View Full Version : xB Taxi Cabs???
Bsbox 12-27-2004, 07:08 PM Has anyone been to London and been in those funky taxi busses? Wouldn't it be cool if they were xb's. Someone needs to start an xB taxi service in the states. Of course they might need luggage compartments on the roofs in case the fair wants to bring alot of luggage. However, for the late night party crowd it would be an awsome drunk bus. At the moment they are using 3/4 ton vans for this purpose.
Nathant888 12-27-2004, 08:07 PM  Interesting though
Old_Punk 12-27-2004, 09:52 PM I know that various taxi operators have tried minivans in the past, since they're easier to get in and out of and can hold more passengers. But they turned out not to be durable enough for all-day-every-day driving. I imagine the same would be true for an xB. They might be tough enough for light shuttle work, though.

Da_BoX 12-27-2004, 10:50 PM ive seen a picture of a xB taxi before i can't find it tho
TheScionicMan 12-27-2004, 11:17 PM They have those tall english cabs running around here in SF, They look funky but not that much like an xB except for the high roofline...
People that buy the RS2 xB in Yellow will probably have people jumping in there backseats by mistake... ;)
Kool_B 12-28-2004, 01:13 AM I have seen two so far being used as Taxi's. One is White the other Yellow and they were both seen in Hemet CA. around Sanderson and Florida Street. 8)

Way coool rendering! But the NYC streets might kill them, and how would you fit two or three people with luggage from the airport?
NYC cabs can fit a bicycle in the trunk...with the wheels ON!

I heard that the daytime rental companies in the city (rent for 2-3 hour places) are renting out xBs.. I hope that ain't true.. It's worse enough hearing the milktruck or the boxy comments..
BlueBoxer 12-28-2004, 04:31 AM In my area. Northeren Virginia there is a taxi service that uses a fleet of xB's. I think its called Red Top Cab. I will get a pic if I can figure out were they are!
scionmag 12-28-2004, 05:12 AM hey if they can make a prius into a taxi... why not an xB

City Car Share in SF has an xB and a couple of xAs. Perfect cars for the job...
ohcanada_00 12-28-2004, 06:49 PM I think it would be a great taxi. Better than those gas guzzleing Crown Vic's and the like.
As a side note, there is a dude running around Tacoma in a ES 300 he changed over to a taxi with rims and tint and a body kit. Thought it would be funny to be a taxi cab driver so he took his car, pimped it out and became a licenced taxi driver. wierd, but kinda cool.

Gas guzzling?? My 94 Police Interceptor (same car they use as taxis because of all the HD parts) get 22 MPG city and 30 MPG highway. And remember... this is coming from a V8! A tank of gas lasts me about 3 weeks because I have a mile and a half commute to work and the talk is about 25 gallons.
greenstaxi 10-05-2006, 02:07 PM We are a small seven taxi company in the Pittsburgh suburbs. We just purchased three
xBs as taxis to replace three of our aging Dodge Carvans. The Caravans ranged in mileage from 190,000 to 327,000 miles. We are looking forward to better gas mileage from the xBs and hopefully as many miles. If anyone on the forum is currently using the xB as a cab please contact me at greenstaxi@yahoo.com
LoadedAgain 10-05-2006, 02:19 PM Wow! I would like to see you start a separate thread of website so we can track the progress and the mileage on these guys ramp FAST!!

Do you really want to admit on a public forum that you have been in Hemet?
Supertech 10-06-2006, 08:42 PM It's hotter in Heater than Hooker and hotter than hell in Hemet.

I've ridden in the #67 Red-Top xB. I know of at least one other that typically runs in the Reston Herndon area. You might catch them in the taxi-stand line at the RTC Hyatt.
According to the owner-operator, he's managed to put on 115,000 miles in 15 months, with four brake jobs along the way. Seems durable enough to me. He's shooting for around 280 when it will be considered fully depreciated.
The interior is fitted with a vinyl floor and upholstery to meet the requirements of whatever taxi commission he's registered with. Ride seemed a lot smoother than mine, but ha said he had not replaced any suspension parts.
kdog_1981 10-06-2006, 09:09 PM wow!
Shmoo 10-09-2006, 02:30 AM lol, xb cabs? What if you picked up 4 x 300 lb persons?
jwaj2002 10-09-2006, 02:43 AM I'd like to see an xb or tc limo, saw a pantiac grand prix limo in nascar paint, at the airport in baltimore maryland, it was the length of a fullsized limo, if they can turn a peice of junk like that into a limo, they should be able to make an awesome one out of an xb or tc
stew32 10-19-2006, 02:59 AM I just saw an xB cab in northern VA this past Saturday. I think it was for "blue top" cab company because it was blue and white. Didn't get a good look because traffic was ugly from the Air Force memorial road closings.

x-boxster 10-19-2006, 03:03 PM Ok, you got me...She's our cleaning lady. But still, dudette sports a finer ride than me...Quite ironic if you ask me(imho)
:lalala:
kina2001 10-25-2006, 03:07 AM Maui has a fleet of white xB taxi cabs. When you drive around here you'll see one, then a block later you'll see another, then another somewhere else.
cvrefugee 10-25-2006, 07:09 AM That's weird, I saw a RS 2.0 taxi on my way to school last week (in Riverside, CA). I, of course, have a RS 2.0 as well.
