View Full Version : Turbo or Supercharger? KYBoy 12-25-2004, 09:57 PM I am going to buy a tc in the next month or two, however I dont know if I should wait for the TRD supercharger and spend an extra 4 grand or get the tc now, save the 4 grand and go turbo? mattman 12-26-2004, 02:34 AM You could just get the car now and use that time to break it in. Then, when the supercharger comes out, your car will be ready for it. BlkSandPrlTurbotC 12-26-2004, 02:53 AM Screw the supercharger. Get the GReddy Turbo in the spring of 2005, the supercharger was pushed back at the same time b/c of a mess up in production! Turbo = more boost! BlkSandPrlTurbotC 12-26-2004, 02:58 AM quick stats on the greddy turbo.. 295 hp, 10 psi KYBoy 12-26-2004, 03:05 AM with the supercharger from dealer i could get it figured in to the finance amount, w/ turbo i would have to save up or put it on a credit card. however i herd they have put the whole supercharger idea on the shelf. That greddy turbo sounds good to me. 295 hp. any prices on the kit? smurf3642 12-26-2004, 08:16 PM quick stats on the greddy turbo.. 295 hp, 10 psi Is that on a stock motor?? or did they change some internals to handle the pressure?? hahaitzskippy 12-26-2004, 10:57 PM quick stats on the greddy turbo.. 295 hp, 10 psi Is that on a stock motor?? or did they change some internals to handle the pressure?? are you sure... thats a lot of HP for a STREET LEGAL TURBO KIT. and ya the stock block should be able to withstand up to 325+ hp safely. come on... its a TOYOTA :D Lightdir 01-04-2005, 06:17 AM I suspect that it only 10 psi due to the fact that that stock compression ratio is 9.6:1. I think that any more boost than that could risk the engine. some of the cars that come with turbo's from the factory are running lower compression ratios somewere between 8.5-8.8:1 and 17-21 psi. Fixtion 01-04-2005, 08:26 AM I'd go Turbo, cheap, light, and the blow off valve's sound is music to my ears, it's art . . . hands down. StraitR 01-04-2005, 01:10 PM How about warranty issues with the turbo?? SC will be covered under warranty being it's TRD. hotbox05 01-04-2005, 01:41 PM good luck with warranty if u turbo say bye bye. lol . but yeah a street legal kit for 295 horse eh? hmm lets hope the clutch i nthe tc's is alot better than in xb/a's.....hmm they need to make something that is carb legal for the xb f'n california ruining everyones fun. i say if it can pass the tailpipe test let it go. Cybergypsy 01-04-2005, 01:49 PM supercharger.... jct 01-04-2005, 02:06 PM just go test drive a few turbo'd cars first and a few super charged cars Stu_Gotti 01-04-2005, 02:19 PM I agree fully about the turbo... its like music when that blow off valve sings! :D Screw a supercharger, use power to make power, or get a turbo, which is free power... hmmm... yeah... you think about it! TeamMightyMiniz 01-05-2005, 01:57 AM the sound of a SC is just as sweet. I'd say SC... Turbo's have a lifespan... SC's have a longer lifespan. It really depends on what you wanna do... really If you want to be a dullassed straight liner... Turbo If you want to show off your skills on a road course... SC it's really all relative. 91Mike 01-05-2005, 06:35 AM Whoa now there's nothing wrong with turbochargers for road course racing. If you're keeping your engine revved to near redline the entire time the lag from even the largest turbos will be minimal when you get back on the gas. You'll more than make up for that on the straightaways with the extra power you can get out of a turbocharger. A supercharger will only have an advantage on the most complex of tracks, or maybe autocrossing, but even then the difference is small. And if you're that concerned with getting every last bit of performance theoretically possible, you shouldn't be driving a FWD vehicle, or a front engined vehicle for that matter. A supercharger is MUCH easier to install, and if you get the one from TRD you won't have to worry about your warranty. Putting on a turbo is much more difficult, and with these newer cars with computers all over the place I wouldn't even try to put one on unless it was specifically designed for the Scion and it's already been proven to work. I tried putting a custom turbo kit together for a new car once before, what a waste of a perfectly good car. SC if you want some easy power, turbo if you want to spend a lot more time and money getting even more power. --Mike |
