im fresh from the dealer and ill be picking up my box on wensday, i got it at caldwell scion in nj - i got an 04 automatic in silver. it was the last 04 they had and they gave me a lil break on the price allthough there was a minor issue--- the car had floormats and a cargo net allready installed and they refused to take them out, becuase i didnt want to pay for over priced junk, at first they refused to remove them because they claimed they wouldnt be able to get credit for the parts so he made me an offer the seemed like i would get the mats and net for free however i noticed that the qoute was $3 more a month so they were actually charging me for the mats and net. finally i got them to go back to the original quote and they are going to remove the new and mats... whew but i gotta say in the end stanley was a good sales man. and if all goes well on weds i would def recomend him to anyone lookin to buy a scion.

The mats aren't junk, I have them and I like them. I don't have the cargo net though but you're right, there's no need to pay for something you don't want.

And if you financed your mats with the price of the car, then the POS $50 mats will end up costing you 3 times as much. Will those mats last you the life of the Scion? Not likely.

You were right to stand your ground on the mats. Let them install that crap on another Scion, and let some other sucker pay for it.

I'm about to order my xB... so are you saying it is smart to outright purchase any accessories and only finance the base model car? I didn't know you could do that.

its definatlly cheaper to buy after market accessories plus the fact you dont have to deal with and sales men - they make everything harder then it needs to be.

I'd agree that the parts will be cheaper if bought elsewhere, but I personally had no issues with my salesman. The guy didn't care if I bought the car with or without any accessories.

btw- the floormats are ok. I like the scion lettering, but they seem to wear a little bit too much given the mileage on the car. However, they are covered under the factory warranty if bought with the car, so I'll be exchanging them out a few times before the warranty is up.

there's one thing about the factory warranty.... it doesn't cover normal wear and tear... and walking on your floormats would be um.... normal wear and tear

the drivers matt has warranty after it wears out you can get it exchanged--or so i read... anywayz..i modded my car with some dealer options--BIG mistake--there are other effective and cheaper ways..

Yeah, I've only read the same. I don't personally know anyone who has exchanged the floormats, but "heard" on this board that one or two people have done it w/o problems. If I can't exchange the floormats out, I'll be a little disappointed b/c I could have saved a few $.

The only thing you have to pay for is the car itself. All other goodies will end up costing you in the long run. For those of you who are purchasing your boxes and doorstops now, you have a lot more of an open market for after market parts. If you do your homework, you can save a bundle. If you go to a dealer, and they push the extras on you, tell them no, then tell them you WILL be making a call to the Scion Corp. This should make them change their tune rihgt then and there. Scion is 100% into customer satisfaction.

Heres something to think about. There is a close friend of mine here on SL, who purchased the 19" TRD wheels through Scion. I believe he paid close to 2 grand for the wheels. Then he financed them with the purchase of his box. Now the wheels in the long run will cost him close to $2,500 or more. If you go with the stockers, and buy the wheels out right, you can save $1,500 or more! Who isnt into saving money? Everything from floor mats to wheels to intakes ( which most are not covered under a manufactors warrenty ) are not necessary to make the purchase.

BTW ... he is currently trying to sell the wheels at half the price he paid for them. he is tired of replacing tires.

um yeah i was gonna get one without mats but theyd have to factory order it and i'd save 150 but i'd have to wait another month. but i have heard lots of stories of mats being worn thru quickly and then being replace under warranty

I got mine w/ mats and the net - because for the same reason the rep
told me the car had them included in the price already........

But I managed to get the College rebate and a $200 referral check
(from Toyota) because I was a returning customer........ so it worked out!
and I got the extended warranty so anything goes - they fix!

My total cost came out to just shy of $300/5yrs.
