Default Build Log - One Fifteen, No trunk.

Well, the system is built already, but thought some would be interested in seeing my build. This is a copy/paste from a local audio forum I'm on. (www.hawaiicaraudio.net). Enjoy!

Alright, so the HU is in, and the RE SX15D2 is here! Its box time. I'm gonna need some help with it though.
So, I've taken some pictures and done some measurement...
The space available to build a box in is 38.5"x18.5"x19" Pictures illustrate:

The sub is happy in 3-4 cuft, and I would like to tune to 32Hz or so. Cutout is 14", displacement of the woofer is 0.14 cu.ft. If theres there is too much room, I'd like to take maybe three inches off the height, then maybe two from width (18.5"), and then one off the length. If thats not enough, one at a time from the height and width, but length should stay.

Designing a box is freakin' hard... :?

Big mahalo to Peter for helping me through box design :D
Anyway, the box is going to be sub up, port side.
External dimensions 38.5" wide, 18" deep, 17" high -- 3/4" MDF
16.5" x 3.636" port, 60 sq. in.
31.27" long, tuned to around 31-32 Hz
Internal volume - Gross: 5.376 cu. ft.
Port displacement - 1.0857 cu. ft.
Sub displacement - 0.18 cu. ft.
Internal volume - Net: 4.2103 cu. ft

Hope it comes out right! :D

My KnuKonceptz order came in! Boy, this 1/0 is as awesomely huge as I thought it would be. Floppy as a noodle too, I think I could route this bad boy anywhere...

Hmm... Whats the next easiest way to cut 1/0 without a cutter? I'm probably only gonna use it once or twice...
Also, everything is ready to go. Woohoo

So I did one of the Big3 in the time I had today. Alt Pos to Battery Pos. I ended up cutting the cable with a pneumatic cut-off wheel. Works pretty good. As far as crimping, that was done with a hammer and an anvil. Scouted out a place to run the Pos back to the amp. Gonna have to ream out the rubber grommet though, it looks like its made for 18 gauge wire...

Finished the Big 3, looks awesome. Also finished running the RCA to the back. Tomorrow gonna try and run the HU remote wire and the 1/0 Pos to the rear tomorrow, along with the bass **** wire. Looks like the amp might be ready to rock by Sunday, but not the box.

I'll try and snap some pics tomorrow, it was dark when I finished working on it.

You get about 6 more inches of depth if you ditch the spare. ;)

Ok, so the wiring is pau. Just gotta get the box built!
Cut that grommet, shoved the 1/0 through. Maybe should have used lube...

Right through the door sill... Fit perfectly like it was made for 1/0

Took out the back seats so I could route the wires nice and pretty. The car is great, everything snaps in and out. I only needed to unbolt the seat backs.

Ok, so the box is ALMOST done...
Got the sides up, and the port is in, just gotta gotta slap the top and bottom on tomorrow, and caulk em.

I did run into a small problem though... I accidentally glue/nailed the side of the box to the front and back, instead of the front to the sides... Wouldn't have been so bad, except I went nutz with the pneumatic nailer :D :D
So, I had to take that apart, now I have a bunch of holes in the box lmao.

Tomorrow I'll finish it up and let everything dry.

Alright! Finished! Heres a mass collaboration of pics with captions... I hope you enjoy the pics as much as I enjoyed building the system! (Well, aside from the YBS attack...) Comments welcome! :D

Hmm, rounded enough? Nah... back to the router.

Clamp that port in good!

Top & Bottom glued... drying...

Hello Mr. Port

Ze box stands alone... stands proud!

Now thats a box/sub/amp combo package! :D

Yep, looking good...

But does it fit!??!

It sure does! :D

Well, its all done now. I just gotta set my gains. If anyone has an o-scope, let me know, or I'll head on down to Security and Sound Systems when I get a chance... :D

Okay, so I got a Group 31 Yellow Top. I was worried about where I would put it, but it fits perfectly in the ditch under the passenger seat! Its like my car was freaking made for everything I've done so far... This should give a needed boost to my electrical... Now just to do a bit more wiring. buahaha

11/18/08
Hmm, I made a mistake when I was calculating my box.... After some number crunching, it appears that I am tuned to about 29.75Hz, not 32Hz like I planned originally. :wall:

Okay well, thats that. I did install the big optima. No pics of that, but maybe I'll snap some when I get a chance. Also, heres a link to my BIG 3 installation. Thats key for anyone who wants to do a serious installation. (750W or more, IMO)
