pkoule 12-24-2004, 06:23 PM What did you hit to bend the front axle?
Do they mean the stub-axle or a driveshaft?
How long has it been rattling?
WheelSee 12-24-2004, 06:54 PM yeah I hit a curb 4 days after I got it doing about 30....bent my axle took 6 weeks to get everything done...

JACKNBX 12-24-2004, 07:38 PM How much did that cost ya? :(
WheelSee 12-24-2004, 08:21 PM the grand total of the whole repair was 5 grand...I'd have to look and see what just the axle cost...

pkoule 12-24-2004, 09:26 PM $5g?
Sounds like they replaced more than a stub axle.
What else was bent?
Control arms? Subframe? steering arms? tie-rods?
note: I have been an auto mechanic in the past, but I have yet to look under my xB.
WheelSee 12-24-2004, 09:45 PM oh yeah no the bent axle was just a piece of it...control arm, left air dam, 2 wheels, 2 tires, left side body moulding to name some of it...
pkoule 12-24-2004, 11:03 PM Hot tip:
Stay away from curbs.
I know. I took out the front of a plymouth Duster in the snow. Bent the Kframe, both left side control arms, cracked the spindle, bent wheel....very ugly. Taught me alot about snow.
Also: Gravity always wins.

hotbox05 12-25-2004, 04:02 AM yeah i've hit a curb before and it wasnt so bad i just needed a new ball joint and alignment and to re-center my steering wheel. luckily this happened to a 80 datsun 210 stationwagon so i did the work easily and cheaply. lesson learned dont drive in the wet with bald rear tires.
Xcalibur1986 12-25-2004, 05:24 PM None of that's covered by warranty? Odd...

1976 Duster with the venerable and (almost) indestructable Slant-6!
I found that jamming the brakes just before turn-in would transfer enough weight forward that the car would actually turn!

Hitting a curb covered by manufacturer warranty - i hope you're joking -lol
5 grand... DAMN
Question - Did you try to get your insurance company to cover it? It would have fallen under your collision coverage...
Xcalibur1986 12-28-2004, 09:17 PM i thought no one was going to get it...
Code3_xB 12-28-2004, 11:46 PM Hehheh... i figured you were being sarcastic - but after being online for so many years and a member of different forums - you just never know! Sad ain't it?? lol
:D
WheelSee 12-29-2004, 04:20 AM of course I had insurance cover it ...it was wet outside and I didn't have a spare 5g's laying around....but yeah it was the first accident I've ever had....so I was a bit ticked off....
