Hatch not closing in freezing temps!
Anyone have a problem with their rear hatch no closing in really cold weather? Kinda sux to have to drive with a door that wont close when its cold. Only way to fix it was to heat the lock mechanism up with a blow dryer! Obviuosly the mechansim sticks internally hence not latching onto the bolt. Anyone else have this issue and know of a remedy (what did the dealer do in your case) ? EVerything else looks pretty good and the hatch seems to be aligned corretly as well.
I live in cold climate too, and I haven't noticed any problems. If heating the latch mechanism works, try tossing some WD40 on it. Is it possible some water or snow got down in there? If all else fails, take it back to the dealer, it will probably be under warranty.
I had this problem too. We had to take the car to a friend's garage and let it heat up.
If you open the hatch all the way and look up under it you will find a little square panel that you can pop off that will let you see the trunk latch mechanism. You could hit it up with some oil or something... because of what WD-40 does over time personally I wouldn't use that, but some oil couldn't hurt it... just make sure you're careful about where you put it - don't get it on the plastic - and don't get it on any of the electronics.
I just avoid opening my hatch in the cold weather... it's full of stereo equipment anyway so there's no point in getting in there.
I can't fit anything in there anyway. hehe

Cold weather effects all cars. It's not a Scion thing.. Here is something simple that you can keep in your glove box for the winter... You can probably find it at your local auto parts store...
