Hey anyone have an idea what a normally open boost solenoid and a normally closed solenoid is?
Im trying to use my aem boost solenoid with my hydra ems for boost control but I need to know the kind of solenoid first (aem boost solenoid)..

i have no idea.. just post this on the aem tech boards... on aem.com

It depends on the configuration. The apexi AVC-R boost solenoid can be both open and closed, depending on which valve side you use, and what you set the solenoid to.
Here's an example...
With an internal wastegate or an external wastegate being connected with a SINGLE vacuum line, the solenoid is open. You are effectively tapping the one vacuum line going to the wastegate and opening it up. As you hit the desired boost level, it closes, keeping the boost level.
When connecting TWO hoses to an EXTERNAL wastegate, you would be setting it up for a closed solenoid configuration. This means that the solenoid connects to the top of your wastegate, stays closed, and effectively traps the boost inside the wastegate. This is how higher boost is maintained. Once you hit the desired boost level, the solenoid then opens and lets out the extra pressure. This will then keep the boost level at your desired setting.
I hope that makes sense! Sorry if it's confusing but I'm tired and that's the best way to explain it lol.

 Thanks Joe!
So when it comes to the aem truboost setup, its gonna be a closed solenoid configuration then
Port 1= connects to the manifold pressure and bottom wastegate
Port 2= connects to the top wastegate barb ----> this makes the setting a closed one?
Port 3= sintered muffer
makes sense to me but the the spring pressure/wg crack pressure setting makes it confusing, it says in the manual that wg crack setting allows the solenoid to stay open and build boost until you reached the psi you have it set, let say wastegate crack pressure set at 5 psi, it allows the solenoid to stay open (keep the boost) until it reaches 5 psi then the solenoid closes and wg starts to open.. they prolly are talking bout a different setting.. i guess its time to review the wastegate/solenoid mechanism..
btw, what is the function of the sintered muffler?
