View Full Version : Frame Brace !!! MyBoX 12-29-2004, 06:15 PM I know sway bars help alot on handeling but wondering about frame brace any one here with one who can give me some updates, I just want see if its worth the price, Thanks Sean squirrel 12-29-2004, 06:21 PM Sean, any of the front frame bracing should tighten everything up. There are two, one for the front/front lower in front of the lower subassembly, and front/rear lower that ties in the lower assembly that replaces the two individual struts. I know the simple rear one that connects between the two bolts doesn't, but I have seen a rear one out of Japan that tightens it up. Ken (NCP31) has the front/rear lower and it scrapes bad on lowered xBs. Especially on SoCal speed bumps. dgHotLava 12-29-2004, 06:49 PM i think i have every brace poss... only if you push your car to the extreme will you notice any big benefits.... i do notice that the box does not feel as vague (not like it ever was vague...). if you have done the sways and strut bars and springs then go for it... if this is your first suspension add on, do the sways first... just encountered the first problem with the braces being lowered... went to pull my car on to a lift and it scraped.... MyBoX 12-30-2004, 02:42 AM Thanks for the info, I'm not going to push the car raelly hard (hell I'm scared if my tires are going to rub) I already added the rear Sways and I know that should do the trick for me, I just wanted see if its worth $200 but guess not for me. Thanks again for your help guys, Take care All Sean tinybigrig 12-30-2004, 07:41 AM if you want framebracing id run the apr up front, it also comes with a little rear connectore for the rear, but id through that away and get eh jdm vitz one toyxbox has that he got fro cabe toyota in long beach cali brent NJthunder5spd 12-30-2004, 03:36 PM im with DG. i have almost every brace possible n i dont notice them until im pushing the B to its limits. just another item to add to the list of mods basically. plus i made mine so its that much cheaper 12-31-2004, 09:10 PM I have the JiC type2 and I am scared over every speed bump. I have scrapped it too. I can feel it working though, along with my swaybars and 18s. Corners fear me now! dgHotLava 01-01-2005, 12:17 AM type 1, type 2, mid frame, rear brace, strut bar, sways, 18's, 2.5 " drop... i am the corners master.........lol never bottomed out........yet......lol 01-01-2005, 04:14 AM never bottomed out........yet......lol Man, you just jinked your self right there! Its gonna happen soon. And not when your doing something cool, either. I scraped after I got gas, I was ____ed! dgHotLava 01-01-2005, 12:28 PM yeah, thats the general curse....lol good thing is, they don't belive in speed bumps where i live....yea for me... Maicca 01-05-2005, 01:20 PM What are the available frame braces for the xB? I have seen the Cusco and the JIC. Mid frame brace :?: Rear brace :?: Enlighten me as to my options :D I want to stiffen this box up by adding braces to the front, mid, and rear. Coilovers coming in the spring  Lip 01-17-2005, 10:54 AM this frame brace just came out. I'm putting it on this afternoon even though its not going to help in the snow...lol http://www.partshippers.com/index.php?main_page=gallery http://img144.exs.cx/img144/9690/GTSpecLowerFrameBrace1.jpg hotbox05 01-18-2005, 10:55 AM ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ i like this one , nice and slim . candy orange too yummy lol Lip 01-18-2005, 12:39 PM it sits higher then the jic front brace by quite a bit. there are 9 available. i took the box out this morning and without question the box balanced out. to put it in perspective.... I have the : jic front lower brace Progressive rear sway bar Goldline springs GT Spec rear strut bar GT Spec front strut bar GT Spec subframe to chassis brace Prior to putting the rear strut bar and subframe brace..... going from a performance tire with a stiffer sidewall to the stock tires gave me more push in corners and some body roll. By putting the rear strut and chassis brace in ...using the stock tires and those 2 pieces gave me my balance back with no push and turn in is still sharp even using stock tires(winter time in the NE). I'm impressed with the mods. Can't wait to have real rubber under the car again. Lip 01-19-2005, 04:18 PM just an fyi....the jic front lower brace with a 2.5" drop even using stock rims and tires prevents me from going into an automated car wash. that lower front sits too low unlike the GTSpec frame brace. 