Default Why so few gen 2 xB's running on air?

I am curious as to why there are so few gen 2 xB's running an air ride suspension.

Are Gen 2 owners not into air ride?
Are the not happy with the kits?
Are you saving up the money for a kit?

Feedback is appreciated......

I'd do it if I got a great hook up on the front struts. But the $800 that I've been quoted is ridiculous, IMO. Especially when the 1st gen's struts are around $550...
I will be doing air as soon as I get enough $$$ scraped up.
It's tough to round up funds when your car payment is over $400 a month.

Ouch severed thats steep for a B!

I'll be on air here in a minute with the new build, it is expensive, and I think the Gen2 aftermarket is a little week still

I also think people are being funneled into buying Ksport coils because nobody else is making a move on it

Which is unfortunate because its such a poor product, but you're talking about 1/3 the price of air

plus a little of the other stuff too, different market than the first gen, more expensive parts

The parts are still fairly expensive. The UAS kit is great, but won't get me as low as I want to get. Grant opted for the KSports with the UAS bags, and his front gets down. I think if I get the Easy Street struts, cut them up a little, I'll be down about where I want.

If I have to cut my strut towers, I will. But I don't really want to...

$2200 for a complete kit is not that much. When the gen 1 kits came out they were $2600-$2800.

what price point would you make the purchase of an air ride kit? Be realistic here, of course we would all buy it at $1000 but it is not possible.

Are we thinking $1500, $1700, $1900?

Keep in mind the current costs of the kits

I can get UAS kits for around about the lowest point that you stated. I know Randode sells full kits with the Easy Street front struts and GC valves (which I prefer over craptastic manifolds) for about $1900. Granted $2200 isn't bad for a kit, but I'm extremely particular about the product that I use.
Kit I'd want to run would consist of 2 Viair 480's, 5 gallon tank, 8 Parker 3/8" valves, Easy Street front struts, and UAS rear bracketry and bags.

If you could buy a package that was the tank, the easystreet front struts and 2 Viair 480's right now would you?

I am wondering how close to buying you are. I may be able to work that package out but need to know if you funds available for a purchase or not before I look into it.

Don't do anything just yet... I'm working as much overtime as I can. When tax time comes around I'll possibly be ready to make the jump.

It's not if I'm going to do it, it's just when.

Okay hit me up when you are ready, I will see what I can do to help you on the easystreet struts, compressors and tank.

Oh you also know that the rear bag on the Easystreet kit was redsigned specifically for this car with the help of Scionpro.......

Doesn't really matter about the rear being redesigned by anyone... I'm planning on drilling out the spot welds of the stock spring perch cause it has a nub on it so the spring sits in there. That piece of metal isn't needed. I'll then proceed to bolt the bag straight to the unibody, run a cup on the bottom, and use the bag upside down.

Same thing Randy's been doing (photos courtesy of James on scionapocalypse.com)
Removed the rear top spring holder

Gone

Bag mounted directly to the frame with a mounting plate and bolt through the frame

Not much of a difference, though. Well, from what I could see. I'd rather run a double convulted bag rather than the sleeve bag that the ES kit comes with.

I dont think you will ba able to do that. the 2gen has a weird mount with a single bolt holding it. I dont think there is any flat area to mount the bag to. hence the need for brackets.

Not sure why you think that the K sport is such a poor product. Many of us on here have been running them for a while and have no issues.

I would not do air on mine for the fact it doesnt flow with the style I went after. There isnt many kits to shoose from so that might be a issue also. I have had 4 bagged vehicles in the past and think it is cool for sure. But nothing like being able to climb in and know that it is going to lift and get you to work. LOL...

Just a lot of experiences with them falling apart before they're supposed to on subies, and even heard a lot about them on Gen1's *shrug* I just wish we could get HKS or BC or KW's something with more experience and better product.

I wouldn't even go as far as to say their horrible, they just have a case of the, "get what you pay for"'s, ya' know?

As far as Air Coils or Springs go, for me on this build its air, but thats because to me this isn't a performance car, it's my cruiser comfy toy, to me, airs the best way to get the look I want, and the ride I want, but isn't suitable for tracking (nor will this xB ever see the tarmac)

If this was my STi it'd have the best coils money could buy, gives me play with ride height, and performance at the track, rides gonna suck but she's all business

If I was broke, had more important things to do than mod a car, but want to get it dialed in so I'm proud of my Daily Drive, I'd go springs, hardly changes the ride, drops you where you want it, and if you had a nice set on a trim car you could theoretically hit the track and your driving would still do most of the talking.

thats just my outlook I spose
