Default Speaker Wiring Question..

Since I didnt install my amp or speakers myself (unfortunately now I have the knowledge to...)I didnt have a say on how to wire everything. Basically the speakers are wired using the factory speaker wiring, and just using some additional wiring for the component speakers' crossover boxes. The speaker output on the amp has the wire running to the back of the head unit area and spliced into the factory harness. Would it be benefical for me to run all new speaker wire directly from each speaker to the amp? Is it going to be that much better...

I like to run speaker wires into the doors.. since there is less chance of picking up noise using the factory wiring... (much of the factory speaker wiring is ran along other wires that get connected to "noisy" components)

if the amp is already installed and there is no whine.. and you don't feel liek running the wires, then you should be fine...

I always run fresh wire just to make sure I don't get any noise and there will not be any power restrictions. If your amp isn't very strong and there's no noise, like oneslowxa said, don't bother. If you are pushing some power, then I'd suggest changing it.

I think ill definately do it on a day that im real bored, at least run new speaker wires for the front. My question is, how does the wire get to the door? Does it go thru that little rubber tube if u know what im tlaking about? obviously the wire is ran somehow so when u open the door its not seen, etc. Just curious.

I was thing about getting some 8gauge knukonceptz wire.. How many feet do you think I would need to do the front speakers and maybe the back. My amp is under the passenger seat. From the previous posts it looks like new speaker wire only prevents noise. Am I not going to notice an increase in sound quality? Im just using the factory wiring and some additional standard speaker cable for the crossovers.

Thats funny. I installed 6.5 polk DB components in front, and 5.25 polk db components in rear, a apline cda-9815 headunit, and jl4300 amp. I ran brand new 12 gauge lightning audio to all speaker and tweeters to my crossovers, then from their to the amp(obviously). Yet, I still pickup the engine noise whine. It really sucks. I have my ground going to the ground for the rest of the wires under driver side kickpanel. Am is mounted under driver side seat. any help? Is it the speaker wire, or the ground? Solutions? It's really tough to live with, cause when girls climb in I just shut off the head unit or bump it, no intermediate point. Oh yeah and it gets louder, and louder as the rpms go higher and higher. Any suggestions would be awesome.

this is probably really overkill, but I ordered 11 g speaker wire. Do any of you guys know if there is space behind the door panel to put the crossover boxes? One is currently under the dash, and the other is behind the glove box. I feel as though it would be more profesional to put it behind the door panel. Although putting it behind the door panel, would require fishing 2 wires thru the door panel , rather than 1, if I just keep the crossovers in the same place.

X2005B,
Usually, engine noise is picked up by the RCAs going to your amp. There are 2 things you can do to correct that. First, reroute the cable along a different path. They are apparently routed to close to electrical interference. Second, buy higher quality cables.

hey chadfo. I have streetwires zero noise cables running from head unit down behind ac controls under the carpet along side the center console, and finally to amp underneath driver side seat.

Hmmm. Sometimes it's just a matter of inches that makes the difference. Are the RCA run alonside of the other wiring under the console? If so, move them to the opposite side. If that isn't the case or doesn't help, then they are close to something behind the dash. Pull them and reroute them trying to keep them away from any other wiring.

tbone587,
There is plenty of room behind the door panels to put a crossover. Like you said, you will have to get two wires through the loom between the door and the jam. That is enough of a pain to keep me from trying it. I have mine behind the kick panels. I have only put crossovers in the doors when the woofer and tweeter are both in there and I had a difficult time finding another suitable place. Normally I don't though because the inside of the doors are high humidity areas.

so chadfo, ur recomending that I dont put the crossover box behind the door panels? I think currently the left crossover box is zip tied underneath a panel, so if I need to make any addjustments (not that you should), you have to cut the zip tie to get there. Also on the right its behind the glovebox, held on by double sided tape, and is imposisble to really fix anything without ripping it off. U definately no more then me, so if u can tell me the best place to put them, ill listen.. The crossovers for my speakers (infinity perfect 6.1) are pretty large, so i dont think they are fitting behind the kick panels/

Once you get your system setup you shouldn't have to touch your crossovers again so putting them in a place for easy access shouldn't be much of an issue. Plus I think it'd probably be harder to remove the door panel to do anything than to reach where you have them now.

When I said mine are behind the kick panels I was a bit misleading. I have to take the kick panels off to get to them but they are actually just above those. There's room in there. There should be plenty of room for your crossovers there.

hey chado, do you know anything about dynmat? I ordered the dynmat door kit and am confused on how the installation is gonna be. Im guessing you trim it to the shape of the door, and then do u cut out out a hole in the dynamat where the speaker is going?

I've never used "Dynamat" before. It should come with instructions on placement. Usually sound dampening is applied to the outer door skin to dampen the largest area of noise transmission.
