Default Holy Treadwear Batman! w/PIX*UPDATE

OK so as mentioned in an earlier thread post I am thinking i got the poop end of the stick when it comes to the tires that came with my xD. I am 4100 (four thous, one hund) miles into ownership and my tire treads on the front are damn near GONE.

I took it to the dealer last week, first thing the tech who came out to look at it said "wow", and then "wear looks even". Meaning its most likely NOT due to alignment issues. Long story short when I spoke to them today about the problem, they originally told me they would get me 2 new tires, but now I'm getting 4 NEW TIRES, AND...AND the ones they are getting me are higher "quality"!!WOOT!

I only have ridiculous wear on the front two tires, rears are ok, but I feel as though the rears are leaking air quite rapidly (down 15 - 20 psi every few days). And before everyone jumps down my throat for driving like a speed demon, I DO NOT, seriously, I have kids and dont f-around like that. Everyone gives their car a rev or two here and there, occasionally I do , no lie, but, geesh, i never expected to be through a pair of front tires in 4100 miles. I do cruise on the highway at speeds of 65-75mph for 50 or so miles DAILY. The tires that came with my car are TURANZAs.

I am wondering if anyone else has experienced premature treadwear in any way?

PIX for you to oogle....

Here's the back tire (what a tire tread SHOULD look like after 4100 mi)

and one of the fronts...

Holy crap! That's just plain nuts! I'm almost to 9000 miles on mine and the tires look practically new...

Good thing they're giving you a new set. That's just out of hand.

DAMN. thats massive tread wear.....i was wondering why you were switching ( saw your earlier post somewhere else)....this explains it haha. i havent noticed severe wear like this BUT these tires are total p.o.s.'s and thats for sure. theyre constantly sliding for traction even under normal driving conditions for me -_-...i dont feel safe on them to be honest lol

Wow, that's insane. It's so even too. Glad the dealer is going to take care of it.

Holy moly, what are those tires again? I have my stockies in my garage still and they look very good considering they have 11k mi on them.

Thats a good dealer you have there! They also don't want this to come bite them in the ___ down the road..

Just got back from pickin up my baby. New rubber looks NICE.

They not only got me 4 new wheels, but they said they also upgraded the quality. I'm not really a tire expert, you guys can tell me honestly if I got the hookup or not.

These new tire are Dunlop SP SPORT 5000 195/60R16 89H M+S(anyone know what the m+s means?
The old tires were Bridgestone TURANZA (thats all i know).

Dealer invoice that I signed (and they paid for) was a staggering $899! Apparently the invoice also says that there was a severe pull to the right (i didnt notice it too much) and that the front toe was apparently and I quote from invoice "WAY OUT OF SPEC". After an alignment and test drive they report the pull is gone. I think it felt good on the drive home as well.

Anyhoo, i shot these about 10 minutes ago to give you a visual.

yeah they are a bit noisy....my main complaint is still the issue of grip (lack-there-of)...but w/e...they do the job and haven't caused any major problems..so i guess i shouldn't complain..

m+s means they are an all-season tire (mud + snow)

I am having a similar issue, I am lowered on TRD's (factory installed) and I have gone through 2 sets of tires in the 30k miles I have owned the car, I am on my third set now, the dealer says I drive the car hard and they basically told me to screw... (Harr Toyota, and might I add that they wont honor the extended warranty I purchased, 4th gear grinds everytime, regardless of speed or rpms, and they say they cant reproduce...)

I have Dunlops on my D as well. My boyfriend laughed when he saw them and said they were horrible tires. I haven't had any problems with them. They keep traction a hell of a lot better than the Goodyears I had on my other Toyota!

I was wondering about the road noise from these tires. Good to know I'm not hallucinating about the noise! I miss the Michelins I had.

If they can't reproduce it at the dealership, take a Tech in your car and drive around to reproduce the noise. That or go to a different (better) dealership that actually gives a damn about their customers.
