So.. I took my car in to a muffler shop recently to correct one of the hanger that is on the exhaust. got my hanger on, still ratlles, but no problem... or so I thought

I went under the car yesterday to work on something and I found out that the IDIOT welded the new hanger directly on to the FRAME!

If I knew this dumbass was gonna do that, I'd never have let him do it. So according to AAA standards, now I have a vehicle with 'modified frame' which decreases about 25% of the value of the car.

He's going to hear from my lawyer about this...

Just talked to the rep at Bureau of Automotive Repair. The rep recommended me to submit a complaint through them so I just submitted a complaint form.

Hopefully I'll get a response soon

if you would have left your stock exhaust on this would have never happened....where did you want him to mount the hanger to? from the looks of your exhaust there isnt much someone could have done the way the hanger comes off of it. a little black paint on your frane and people wont even know it didnt come like that.

i wouldnt even waste time on a grinder....a little spray of undercoating and you will never see it...looks like he has lowering springs so its not like he will even be able to get under there and see it. i wish i could be at that exhaust shop when he goes in there and tells them he is gonna sue them cause they gave him a "modified frame" :loser:

the best part is that you live in california, which means, sooner or later your going to have to take that exhaust off anyway when you get a ticket!

Cali is not as bad as most people make it out to be... With several million people a few will get tickets for BS reasons...

If you don't drive around like a "Richard", or do blatantly illegal things such as limo tint your front door windows or put on a loud exhaust system, you can usually escape the watchful eye of Johnny Law.

Unfortunately we do have the highest number of laws restricting what modifications we can do, so things that are legal in most other states can get you ticketed, towed, or even impounded if you run into an officer that is having a bad day, or a jurisdiction that has it in for import tuners & modders.

i got a ticket for just having a "modified exhaust", wasn't loud, the cop didn't write me up for sound, he wrote me just becuz i had an angled muff. there was a car in front of me and i was driving normally... guess i was at the wrong place at the wrong time with an officer who had a bad day (it was at night)

but yeah, back to the topic, it still sucks that the car is not going to have the same value when he goes back to stock just becuz of one moron who didn't let you know what he was going to do under your car... :nails:

so let me get this straight. You had broke a hanger right? The factory ones are welded to the frame. What did you expect him to do? Not saying his welding techniques are the best though. I do not see how that is going to decrease the value of the car 25%. What do you think the dealer would have done for you? They would have welded a new mount on there I bet. You cant bolt them on if I remember right.

No, I guess I haven't explained throughly.

This is for an aftermarket catback that had poor fitment. If you look under your car, there is only 1 hanger for the axleback. This catback required 2 for some reason for the axleback section.

Since this catback was designed by this muffler shop, the guy (thought) he knew how to fix the rattle problem by adding another hanger.

All this time, I thought he just plainly bolted the additional hanger, but he ended up welding it up to the frame.

well by the look of things he had to weld a hngar on cause there was no where to bolt it up to in order to use the hangar already on the axleback, if he drilled a hole that would weaken it. what does the instructions say do when it comes to mounting up the other hangar, if he bolted it to the nearest bolt who is to say that would have fixed the problem. give him credit, many shops do it, cars are traded in and sold all the time with little things like this, and never does it hurt the value. next time you take a car to a shop to have it worked on, ask them fully what they will be doing rather then just dropping it off, thats why if a shop has to touch any of my stuff, i ensure that we are on the same wave lenghts.