8 left. going fast. i guess its not fair unless i post a pic of that jic hanging down low http://img152.exs.cx/img152/203/JICfrontlower2.jpg Maicca 01-20-2005, 04:36 PM The JIC one looks beefy! Me like! I haven't had much luck with GT Spec products in the past, so I avoid them..... Lip 01-20-2005, 05:28 PM you really should be a little more specific before making a general statement like that. i have all 3 of their scion braces and fitment is perfect. they weigh next to nothing which is good for our 1.5 liter toasters. The welds are great, finish is very very nice. so whats the beef with the product specifically. pdrizzle 01-20-2005, 06:40 PM I'm still kinda confused as to how many frame braces there are and where they are attached. Can someone (several people) please post pics of every type so that I can get a better idea? I see that the orange one above is a type II and the silver one is a type I. Does the type II replace the type I? I want to get some of these braces, I just don't know what does what. I know this is asking a lot, but a diagram of the underbody of our cars with a drawing of where the braces go would be awesome if someone has the time. Lip 01-20-2005, 07:31 PM the orange one above GTSpec(your calling type II) works with the silver type 1. one connects the back of the subframe to the chassis as i indicated. The silver one (which i'm having GTSpec make a version that gives more ground clearance in orange as well) connects the front part of the subframe. Its also known as a tie bar. here is the JIC Type 1 which sits way too low. you can see the mounting points on the front of the subframe. i tried to run the box through an automated carwash and that JIC wasn't going through what so ever. I only have Goldline springs and using stock tires for the winter and the JIC is the only thing hitting. that help? http://img87.exs.cx/img87/203/JICfrontlower2.jpg dgHotLava 01-21-2005, 12:02 AM let me know when the GT type 1 comes out!!! i want to get them to re-do the rear set up i have... talk to them...please.... Lip 01-21-2005, 11:06 AM i am...i promise. aireck 01-21-2005, 12:56 PM do they sell these in sets?? Lip 01-21-2005, 02:50 PM Here are all three current Scion XB GTSpec braces installed http://www.partshippers.com/index.php?main_page=gallery kidkamel 01-26-2005, 05:44 PM Does this one really make a difference? http://www.partshippers.com/images/GTSpec2.jpg Lip 01-26-2005, 06:02 PM more chassis stiffening then anything. Unless your willing to weld or drill your own holes and make your own bar...this is the best your going to do.. truth is...with the height to length and width ratio of the box...anything is beneficial to some extent Maicca 01-30-2005, 06:27 PM you really should be a little more specific before making a general statement like that. i have all 3 of their scion braces and fitment is perfect. they weigh next to nothing which is good for our 1.5 liter toasters. The welds are great, finish is very very nice. so whats the beef with the product specifically. Well, if I were more specific, then I wouldn't be making a general statement, now would I? :P Specifically, I bought solid end links from them. Less than 30 days after I purchased them, the rubber connecting points blew out, taking my bolts with it. I attempted to contact them via email many times; received 0 responses- not even an automated "Thanks for the email!" So, FOR ME PERSONALLY, no GT Spec products. Lip 01-30-2005, 08:29 PM solid endlinks with rubber connecting points? have any photos of the rubber pieces that "blew out"? sometimes things just "fall out" when not properly installed. if you don't use washers on both sides of rubber bushings and also lock them down...the nuts will simply back out. just curious what your talking about since its another vague reply. :P btw..the brace has no bushings so you'll be just fine :P windowtint 01-30-2005, 08:56 PM I notice there is not a single mention of PRICE?!?!?!? How much was/is it. Their website is equally vague about posting a price (says to call or email for pricing...) It's a good looking part - and is probably somewhat effective - but being in business myself - I find it a little suspicious when a company is secretive with prices and expects you to do some footwork for a $ amount. Maybe being a little paranoid - but it IS a little suspicious. Lip 01-30-2005, 11:06 PM if your talking about partshippers.com its because its a group buy for the pieces right now and i'm not aloud to post prices here either. windowtint 01-31-2005, 12:35 AM ahhhhhh... that explains it - and you got a PM back by the way. Thanks. |
