I've never installed a cat-back exhaust and the instructions that came with the parts aren't very detailed. Some of the pipes have slots cut into them but the piece they generally fit into do not have any slots. It also came with 5 clamps. It's clear where they generally go but I'm not sure exactly where along the pipe they clamp. Do they have to wrap and clamp around where the slots will be or somewhere else? How far does the male pipe fit inside the female pipe?

I did a search on google and a guy used some type of compound between the pipes because he said the Borla clamps won't completely seal the joints and allows leakage. Is this necessary?

I have a Borla "cat back" on my Matrix and the installation was pretty straight-forward. I used the included clamps and have no leaks whatsoever.

I'm pretty sure it would be of the same quality for the xB.

Where are you located?

Thanks Squirrel,

I took the rear valence off to prepare it for cutting and took a look at the stock exhaust. Looks easy enough to remove with my cutting tool but there aren't many points to jack the car up so I'm going to have more trouble just getting the car high enough in the air.

I'll look around a little more on google for help. I'm in Dallas, TX, by the way.

I have a 3 ton jack that I use. Jack up the xB on the rear jacking point and place jackstands under the rear beam axle also. There should be plenty of room. I not that skinny and can get under the xB to do everything from a rear axle stiffner (some call them sway bars) to adding lighting.
