No need to change your filter.

autos 2005-06 type IV (we flush every 30K)
autos 2007-09 WS No flush. check at 100,000 miles.

^^ Don't need to flush, just drain and refill. i did mine yesterday at home, its like an oil change, but easier because you don't have to deal with the filter. Word of advice, if you decide to DIY, make sure you have a 10mm Allen wrench, you're gonna need it for the drain plug. PM me if you need help, its seriously really easy

A trans flush is WAY better than an easy "drain and fill" in your garage.

You'll be mixing clean ATF with dirty ATF...doesn't make sense now does it?

I was going to have a tranny fluid change at 30,000 and the place I take it to actually talked me out of it saying that it didn't need to be changed until at least 75,000 miles.
I double checked and there is no mention of transmission fluid in the service manual log book.
I figure if even the dealership doesn't try to talk you into this (according to what's in the log book) then I won't be doing it.

But, heck, props to the unabashedly Christian service place I take it to for this very reason. You might be bashed over the head with Christian messages, but they won't rip you off.

see the thing with that.. when ur driving for say in southern Cali, that is NOT consider " under normal operating conditions" cause... theres ALOT of traffic so u stop n go, not only that when u start ur car n just drive it for 10mins(to work n back or w.e) or so n then leave it parked all day that takes its toll on the tranny fluid. soooo u SHOULD change it every 25-30k(for auto)

Is that the same size allen wrench for the xB? Went under my car yesterday to do the tranny fluid change and didn't realize it was an allen/hex. Is it 10mm for sure?

Thanks!!

Just finished my fluid change... Was surprised how as soon as the allen bolt was loosened it start dripping all over, and once the plug was out, gushed out like ole' faithful. Very thin and water-like, I was expecting more of an oil!

But it drained and then I measured it in a gallon jug with quart etchings I did... Came out right to 3.5 quarts (just as the official drain/fill specifies).

Torqued to 25-28ft/lbs with a new crush washer (did same as oil plug, haha) and refilled. All is well and was extremely easy (basically half an oil change without filter).

I have 17,600 miles on the xB now... Will do my next one at 50,000 or so. Just wanted to refresh the fluid Always a good thing!

Yeah it is, which is why I decided to do it, haha.

Was thinking about maybe installing performance brakes and rotors in the front... But I just keep telling myself I am just buying stuff I don't need!

But I do have a swaybar coming in soon... hehe

now keep in mind also. if you do a drain and fill on a auto trans, the bulk of your fluid will still be in the torque converter, mixing old and new fluid and wasting money.

a flush would be better. the car will actually be running and it will flush the torque converter , veins and valves also.

just my suggestion..

Yeah I know... Only 3.5 drains out of 8.6(?) I believe.

Nothing wrong with only exchanging half the fluid with fresh fluid. That is 41% of new fluid loaded with fresh additives and performance. It will never be as good as a flush, but it still does something.

Just look at oil changes for example, the people who have to add oil every 1,000 miles because they burn it. They can technically run their oil changes at longer intervals because the additives keep getting "refreshed". This is proven with various oil analysis testing. Why wouldn't this be the same with the tranny fluid? Your just refreshing!

It doesn't hurt so why not do it. You don't need a flush, actually, most companies discourage flushes. When talking to my dealer, they don't do flushes period, unless asked by the customer. They do drain/fill only, as specified by Toyota.

To each their own!

On a tC theres 4 quarts in total.. when draining, about 2 quarts drains out..

8.6 on a xb? iono about that. xb has the same engine as the tc but iono about the tranny but 8.6 sounds a bit much IMO
