2000 and it works fine...

damn people are runnin 225 tire setups? man that is just asking for rub. not a flame but hasn't anyone on here heard of rolling resistance. not only will that heavy rim tire combo slow you down but those super wide tires also slow you down. i mean they may yield a lil extra trac and cornering but man.
