Damn TPMS
so as some of you may know i had three of the wheels stolen off my car.
insurance covered most of the cost. so i got the replacement wheels but now when i start the car the TMPS light blinks for one minute and then stays on. I checked the trusty owners manual it says to contact my toyota service dept. Im thinking the sensors in the wheels are not being recognized by the car. Does anyone know for sure?
Yes. the tire pressure is correct as well
I know what the tpms does normaly.this isnt it. Th tpmsight blinks for 60 seconds then stays solid. its in the maual and says contact a toyota service rep just trying to see if anyone knows for sure

wait guys, dont forget he has a 2008 which has the sensors in the wheels where as the ones below 2007 only use the ABS sensors to guess if the tire pressure is low.
you may want to goto the insurance company and let them know, and you will have to get the sensors from the dealer and they will have to be programmed to your tC

Ok I did a search and SquallLHeart had the answer:

if you get new sensors.. it's a waste of money and regardless there is NO WAY that you can reprogram the car's ecu to accept the new sensors.
it requires a special Toyota scantool that is very expensive, and i doubt anyone outside of a dealership would own one.
heh.. even some dealerships i know have to borrow one from another dealership sometimes.
so as stated... it's a lose lose..
you need to transfer the sensors over... it's the best course of action... unless you want to drive with that light on.

It'll run $80 per wheel to get reprogrammed the TPMS sensors to the ECU. Well that's how much it cost to get mine done for when the sensor was broken during the process of getting a tire patched at Sears. At the dealership they need to get the serial off each sensor, so they break the tire down to get it. Then the serials are programmed to the ECU(with a special scan tool) making them recognizable. This is done only when you have a NEW sensor for the wheel, or get another set of wheels that has some already installed. If you get the tires rotated there's no reprogramming needed, just press the reset button in the glove compartment. This applies to tC model years 2007 and on.
