View Full Version : manual transmission
chintastictc 01-08-2009, 06:51 PM can someone go out and drive and let me know where each gear tops out at? or make a video...cuz i own a tC and i believe u xb guys have a different gear ratio that the tC allowing you to have longer gears...if im right that will open up a whole new ball game for tCs, and turbo xBs..thanks i hope i get a response soon
DAILYXB-TYPE-R 01-08-2009, 06:58 PM the last time i've check is each gear have the same run as the 1st gen but we just get there a bit quicker
chintastictc 01-08-2009, 07:01 PM compared to a tc....im in 5th gear at 3krpm doung 60 mph...if im assuming correctly at 3krpm you should be around 75-80mph
DAILYXB-TYPE-R 01-08-2009, 08:35 PM more like around 70mph i'll double check it later
so whats yours max mph at redline for each gear?
chintastictc 01-08-2009, 08:39 PM 3rd-80...4th-110...5th-135

tainoxl 01-09-2009, 12:23 AM I'm not sure they are geared any different if the transmission is the same as for model or pn. Also good luck with someone risking a ticket jut to do wot runs and figure out gear ratios. I think a little research on tranmission part number/model would be a better route for comparison. Either way they are still pretty short. Good luck.
chintastictc 01-09-2009, 12:27 AM yeh i did...and i found the final drive is different
tainoxl 01-09-2009, 12:39 AM That sounds about right given the size and utility of the XB2. You may benefit more from a raised rev limit. It all depends what kind of driving are you going to do. If its a better ratio combined with a raised rev limit might be interesting.
twocamvw 01-25-2009, 03:15 PM speedo readings @ 3000rpm
1st/15mph 2nd/27mph 3rd/40mph 4th/55mph 5th/70mph

1st/30mph 2nd/54mph 3rd/80mph 4th/110mph 5th/140mph.
hope this helps
DAILYXB-TYPE-R 01-26-2009, 04:30 AM 3rd-80...4th-110...5th-135

V -124 mph (5000 rpm)

draxcaliber 01-26-2009, 04:51 AM i'm pretty sure the owner's manual tells you the maximum possible speed in each gear.
I thought I heard somewhere that the xB2 governs at 103... is that not true? I got mine to 100 or 101, but not any further. I cant quite remember what rpm I was running at, but it doesnt seem like my second gen will do more than 130 or 135. correct me if I am off please
I thought I heard somewhere that the xB2 governs at 103... is that not true?
Not true, I've had mine over that speed before :lalala:
Zsanz 01-26-2009, 08:55 PM x2

chintastictc 01-26-2009, 09:22 PM thanks guys it looks like only the fifth gear is longer

draxcaliber 01-27-2009, 02:24 AM so the xb2 is drag limited versus the tc being being electronically limited at another 3 mph.
does that mean that the xb2 doesn't have a govenor on it like the tc does?
buickid 01-27-2009, 04:24 AM A long time back there was a thread and I believe the general consensus was that there was a limiter at 127MPH... Something like that
NoLimitzBuilt 01-27-2009, 01:56 PM I have done 125 in mine and still felt like it had more in it.

FTW
That article is really good to have and good information to know! Thanks!!
So it goes at least 125 that we know of so far? I really need to find a spot around ALB, NM where I can get to 125... :lalala:
renegade4x4 01-27-2009, 11:12 PM they prolly changed the govenor on ours to slightly lower. the manufacuers do this because of the type of tires that is on the car and also our xb is not as racy as a Tc.
