View Full Version : audio confusion
ForTheGlory 01-10-2009, 09:02 AM right well in my attempts to deafen my self by age 30 i and endeavored to get a pair of duel 10" subwoofers. now, by no means am i a rich man with enough money to buy and annoying expensive set up. I'm pretty much looking to make the thumpy sound in my car louder.
i have found a pair of used 10" pioneer 350 watts rms with 800 watts max.
so my question is a 2 fold one. what sort of amp should i look for if i were to try and power them subs i talked about.
and secondly. i would need a box, obviously. anywhere i can get it painfully cheap? a wooden box going for 130 is insane and I'd sooner buy one.
thank you for putting up with this any help would be great
nodsetse 01-10-2009, 07:57 PM $130 isn't too much if it's a box that's custom fit for the car. If you're just looking for a good enclosure that's generic, you can get one for a LOT less $. Not sure which Pioneers you have (they make so many models), so I don't know their airspace requirements, but maybe this would be a good match;

They've also got a larger vented box for dual 10", as well as sealed & vented for single 10", all too inexpensive to believe...couldn't really make them for less if I built them myself.
For the amp, you really need to provide a bit more info before anyone can give you a definitive answer. Specifically, the voice coil configuration of the subs, and your budget for the amp.
ForTheGlory 01-10-2009, 08:48 PM ahh i see, that's perfect for the box. generic. i like it.
in a change of heart I've decided to look at the site you sent me for subs, the box was reasonable why not the subs? and well i found a few.

PhatTc 01-10-2009, 09:21 PM I know this is going to be bad... But when you get a amp Do NOT going cheap... Plus you need to decided ported or sealed box... And what Ohms you are going to run at & if the subs are going to be hookup in series or series parallel.... I've be doing car sound for 15 years & this place has great prices.....www.sonicelectronix.com/
ForTheGlory 01-10-2009, 09:26 PM by ported and sealed what do you mean and what effects does that have on sound.
and you are using big words, I've no bloody clue what you are saying. I'd love to come up to your level but I've literally minutes of audio experience and am horribly new to this process.
PhatTc 01-10-2009, 09:30 PM I think ported box sounds good in a hatch back car... what else do you need...
ForTheGlory 01-10-2009, 09:32 PM ok, start this from the ground up, using your 15 years of experance, you say ported would sound good in a scion tc. now, for a pair of cheap speakers, say the oens i picked up there, what would you think the best choice for amp would be?
PhatTc 01-10-2009, 09:41 PM Ok you said 10" Pioneers 350RMS ... But 2ohms 4ohms....
ForTheGlory 01-10-2009, 09:42 PM the add is too vague and old for me to rely upon, so I've picked new candidates

ForTheGlory 01-10-2009, 09:57 PM those are nice, what sorta set up would go with those, it'd a decent price and they look well enough.
PhatTc 01-10-2009, 09:59 PM Plus this for the $$$$.... could do more for you how much can you spend....

ForTheGlory 01-10-2009, 10:05 PM so could you explain to me this whole amp business.
and you're positive on everything? no mess ups after this stuff is installed?
PhatTc 01-10-2009, 10:08 PM What do you mean by Amp Business .....
ForTheGlory 01-10-2009, 10:11 PM by that i mean are you wholesomely positive everything here works with the other?
and that amp will go to two subs?
PhatTc 01-10-2009, 10:18 PM It will work nice for you..... If you do not want to blow out your glass... But have nice bass for what 450.00 bucks....
ForTheGlory 01-10-2009, 10:21 PM yeah about that, i just don't want bad things to happen in the back of my car, cause if something explodes I'll be a little less than thrilled.
but thank you very much for your help.
PhatTc 01-10-2009, 10:27 PM Well, just make sure is hook up right & you will be fine.....
