before i say more, i have researched this and still am slightly confused. if i get the s-techs, do i need to get struts and shocks? some people say yes some say no. and which shocks/struts are the best choice for these.

if you just want an inch and a half drop get some tein s-techs springs for $200, install them yourself for free, and then use the rest of your money on rims. Then its a win/win situation.

No but it is recommended that you change them out while you are down here.

If you can afford it, it's nice to do it all at once, but not necessary. I've been on S-techs and stock shocks/struts for almost 2 years now. They are just now starting to wear out.

I have got the S techs with factory shocks and struts. Work well, a little bumpy in the back. Will be getting the echo shocks soon.

$200? got mine new/shipped on ebay for best offer of $155.

i think you will like them. they sit low, but not low enough that you need alignment and not low enough that you are scraping on stuff. except for maybe a steep driveway you might scrape a little.

no you dont need new shocks or struts. stock is fine. and please dont pay somebody to install them springs for you. look in the tech section and you can do it yourself. you will really like the ride and height of your box after the drop. i have before and after pics in my profile.

I have been running my s-techs for 3 years now on stock struts and shocks. I do need to replace them soon. But you should have no problem running stock shocks and struts for a while. Be ready for a stiffer ride.

And don't install them if you feel you cannot do it. Spring installs can be dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. Just pay someone to do it, don't risk your life to save a few bucks.

lol how is a spring install on a scion xb risking your life? you must not have done yours. the backs fall right out. the fronts don't compress enough to need a spring compressor.

No I didnt do mine 3 years ago when I was 17, because I didnt trust myself to do it right. Now, I have no problem doing it. Im saying if you feel you cant do it and do it properly, there is no use trying and potentially screwing something up.

oh ok that makes sense. i thought you really thought it was a matter of life or death.

if he has simple hand tools and can follow directions, it really is an easy job. i guess knowing that the cost to install will cost more than the springs and that really irks me. i'd do it for you if you were near me.

I think a big set-up with the shocks and struts are Monroe Toyota Echo pieces. Sensa-tracs, I think.

yeah the spring install is really not hard. but the shops wanted 5-600 bucks for four hours of work. i did it in my garage with one jack and hand tools in just about 2 hours.

Lovin' my s-techs/sensatracs. Kinda wishin' I would've waited and bought Konis....but they're fun. Just installed the Greddy fwd and rear chassis braces....they help a lot too. And no scrapin'!!!

I was also looking at those tein's, but still leaning towards the eibach sportline's which is a 2'' drop... I wonder if that's too much though.
But I was also wondering about a good shock/strut combo with the springs.. might as well do it all at once ya know. Best thing about winter is you have time to buy mods, and come spring you have like 10 things to install. it's great
