View Full Version : What does everyone think of Competition Clutches?
BeQuietAndDrive 01-09-2009, 04:16 PM Hi guys,
I'm an xA owner but there are a million more of you than us, so here I am. What does everyone think of Competition Clutches? I'm looking at getting one as I want to replace my OEM clutch? Specifically I'm looking for quality and longevity, as I won't be putting out more than stock power on it. I'd appreciate any input. Thanks!
enjoithis 01-09-2009, 06:24 PM I love my comp clutch stage 3, handles some hard drops with about 300hp. I have about 10k hard miles on mine. Would buy it again!
engifineer 01-09-2009, 09:44 PM IF you are running stock power.. you dont need it. Run an oem equivalent clutch. The more aggressive the clutch, the harsher launches will be.
davedavetC 01-14-2009, 11:24 PM my tC was stock i put in a stage 2 clutch (disc type) and the 12lb flywheel and it was awesome. noticeable difference over stock, i also had a stage 1 clutch before then) im a CC customer for life. plus their customer service is awesome
B_Real45 01-14-2009, 11:58 PM I'm turbo'd with a Stage4 and I also have their 9lb flywheel.
So far I'm loving the setup. My only complaint is that the 9lb wheel isn't very practical - it makes a ton of noise when decelerating.
Complication 01-15-2009, 05:08 AM Honestly I do not think very highly of their company... I can buy better clutches elsewhere..
B_Real45 01-15-2009, 11:28 AM Please at least explain why?

I don't think that the deceleration noise is a result of the flywheel i think it is the Stage 4 clutch. I have the Stage 4 and stock flywheel with the same noise. Besides the noise I would buy another one.

Good clutches! Made TONS of power on them (over 450whp). A stage 1 or 2 would be ideal for sure.
Stage 1 if your looking for a cheap OEM

Where have ya been man?!
Very good info. I was told it was the lightweight flywheel.
Any idea why it stops after certain rpms? For instance, in 5th gear deceleration, it stops around 2500-3000rpm or so.

They are based here in Atlanta and I'm acquaintances with a few of them. I've had to deal with a few cars that have had their clutches in them and I just don't think they are as high as quality as they could be. The people seem nice enough but they have some quality control issues. I would rather spend my money else where.
That's not to say that they don't make clutches that work. I just think I can spend my time and money else where...
We actually get our clutches custom spec'd now. which has worked out alot better than buying from anyone else because they are designed with a specific application in mind.
engifineer 01-20-2009, 05:58 PM I'm not saying one way or another, but you should probably provide more input than just saying you have dealt with cars that had them.
Did the clutches chatter, slip, engage poorly, fall apart, etc?
garabaldy 09-17-2009, 09:34 PM Well I got my tranny rebuilt in June and while the tranny was out the tech had me look at the clutch. The center rotational springs had rolled the metal case back far enough that the springs were falling out. The surface material was fine and I liked the pedal action of the clutch but it was no way desighed to be a stage 4 clutch. I'm running 14 psi at altitude which is about 310 WHP corrected......
