allright guys.. just got back from the dealer and they said the reason my whole car rattles when i am steering left is that my front axle is bent.. any one know any info that will help me out?? how much is this gona run me to swap out the axle for a new one.. so i can fix this problem car and get it out of my life once and for all.

What did you hit to bend the front axle?
Do they mean the stub-axle or a driveshaft?
How long has it been rattling?

yeah I hit a curb 4 days after I got it doing about 30....bent my axle took 6 weeks to get everything done...

the grand total of the whole repair was 5 grand...I'd have to look and see what just the axle cost...

Sounds like they replaced more than a stub axle.
What else was bent?
Control arms? Subframe? steering arms? tie-rods?
note: I have been an auto mechanic in the past, but I have yet to look under my xB.

oh yeah no the bent axle was just a piece of it...control arm, left air dam, 2 wheels, 2 tires, left side body moulding to name some of it...

I know. I took out the front of a plymouth Duster in the snow. Bent the Kframe, both left side control arms, cracked the spindle, bent wheel....very ugly. Taught me alot about snow.

Also: Gravity always wins.

yeah i've hit a curb before and it wasnt so bad i just needed a new ball joint and alignment and to re-center my steering wheel. luckily this happened to a 80 datsun 210 stationwagon so i did the work easily and cheaply. lesson learned dont drive in the wet with bald rear tires.

1976 Duster with the venerable and (almost) indestructable Slant-6!

I found that jamming the brakes just before turn-in would transfer enough weight forward that the car would actually turn!

Question - Did you try to get your insurance company to cover it? It would have fallen under your collision coverage...

of course I had insurance cover it ...it was wet outside and I didn't have a spare 5g's laying around....but yeah it was the first accident I've ever had....so I was a bit ticked off....
