For those who have an XD, that had/have a 1st gen XB
I am seriously considering trading in my 1st gen XB on an XD for 2 reasons-either 0% financing or the ability to get into a newer car with lower payments that still is similar to what I have. So I am going to list why I LOVE my first gen XB and hopefully some of you can tell me how the XD stacks up. Thanks
1) I love the shape (XD isn't the same but still sorta unique)
2) I have good springs, ceramic brake pads, wheels and tires and my car is super easy to toss around and drive hard-it will out corner just about anything I have been near.
3) I like the mileage (usually average about 28-30 with mixed city and highway)
4) Being a Toyota is is super reliable but I am still amazed how easy it is to work on (springs, oil/tranny fluid changes, exhaust work, brakes, etc)
5) the room and the comfort-it's just nice to drive
6) The size, it's so easy to park and scoot through traffic.
7) It's plucky and quick (lower gearing, low weight) but not a car that is easy to get into speed troubles with (ala EVO or STi or GTi)
What I guess about the XD-it has a little more power, little more weight, I've heard it rides a little smoother and is quieter. I have heard the seats aren't the most comfortable though and it has less room than mine.
Any help would be great-thanks. Anyone who drives their XD hard-tell me, is it still go-kart like? (like the 1st geb XB)

don't drive mine hard. but only drawbacks i've seen is the smaller trunk area and the part where you pull down the backseat and you loose the back seats leg room. other then that i like the xd.
I don't have a xD, but as a xB owner, I say keep your xB.. there is nothing like our cars on the roads .. every time I see one on the road it make me
. and like you said, more room, and you have it fixed the way you like it.. our box will never go out of style.. also for city driving, you can beat the box, well almost..
on the BIG plus side, what car can you buy now days and not loose much money..hint THE BOX..
I think you should keep your xB.. I know out of the 3 scions I have, I like the xB the most...
just my 2cent..
Keith.

Not owning a xD but having driven a few, I would say it comes down to style versus performance. The 1.8 kills the xB engine, and the xD feels like a more solid platform for handling mods. But like the new xB, it doesn't come close to the iconic design of the 1st gen, one of the best of the last 10 years. And a well-modded xB1 is a thing of beauty that no other Scion model can touch.
i guess in hawaii the xd stands out more. LOL. cause everyone has the 1st gen box. look at all our pics, LOL. all scion events are usually 95% boxes. =( no luv for the other scions. but yeah the power and performance is a few steps upgraded from the xb. that's why i love it. now i don't struggle going over the mountains everyday to work. of course running a bunch of ist stuff everyone looks at my xd even more like "what the ??? is that a real toyota? wait what kinda car is that?"
There are lots of debatable things about both of them, but when is all said and done i think I liked the xB1 more. The only things i really like about the xD that the xB didn't have is, extra safety features, and it's a bit more peppy, but really the xB1 was a great car. After owning a xB1 xB2 and xD I think the xD is my least favorite as far as the stock car itself, mine is sweet cause i have a bunch of stuff on it, but now after owning it for about a month, I realize i liked my xB2 more, and whats crazy is I got about the same gas mileage it my xB2 as my xD averaging 28 mpg.
But still I must give the xD some love, it is a great little car with lots of standard goodies.
oh and yes the seats in the xD are the least comfortable of all the scions I have had, the xB2 being the most comfortable on long trips.

I should add that my xD RS1.0 appeals to more people then any of the other scions I've had, Nobody is really negative towards the D, the xB's were very controversial.
I just got done wahsing the D and I have to give it some more credit it is Hot... hot lava actually

My wife and brother have gen1 xB's, and I have an xD. They are both great little cars.
My advice is simply to test drive the xD and evaluate it in terms of what you want out of the car. For example, I find the xD seats more comfortable than the xB (more lumbar support), but my wife feels the other way (different pedal/steering wheel distances in xD). I find they both drive very well and get very good mileage.
The xD has great storage space, I would say more usable than the xB's, which is mostly vertical, although it is technically less in footage than the xB. But the xD does have poor rear headroom for taller people.
The onlt other significant difference I can think of is that the xD does not come with stability control standard, you can get it for ~$600. Even so, both cars are very safe overall, although I think the xD comes with more airbags and active head restraints.

I would stick with the xB box. That car is so freakin' weird - it's only gonna get weirder as time goes on. The xD is cool, but doesn't have the wacko factor the original xB had
