I fixed sunroof rattling and vibrating problems!
Two months ago, I heard vibrating sound from driver side's sunroof whenever I drive at 65 MPH on highway. Its sound is like hitting glass by a metal stuff. I tried to fix it but failed. Finally, I went to dealership. The technican heard the same sound as what I heard through his own driving test. The dealership FIXED IT. Toyota has sunroof vibrating reduction kit. If you guys still have the problem, go to any dealership and call TSB about sunroof vibrating problem. Since they fixed my car, I have driven 100 miles and have heard weird sound ONLY ONCE. When I heard 'once', I drove at 75 MPH on deep rough road.
It is most likely the wind deflector arms. About 10 minutes and a couple of dabs of lithium grease will fix it for you. If that is what they fixed, my bet is that they installed a couple of foam washers or plastic spacers ;) The actual sunroof has little way to rattle, the mechanism (aka the arms I mentioned) have no tension on them when closed and have plenty of play to make a rattle sound if there is no grease on the pivots.
