on the freeway? im a little concerned about what stress the engine is having by 60 mph on california roads. or is it having any stress? what speed are you guys "crusing" at? what rpm's?

I so 65 most of the time and between 75 and 80 on the interstate everyday to and from work. RPMs are right at 4000 doing 80 MPH. I worry a little too but it is a Toyota engine so I think it will be alright.

Toyota engines seem to be built to spin, so I don't have any problem with running them at reasonable freeway speeds.

Remember, Briggs and Stratton industrial engines run 3600RPM, day in and day out, and they are hardly as well-engineered and built as a Toyota car engine.

I flow with traffic, cruising anywhere from 65 to 80.

If the revs on your Scion seems high at freeway speeds, then I'm guessing you're used to driving big American iron.

I drive 70-80 mph in Reno, NV very mountaness (Sierra Nevadas). Heading up a mountain I get up to 5k rpm, but not for any extended period.

somewhere just under 80, seems to be comfortable, and still real easy to slow down if coppers in rear view...

By the time I get done going through the gears, I'm going at least 65-70. I have to TRY to keep mine under the speed limit...

It's the cops in front of me on the side of the road with the laser guns that worry me the most.

i normally try and drive around 70-75 on freeways and i'm not worried at all. only time to worry if if u were to run at like 6k for a long period of time.

On the freeway I cruise at anywhere between 75 and 107 mph depending on traffic...I use the rule of thumb of go as fast as you can.

I don't like to take mine much above4k although I have taken it up to 110(don't argue or debate it because that is not the purpose of this thread)

70 - 80 on the freeways... usually can keep between 3k and 3200 rpms

with my exhaust it sounds nice...

Whatever speed I need. Seriously, they planned this stuff out, don't worry about it...

Yeah, what he said. Just keep the oil clean, and maybe change over to synthetic to get a better viscosity, and no crap floating through the engine at such high RPMs.

I usually drive 75-85 mph on the freeway, but sometimes I drive as fast as 90-100+.

I wouldn't worry so much about it. Any new car engine in good working order should be able to run at 80-90% all day long in normal temeperatures day in day out without failure. The run the engines at WOT for extended periods right off the assembly line to help seat the valves and weed out any manufacturing errors.

I've driven to Sedona from Phoenix (a mountainous highway drive, lots of hills) in the summer when it was 90-100 degrees and I was able to maintain 70-90 mph all the way up, with the A/C on and 2 passengers along for the ride.

The engine can be heard loud and clear at 4-6000 RPM, but it's nothing to be concerned about, I promise. That is what the redline is for. Let the engine warm for 30 sec - 1 min, stay out of the red area and you are all set.

No worries. :)

On the freeways around here you have to drive 80 or get runover by all tha SUVS, 4,000 rpm, will get up and go if you need too.

Usually right at 75MPH to and from work, which is 50 miles each way. I have no issues/complaints about noise or high RPMs.

Almost had the Xb to 100MPH the other night. Got it to 95 but then ran out of staight road. :D

oh im no prude when it comes to speed lol. i've taken my box to 125 so yeah lol. it's pretty quick i'm waitin for the pe supercharger and a good head job. and 125 is slow in my book but yeah i just meant that runnin at 6k will show more wear than a motor that is normally ran at like 4k or so.

I drive 70-90 as traffic permits. I sit back and listen to the Ingen air filter and feel no problems. It is a Toyota

It's pure physics: The higher the RPM, the greater the stress.

I keep that fact in mind, but I drive with traffic, and that could mean anywhere between 0 mph to about 85 mph. Most often it's around 78 mph. Afterall, what are you gonna do, drive like a grand mother?

Also, Toyota wouldn't put a car on American soil without considering the "80 percentile" highway speed, which is up to 14 mph above speed limit on the highway/freeway. If one of Toyota's car can't handle this kind of speed regularly, their image would be destroyed.

Don't worry. Drive.

usually what i feel like driving under 3k. i was just second thinking that i maybe should of got a auto instead of a 5speed cause of the gearing ratios. but i've heard that the 5 speed has more response in acceleration. i dont know if this is true or not. someone chime in. hehe..

i also noticed on a manual that driving above 3k though drastically drains my gas. as i am constantly and instantly noticing the gas meter dip.

I have auto and average about 80mph going to work.
My rpms are around 3200 and my mpg is about 25.

If I show down to 65mpg my mpg is around 30.

To and from school I drive around 80 - 85 depending on the traffic in the fast lane. I do these speeds for atleast twenty miles both ways. The Rpms are around 4000 but it seems our little boxes enjoy the high rpms.

I run the highway at 70-80 depending on the flow. The engine shows 3k at 70. The one thing that i don't like is that it seems very easy to bump the auto trans out of O/D with my leg as i cruise. Any one else have that problem?

Hey, I was riding with my friend in her xB when she decided to push the gas to the floor.

We were on an enterance to the freeway, and she somehow reached 7rpms. That freaked me out man. Not the speed but when she reached that rpm. Isn't that bad? I mean she only did it once...

The power band in our car seems to start peaking at 4k-5k RPM, so I wouldn't sweat it dude. Drive it and have fun!

Oh, and I drive like it's sunday @65
