WHere you able to take pictures of the actual pothole itself? If you answer yes to all of the question above..Yes..you can give it a try...if you answer No to any of the questions...then probably not... The same thing happened to me about a week ago. I had all of the above except the picture of the actual pothole. The next morning I went to take pics...but guess what??? They had fixed it...So..tough luck for me....and sorry to hear about your rim and tire! :D  GOT_JDM 12-30-2004, 03:45 PM thanks i might do that today. it happened on the fwy. i dont know if i can get a picture of the pothole. man this rain in california sux. :( Fujiz_xb 12-30-2004, 04:25 PM there are alot in the chicago area..specially the suburbs..sux cuz im getting 19's GOT_JDM 12-30-2004, 04:28 PM there are alot in the chicago area..specially the suburbs..sux cuz im getting 19's i hope it doesn't happen to you. im thinking of going 40 series instead of 35. maybe. ikhonlord 12-30-2004, 06:07 PM there are alot in the chicago area..specially the suburbs..sux cuz im getting 19's i hope it doesn't happen to you. im thinking of going 40 series instead of 35. maybe. What size rims do you have?? I have 18's and have decided to go with 17's and maybe a 45 series tire. The low pro's look really hot but with the roads up here in the North East being the way the are..i cant take it anymore... :D Fujiz_xb 12-30-2004, 06:46 PM well i have to get 35.. cuz im putting the tanabe df210's so no 40 or especially 45 for me. komik 12-30-2004, 07:17 PM I once hit a manhole cover that was protruding too much from the street. It set off the aribags, locked the seatbelts, and the passenger airbag broke the windshield. It took me a few minutes to realize what had happened. All I knew at first was that I had been driving down the street when my hearing went out and my car filled with smoke. Afterwards, I found out that Collision insurance hadn't been put on my Acura. I would much rather have only bent a rim. Fujiz_xb 12-30-2004, 07:22 PM dude..that sux...why was it smoke? what did you damage? timinaz 12-30-2004, 07:35 PM dude..that sux...why was it smoke? what did you damage? Smoke from the explosives that trigger the airbags... I'm sure 18s would look better, but the roads here in PA are horrible and I need a real-world drivable car. TheScionicMan 12-30-2004, 09:38 PM Man, Oh Man, i didn't need to read this. I already grit my teeth at every pothole and rough spot... Munch 12-30-2004, 09:49 PM Man, Oh Man, i didn't need to read this. I already grit my teeth at every pothole and rough spot... I thought I was the only person that does that  TheScionicMan 12-30-2004, 09:58 PM Man, Oh Man, i didn't need to read this. I already grit my teeth at every pothole and rough spot... I thought I was the only person that does that  Lately, between dodging or wincing at potholes and doing the same when all the loose rocks hit the windshield, I'm a nervous wreck. The only thing that saves me is that any major damage will just be an excuse to upgrade... GOT JDM, what brand of wheel and tire was it? komik 12-30-2004, 09:59 PM dude..that sux... what did you damage? The irony of it all is that the skid plate (that big metal thing that "protects" the car from damage) is the only thing that got messed up. There was a small dent in it. The rest of the damage (windshield, seatbelts, etc.) was all from the airbags, as was the smoke. This is why I hate airbags. I was in a car accident at 30 mph once without airbags and was fine. I was in an accident later in a different car with air bags at the same speed... much much worse. Sorry for being OT. GOT JDM, that sucks about your wheel. Though you still haven't seen a pothole unless you've driven in New Orleans. Good Luck with the lawsuit. matt_a 12-30-2004, 10:05 PM I was in a car accident at 30 mph once without airbags and was fine. I was in an accident later in a different car with air bags at the same speed... much much worse....Sheesh....I bet your insurance premiums are fun. :? Orataro 12-30-2004, 10:28 PM I've had to replace 3 tires in less than a year. This time I'm changing tire brand because I rarely hit potholes but for some reason, my tires are slpitting open on the sidewalls. Max2k 12-30-2004, 10:37 PM Maybe it's time to run reality-sized rims? Cars come with 15s and 16s for a reason. bamabox 12-30-2004, 10:52 PM I work for a repair shop and we also deal with rims tires etc. There has been a few of our customers that have hit a bad pothole, filed a Police report and as long as the Police consider the pothole to be of danger, the city paid for the damage on the vehicle. 