it seems to me that logically, you would gain better gas mileage from putting headers on your car, for the same reasons exhaust and intake help the mileage. However, i have heard from several people that they lose mileage. Can anyone tell me for sure if u gain or lose mileage?

Secondly, which header do you recommend? It looks like the DC headers give the most horse power or can you get a cheaper brand and do the same thing?

Lastly, if your mileage does decrease, do you think its worth the trade off of hp for mileage?

My mileage decreased a tad because with the mods came a lead foot. but if I take it easy, I still get 30+mpg at around 75-80 mph.

thats what i was figuring.. it was more of the use of the hp that decreased the mileage. :wink: but that if u drive normal u should still get good mileage

hey kellen all the headers produce the same hp within like .75 of a horse. i'd say save yer money and gen a next gen megan racing one. i love mine but it was a first gen ( had probs cuz it was brand new) they look great and almost half the price of the dc . doesnt really matter which both arent carb legal. i'm gonna fab up a fake heat sheild to "hide" mines . the megan racing ones can be found for 135 shipped off of ebay. but i'm not knockin the dc's they are a great company with great products but in this instance theyres the same gain with a lil more bling on the megan side of things so yeah whatever u choose u know i'll do the install for ya. cheap cheap

Sorry VIET BOX, but the DC is not carb legal. :sad: It even says in the box "for off road use only." But I am sure no one is gonna look back there for a header anyway. The DC is a great way to get some extra umph in the start off though. My DC feels great and have had no problems with it. Yes, the gas milage goes down, but thats because I have a heavy foot. Ease up on the gas and you shouldn't lose too much gas milage. :D

How come all the people selling the dc header on ebay say its 50 state carb legal. Also dcsports.com say all there stuff is carb legal except the racing headers? I trash my box already so i cant look at it now, but i never notice it saying for off road only.

Maybe because there aren't any emission fittings on it?

On the headers for our car, there would be a CA stamp on it with some numbers after it. I don't understand why they just don't make it carb exempt, but I guess it might be red tape. :sad: The carb exempt would also be listed in the books of the smog stations, they have a huge book on what headers have the exemption numbers.

I'll let you know in 4 years or so.

it will pass emission/tailpipe but fail visual. i say if the car passes tailpipe who cares whats under the hood. but that's just me.

Right, and that might equal a reduction in gas milage 1) you like to hammer it and 2) you need to hammer it to get more low end power in stop and go. But, Gabe said it's great for start off.. so I'm confuddled.

top end i'd say over 3k

So let me get this straight.. you lose power and mileage... why would you want them?!

u might lose like 1ft lb tq in the lower rpms
u gain power and tq across the band. mostly mid to high range

I put El Prototype's headers on the xA and mpg didn't change a bit.
I also put them on my echo (+intake +muffler) and when my fiance (slower driver) takes it she can get close to 42 mpg and it's A/T. I only get about 34 mpg with my driving, but it's alot more fun and a lot less highway.
