View Full Version : Possible Headers
Paintballinkicks 02-02-2009, 02:38 PM I'm developing a plan for where I want to go with my tC. I know that I want a little more power as well as it to sound better, but to keep it sounding reasonable.
I have been leaning towards W-R Secret Weapon Intake with Tanabe Concept G exhaust.
I am considering headers now as well. My concerns are rasp, air/fuel ratio, and CEL (unless there are other problems that I have not heard about yet).
I know that the Weapon R headers eliminate the CEL, but how do they sound with this setup? Would headers + resonator ruin the sound of the Tanabe?
=/ after reading a little bit here and there, I may just go without headers.
XIEmperorIX 02-02-2009, 04:04 PM i heard a header with the concept g doesn't sound to bad..that seems to be the favored setup for that particular header. Check youtube for some vid/sound clips. I have the weapon r with the trd axleback and it sounds fine..i might be selling mine come this summer though so if you haven't purchased one by then keep an eye out for my fs thread :P
KINGxOFxSKA 02-02-2009, 04:19 PM Any (and I mean ANY) exhaust setup paired with a header will sound like crap; I don't care how many resonators you slap on it. But hey, if you wanna sacrafice the tone of your exhaust for a meager few hp, it's your call.
Astoria 02-02-2009, 05:44 PM i cant decide if i like this tone, this is dc headers with borla axleback exhaust. I love my exhaust so far but it is a little quiet. what you think of this?

Don't be so sure.
Paintballinkicks 02-02-2009, 08:06 PM Well, I guess youtube is my savior once again... I was anxious to get written information. ^.^
Anyway, Weapon R Header + Concept G exhaust sounds decent.
If it makes the car sound like rice, I'd definately trash the thought... but if I can find more examples of headers+exhaust that sound good, I may go that route.
If anybody has a setup of WR Headers + Tanabe Exhaust, I'd like another sound clip or video! I'm sure it would benefit other people out there since I have seen this same question get the answer that exhausts don't sound good with headers (on tc).
10PieceNuggets 02-02-2009, 08:15 PM You wont get any noticeable power gains, only sound. So dont expect anything performance wise.
kiss_kiss_kill 02-02-2009, 08:19 PM header + exhaust = raspy & sounds gross =/
HEYitzMEEE 02-02-2009, 08:28 PM You won't notice anything performance wise from weapon-r headers? Are you serious? :-/

this makes me lol
its not much of a difference but there is definitely a slightly noticeable difference.
kiss_kiss_kill 02-02-2009, 08:34 PM Not just Weapon-R, you won't feel a difference with any header, period.
All performance parts need to be tuned to get any power gain.
XIEmperorIX 02-02-2009, 08:37 PM just the header by itself no but after i installed my weapon r the car pulled harder in the higher RPM range. I didn't tune anything and at the time i only had an intake and the TRD exhaust.
like i said though - its not a huge difference
cee_dub2003 02-02-2009, 09:40 PM I would bet that if you were t o go to the 1/4 mile strip and run your TC with OEM intake and run a few passes and then take your car back to the pits and change it to an aftermarket intake and take a few passes you will see a difference in the times. Now if you then go back and put on the Weapon-R header and run the car again Im pretty sure you will see and feel a difference.
Our intake and header will make about 20hp and over 20 tq.
HEYitzMEEE 02-02-2009, 10:21 PM header + exhaust = raspy & sounds gross =/

And not to sound mean, but if you dyno a stock tC and a tC with I/H/E, you're saying you won't see higher numbers without a tune?

And who wouldn't feel 145 to the wheels as opposed to... let's say... 170?
Paintballinkicks 02-03-2009, 01:52 AM I know that you will definitely get a bit out of power... and that little bit may increase slightly with a tune, but its that rhaspy sound that I want to avoid. If I can find more instances of that tc that HEYitzMEEE posted (RS4?)... Then I will probably get weapon r headers....
:) Thanks for the help everybody!
Crayola_G 02-03-2009, 01:55 AM Headers + resonator + High flow cat + muffler sounds nice, thats what i did when i was all motor, and it performed great (ur an idiot if you run catless N/a...sounds like balls and you have 0 backpressure)

I had I/H & felt no difference, maybe it's just me..
BZinn1 02-03-2009, 03:26 AM Car will increase in power but not enough to make much noticed in physical gains.
Right now I have Weapon r intake,Weapon r header, custom 2.5 midpipe with high flow cat and 24" of resonators, then 2.5" pipe the rest of the way to the can which is Apexi......I have noticed gains in power, but nothing to write home about.
I did the mods to the car for looks to the way the engine bay looked and to how it sounded........I like to mod cars.Next power wise is NST Pullys......but to be honest it is not much faster than it was before, maybe at best half a second in the 1/4 mile......lot of money for half a second. But I am building the car for my wife and it is mainly for car shows and to have fun modding.
ecko04 02-03-2009, 03:37 AM Go I/H/E and If you get rasp, if you think its ricey, if you think its too loud there is a simple solution and it comes in the form of an Aero 25 or Vibrant Unltra Quiet resonator. Add either one of those to your setup and it will sound sweet!
