Default Catalytic Converter?

Hmm so on my trip to BFE my CEL came one and I drove roughly 140 miles ____tingbricks becuase I was scared I was going to blow something up.

Pulled in at a Toyota to have it checked, my boy told me I had an effed up catalytic converter, his brilliant suggestion was "Just Get Headers"

now, suppose I don't want headers how much is it roughly to swap out a catalytic converter? and more importantly what is the possible damage with driving with a messed up catalytic converter?

the only damage i can think of is you sputing out raw exhaust fumes. and go to a muffler shop and have them weld on a new legal cat convertor for like 150-200$.

wait when you say boosted I assume you mean s/c since the cat would be deleted it you had a turbo system anyway, it should still be under warranty, it not I have a stock header with the cat Ill sale you for 75 plus shipping only has 8k miles on it

get a used cat from someone who got new an aftermarket header? people usually either sell for cheap or even throw away their OEM parts.

it says in his sig that he is boosted, and if it is the primary cat an exhaust shop cant fix it you need the entire manifold assembly since the cat is integrated into the manifold they cant just cut it out and weld in a new one

they can usually get the header for you, or at least shops by me can,

but to the OP, if you are supercharged, pick up an OEM header in the classifieds or ebay for pretty cheap.

but if you're turboed, you should have expected a CEL before you even bougt a kit.

still, never go to that toyota place again lol

bah, why waste your time? just get a performance header, with the supercharger, you pick up another 20 whp.

also, are you sure the cat went bad? just reset it and see if it comes back. when i put the header on with the cel eliminator, worked fine for a few months, then one week, i got a cell for the missing cat, but i just pulled the code with the scangaugeII, and the car has run perfectly fine every since.