2tone_xB 12-31-2004, 12:20 AM Bummer. :? GOT_JDM 12-31-2004, 03:45 AM [quote=TheScionicMan] GOT JDM, what brand of wheel and tire was it? about dodging potholes. i do the samething. but this certain 1 it was raining hard that morning and the thing was covered with water. 5Zigen ProRacer GN+ tire yokohama paradas ronrika 12-31-2004, 08:17 AM Don't know about other areas but it was reported last year by a local radio station that Oakland County in Michigan will pay for damage caused by a pothole. But there is a catch. You must prove that the County had knowledge of the pothole for at least 30 days prior to your contact with that very pothole. The story ended stating that they did not make a single payment for pothole damage. For those of you familiar with the roads in Southeast Michigan, that a hell of a statement. Potholes here can rip out your suspension not just bend your rims! Good Luck. Yoshii 12-31-2004, 08:47 AM Man i hate pot holes...i have to be really careful now...i have 19's...i can't be hitting any pot holes too quickly or else i can really do some damage to my rims...i am running on rubber bands...:)...and not the thick kind...:D ProtoCulture 12-31-2004, 09:08 AM That's what 17s are for silly! 17s still look way better than any 15s or 16s, still have a bit o' sidewall without the hassle of 18s and 19s. 17s look great if you have nice wheels. Real world driver here... my $.02 komik 12-31-2004, 09:07 PM I was in a car accident at 30 mph once without airbags and was fine. I was in an accident later in a different car with air bags at the same speed... much much worse....Sheesh....I bet your insurance premiums are fun. :? Neither of the accidents were my fault. That's why I kept getting new cars. My tC is my 9th car in 4 years. (Not entirely because of car accidents, btw.) No problems at all! Gotta love steel wheels and 60-series tires! OTOH, as a taxpayer, I question whether the govenment should pay to fix the wheels and tires of people who have intentionally made their cars more fragile and expensive to repair. Potholes are a fact of life and they cannot be filled instantly. Ah, well, I guess that I'm not suited to live in our "what kind of victim am I today?" society. xbxxx 01-05-2005, 02:37 AM I'm glad I'm not the only one! I went by the next day and it was filled in. The tire is ok, took the rim to mag masters today, $65 to repair it. We'll see how it turns out. I got spoiled driving SUV's, you can run over a body and not notice. BTW-I have 17's. IN fact blackcherry808 hit a pot hole today and screwed his tire up.. And yup with 19s im playing dodge a pot hole onthe streets ---------------- You ain't seen nothin' till you've seen the potholes around Western PA. I'll trade your little "bumps" in the road in Hawaii, or California for the "shock busters" we have around here any day. Last year on I-79, a major highway, they towed 2 an hour away off that road alone. Those weren't just bent rims, most of these had their suspension ripped right out. Western PA sux. No wonder Trucker Mag. rated us the worst roads in the country. But most of us can dodge 'em real good. It takes a trained eye to see a pothole filled with snow or water, and still miss it !! ronrika 01-08-2005, 09:28 AM Check out this one in the UK! http://www.bbc.co.uk/wiltshire/travel/potholes.shtml GOT_JDM 01-08-2005, 11:58 AM dodged a couple of potholes friday night on my way to city of carson. can't wait til wednesday when it finally will stop (fingers crossed) raining here in socal. xbxxx 01-08-2005, 05:16 PM I'm glad I'm not the only one! Laura Update- Well the repaired worked great for 2 days until I hit another pothole last night caravaning to IHOP after the SE meet at Longo!! :x Broke the right front and bent the right rear. I was feeling pretty lame until that same pothole took out 6 other cars while we were waiting for roadside. One caused a pretty good 3-car crash. Here they come off the ramp flap, flap, flap, flap, flap. Luckily the SE crew was awesome and stayed to help out myself and others and lent me another spare so I could drive home!! So, I'm looking for two new rims or possibly something different. If you have rims for sale or have any ideas shoot me a PM. I'm running 17's but I'm thinking maybe some 18's. Thanks again to the SE crew, especially Don and Billie, Romeo, Sammy and Family, and everyone who helped out. SE rocks, big time!!! Laura GOT_JDM 01-09-2005, 01:45 PM sorry to hear that xbxx :( |
