View Full Version : CLEARED HEADLIGHTS......ANY TICKETS?!
EastTNScionxB 12-27-2004, 06:48 PM Has anyone out there cleared the headlights on their xB and used it as a daily driver? Any tickets from that? Do you use white bulbs or have you kept them amber?
I am clearing my headlamps and switching to a super white bulb so the headlamp assembly has a blue tint when not lit and is all white when lit. Please let me know if any of you have had any difficulties with the authorities.
Thanks!
parkyboi 12-27-2004, 07:15 PM yea i cleared them, but i kept the amber bulbs...i think cops give a harder time on people with smoked tailights. i think ull be ok
Doublearock 12-27-2004, 07:20 PM I cleared my healights about a month ago, and i am using the chrome bulbs that are amber when they are on. Have not had any problems as of yet. I know that the hyper white bulbs as turn signals are illegal. Just gotta hope for the best i guess.
cochise7969 12-27-2004, 07:23 PM Yeah I got some silver star light bulbs that sound like exactly what your talking about and I've had no problems with the cops.

CoChise,
Your silverstars are white? I have seen the silverstars with a coating on them that make them seem chrome until they are lit. Which do you have?
hotbox05 12-27-2004, 07:42 PM hyper white is legal. front signals by law can be white or amber. it's if the white turns to blue is when it becomes illegal. the rears must be red or amber.
THE_DON 12-27-2004, 08:08 PM I have chrome bulbs that light up white. No problems. Most cops wouldn't even notice the difference. And as stated above, your turn signals can be white in front. Only "blue" lights would draw attention.

EastTNScionxB 12-27-2004, 08:11 PM I appreciate it guys. Please continue to post your replies....I want to be sure I don't get a citation. The car draws enough attention around here by itself. Been pulled over twice and removed from the car just so the Sherrifs could admire its unique nature. I'll go with teh hyper white PIAA 1157 bulbs for the front.
sciondrgn 12-27-2004, 08:52 PM They made you get out just to look at it? Id be reporting some officers.. but then again it might have saved you o_O what are you doing to get pulled over :-D
EastTNScionxB 12-27-2004, 08:56 PM I was driving......no more than 5 over. They were really nice. I live in an area with a small population. I could tell by the way they pulled me over I wasn't in any kind of trouble. The hilarious part is bBism told me the night before my first recreational pull-over that the same thing had happened to him......and he lives 90 mins away! I get a kick out of it.

MotoMan_YZ400 12-28-2004, 12:13 AM Cleared mine about 2-3 weeks ago.... I really dont have any problems, saying I always drive w/ my lights on reguardless... So they always look amber while i'm driving....

What state is that in? In California, front signals have to be amber.

If you checked the vehicle code first:
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc24953.htm
You wouldn't make mistakes like that.
Front signals have to be white or amber. Rear have to be red or amber. Auxilary side signals (the ones in the middle of the fenders) have to be amber if they are forward of the driver (as the ones on our cars are) or red if they are aft of the driver.
Now, the real place that cleared front lights might run afoul of the vehicle code is the fact that you are removing the side reflectors. However, I can find no section that requires side reflectors on passenger cars! Section 24607 requires two red reflectors on the rear of the car (of interest to those clearing their taillights). Section 24608 allows (but does not require except for trucks) amber reflectors to the front and sides.
So, it looks like cleared headlights are perfectly legal with either white or amber bulbs, unless there is something in the vehicle code that I have missed. Since it's legal, it will probably remove most of the incentive to make this mod! :)
From my childhood, I remember when front turn signals switched from white to amber. People were buying amber lenses for their cars so that they would look like the new models that came with them from the factory. :)
EastTNScionxB 12-28-2004, 01:44 AM GREAT Post George! Thank you VERY much!
pileofmonkeycrap 12-28-2004, 01:51 AM I cleared mine 3 days after buying the Xb. Had it for a few months now and no problems. Plus I have dark tint and no front license plate....no problems.
hotbox05 12-28-2004, 01:53 AM i wish i didnt have to run front plate.
