i have an even simpler idea, when you park your car, put everything of value completely out of sight, like in the glove box, or the center console or whatever.
a security system really doesn't do jack squat. you leave your ipod sitting in your cup holder for all to see as they walk by, it doesn't make a difference if you have a security system or not, all they do is smash, grab and run. doesn't matter if they have an alarm system or not.
so keep your valuables out of sight, maybe get your windows tinted to help out somewhat, but just be smarter then the thieves.

sucks to hear about that, and drax has some good advice....
but pepboys or your local autostore or walmart sells things made for deternt. Its like a bar of 3 l.e.d.s that you can have blink, run a pattern etc to look like an alarm

Based on what he wrote I don't believe he doesn't actually wants an alarm he just wants a flashing LED that looks like an alarm. It'll cost him next to noting and may be able to scare off punk or too so why not?
Of course you should still stash valuables out of sight, but an LED can't hurt.
