Hey I was on eBay today and was looking to purchase some new projectors for my tC. Right now I have these:

Well I saw these on there today too that look just like the 08 projectors, I see the projectors are clear unlike the other ones, I was trying to see if anyone has tried em and if the light output, cutoff, and leaking/fogging problem is better than the other ones.

Save up all that money you spent, or are going to spend on crappy lights, and just get the 08's

 

how much better is the light output and cutoff in the 08's anyway? Because with a little adjustment I've gotten pretty decent results with these cheap ebay projectors. I drive everynight and I have to deal with the almost blinding glare of BMW, and Range Rover projectors. The ebay ones if adjusted right basically give off zero glare. My only problem with the is that the lens is colored purple or blue or some crap and it kinda drowns out the light output, and also the fact that I had to seal them twice with sealant.

 

thats not glare from the BMW or Range Rover projectors, your just in the cutoff. output wise the 08's are way better than any ebay projector ive seen. save your money.

they can't be knockoffs if they existed before the 2008 headlights came out..

to knock off something.. you kinda need to have something to begin with to knock off..

well yea the ones I'm referring to weren't on ebay until recently, (that I've seen anyway). I was just curious as to how well they would perform. I know for $97 though they wont be a good as the $200 08's

Im giving you my advice from personal experience..

The first headlights i have on my car currently and have had them for 6 months. THEY ARE HORRIBLE. The ONLY good thing about them is that the halos look sick as hell. The projectors suck assss. Trying to adjust the beam took my 2 hours each for 4 days... nuff said. And i had to rewire everything because it was set up horribly. Took my 6 hours to install with help too. Bulbs burnt out in 3 months. And the projector lens color is purple which when on turns pink and looks ___ as hell. So if your going to get them... Retrofit everything like i am (either on these or my 08s not sure yet).

And the second ones look like crap.

 

yea i just bought the 08 projectors and installed them and was absolutely blown away by the difference. The difference in the light output is just absolutely rediculous. The light output on the ebay projectors was basically comparable to a regular halogen bulb. And I see what your saying about the purple coated lens, even with a 4300k bulb I still got horrible light output. I would love to retrofit, but I dont have the time to do it. Plus when you retrofit, can you just take the lens out and swap it for another for example a s2000 or tsx lens? Or do you have to buy other stuff as well? Also where is the cheapest place to get these materials from?

 

an HID retro would consist of an HID projector (i.e. TSX, TL, BMW, Lexus, Infiniti) a set of HID D2S ballast and D2S bulbs. check out HIDPlanet.com/forums for more info. swaping out the lense will help with the cutoff being sharper but nothing compared to swaping out the whole halogen projector with an HID projector.

 

Is it possible to swap out the lens? Where would i find one anyways?

 

yes you can swap out the lense on the halogen projector. i would say its a 2.5" lense but not too sure on what the output would be. If you plan on putting HIDs in them and your planning on swapping out the lense, just swap out the projector with a TSX clear lense projector. those are pretty easy to work with.

other than the cutoff is the light output that much greater with a tsx, s2000, fx, lens??? I am pretty happy with the output of the 08 halogen projectors, and even though the cutoff isn't razor sharp, i still never get flashed by oncoming traffic, and I dont annoy people who I drive behind. So is the retrofit option really really worth it.....?? I ask because after buying the 08 Projectors $405 shipped, Mobile HID bulbs $60 shipped, a pair of Aline Electric ballast $60 shipped, and a relay harness $27 shipped, thats $552 right there. I've heard that retrofits can cost about $1000. So is it really worth the money?

wow yea i guess thatz about as razor sharp of a cutoff you can get. The light spread also looks better than what I have with the 08's. But....how much did you spend for projectors, and tsx lens, how much time did it take you to do this project, and as far as skill level what would you rate it on a scale from 1-10?

ive had those exact same ones... they fog up easy so you have to reseal them, and they dont light up as well... trust me just get HID and a retrofit kit if you want the beamer look!!
