I recently purchased my 2006 Scion xA. It is a 5-speed manual version and the mileage currently is 58300
I drive combined city/hwy with more highway. Average MPG is around 32-34 depending on how hard I drive.
Usually I shift a lot into neutral to save gas when go downhill or when coming to a traffic light and even sometimes on highways if the road is going downhill as well. That helps save a little more gas. My stock filter is very dirty however
I was thinking of getting an Injen short ram intake.
Now my main question is - with it installed what would happen to my MPG? Given that I don't change my driving habits and would 90% of time keep the car below 70mph and not accelerate hard enough to hear the intake sound?
Will I gain a little more mpg now that the filter is new and less restrictions are in place of air coming in?

you fuel economy will increase about 1 or 2 mpg for city driving... if you really pushed it on the highway to can see it in the range of around 40mpg

best i've seen with mine was 38 city, 40 highway but since i very rarely drive like that its more like 35 city 33 highway... heh thats mess up there :roll: haha

anyways the injen SRI is the best on for mpg cause its really a hot air intake cause it just air filter sits right next to the engine soaking up all that engine heat!!! i love it

Only thing is, you will get addicted to the sound of the intake and you will keep your foot in it more.

not unless you listening to some good music you won't hear it then again most ppl listening to good music will have their foot in it anyways heh

ur driving habits will dictate ur mileage but it sounds like ur headed in the right direction. i regularly get between 34 - 40 mpg w/ the intake and exhaust.

and you'll also will benefit from a header and muffler of your choice

i can't really hear mine due to my exhaust that resonates into my car but i can hear the intake when i'm cleaning the snow off my car though... makes a nice ssssssssssssssssssssssssssss... sound

Which sound is better.. the hiss of the intake as it sits there idling, or the sound you get after you shut it off and the motor is still drawing air in?

Damn, I never saw such a dirty air filter. Looks like nobody has changed the filter since the car was bought.
So far I did notice an improvement in throttle response. But I haven't driven the full tank yet so I'm not sure what my MPG will be.
I am in love with the sound when I press the gas :)

you'll notice more of an increase of fuel economy in the summer time then you will in the winter time just a heads up

I had a K&N short ram and went from 32-34 to 26-28. I drove the exact same way I drove without it. More air equals more fuel. The same thing happened to my 03 Focus SVT, 03 Subaru WRX, 04 Suzuki GSXR 1000,and my 01 Audi TT. I lost mpg in every vehicle and never learned my lesson.

I have a Fujita sri, and the butt dyno really tells me the difference! LOL

K&N doesn't come in a sri only cai... if you buy either the injen or fujita sri, its a hot air intake you would see you mpg increase
