Default The world of the dealership (long rant)

Let me first say that I am not trying to attack anybody when writing this. I see a lot of posts about they tried to sell me this or that for this much. What a rip off or how dare they or ??. No matter how we address customers in this industry we will make someone mad. Say we have a list of things we found needing attention during an oil change. One customer will be so grateful. Another. How dare you. You guys are trying to rip me off. Just be warned that whenever you come into the dealership. We will almost always try to up sell something. If your car has low miles. Maybe a rotate, an air filter, or wiper blades. If it has a lot of miles. We may have a longer list. All cars will need maintenance. What I am trying to say we are just doing a job. Some of you get mad, but I guarantee that there would be a lot of customers that would be furious if we didn't tell them about leaks, noises, brakes, and etc.

On another note I know that prices of some of our services are high to some of you. I read a post recently. Said something like X amount for spark plugs. What a rip off. Maybe so to the mechanically inclined. To people who can't change their blades, a bulb, program the radio, adjust the steering wheel, find the hood release, and etc. To those people we are providing a service. Just like a plumber or a carpenter.

I do appreciate this website I have a lot of fun and am learning a lot from the customers point of view

so... you guys washing my tc when i SPECIFICALLY TOLD THE DEALERSHIP NOT TO is ok? and the fact that my tc has swirl marks now is ok? or how about when you guys f'd up on the install of my oem underdash kit, or NOT ROTATING MY DAMN TIRES WHEN I TOLD YOU GUYS TO. and this time around, when you DID rotate them, you paid NO attention to the DIRECTIONAL tread of my tires. nevermind the fact that my upper grille was only half on, or when i picked up my tc all i heard was someone revving it.

Yea, i have really good reason to hate the dealership. It isn't specifically to your dealership, but I'm just sayin'.

look, there are good and bad dealerships out there. my dealership is pretty good, though sometimes, they seem to try and tell me i need something i know i don't, and sometimes, i found out they were lying to me.

i had a trd cai, and after a while, i asked them to check the air fliter element and see if it needed cleaning, and clean it if necessary. they kept saying no, it was fine, no it was fine, and not until i removed my bumper installing vrd foglights did i see how filthy it was because you can't see it without removing the bumper or pulling it out. so they were just too lazy to check for me.

another time, they tried to sell my nitrogen for my tires because of how nascar and air planes use it. well, no, i don't need it, it is just a car, it isn't landing a plane at 155 mph or running a circuit race at 200 mph. regular air which is 70% nitrogen is just fine.

i got a one unnecessary power steering flush, and just two oil changes later, they said i needed another one, and i knew they were lying then if i needed one so soon.

but on the other hand, my dealership does stuff that i appreciate, like i thought my radiator was leaking, did a free pressure test, everything was fine, i asked for a tire rotation, but they said my best tires were already on the front, so it wasn't necessary. i had them install a stop tech stage 2 brake kit, and they were nice enough to heat cycle them for me, they are quiet as stock brake.

ait my dealership is amazing ... they don't rip me off and suggest just the right service and whatnot.

I do understand what the OP is saying... most all of the Cust. are A$$holes!!! no doubt!

im not one of those... because I trust my dealership and yes, I do check everything before and after the service.

the dealerships are just looking out for us... cuz later we go there with a towed car and then b!tch at them because its there fault.

what it boils down to is that the customers are Cheap and don't wanna spend any sort of money... buy they don't realize that these little fixes save a lot of money later.

Yeah, there are good and bad dealerships. It all depends on which you go to.

Around my area: Piercey, Stevens Creek, and Magnussens have always just done what I request without any additional prices. I was in and out faster than I can even go to the bathroom at times. One worker was even surprised I made my own in-cabin filter, and said it doesn't need to be changed, just wag off the dirt which he did for me.
However, Capital Toyota was horrible, as they tried to charge me for my complimentary oil change (it even showed on the computer). I only go there for parts, never again for anything else.

there are good and bad dealerships...yeah...

but spilling 1/2 a quart of synthetic oil and then not cleaning it up is not acceptable....especially when i brought my own oil....

or me bringing in a 5 qt container of synthetic oil and not getting the remaining oil back...

same thing happened to me at hooman toyota/scion of long beach. i specifically marked the left rear inside portion of my when with an LR in the dust. i came to pick up my car and they assured me all the work was done, even a wash. first thing i did was look for the LR on the left rear wheel, and sure enough, it was still there. so they charged me for a service they didnt perform. when i asked why the tires weren't rotated, he said, 'lets go ask the tech'. the tech says, 'i didnt have the lug key to remove the wheels.' fair enough on his part, but maybe he could have told the customer service rep this earlier in the day when i dropped it off? (maybe he did and the rep dropped the ball?). anyhow, i was pretty upset, i provided them with the lug key when i was there to pck up the car (they didnt ask me for it when i was there, and i forgot to mention where it was). they took care of the rotation right there on the spot for me, which was fine, but some type of minor compensation for the mishap would have been cool.

it is very sad these days to feel happy when you actually get decent customer service...when the reality is we should be getting it all the time imho.
