View Full Version : 06 xB broken whindshield
NuBiker 02-08-2009, 02:19 AM Hi folks,
Last Friday, a rainy day, I parked my xB in my driveway - sun came out, then two hours later when I went to the car, I have a foot long crack on the drivers side.
I have never dealt with a broken windshield.
Should I take it to the dealer, or look for one of those guys who drive out to you and replace the glass at your home/place of businees.
I have 1000 dollar deductable insurance, so I am paying for this out of pocket.
Any advice is appreciated.

kewlbox 02-08-2009, 02:25 AM look for the guys that drive out and replace it at your home/buisness. Most likely the dealer will use the same guys.
that is a crazy deductable for glass replacement, mine is $50.
bigskyscion 02-08-2009, 04:42 AM I have had good luck with Safelite Auto Glass. They have fixed minor windshield cracks in both Montana and California (at my home and at their place) as a result of rock chips and replaced a drivers' side window after a break-in at my home. The prices have been reasonable and the work has been good. They will even use Toyota OEM glass (if that is a concern) at your request. Not a plug...just my experiences. Thanks.
firesquare 02-08-2009, 04:58 AM what kind of insurance do you have where just to get your windshield replaced cost 1000? ask again . windshields don't cost that much anyways unless its a Lumina van or a BMW
m0nk3y 02-08-2009, 02:06 PM We have 2 xB's and both of them had the same problem... I think the OEM glass might be a little under stress when installed. Anyways, up here in Canuckland, we took 'em both times to a place called SpeedyGlass, and a got a new windshield for $150CAD installed, which is fantastic since most stuff I need to get has a bit of an 'oddball'/import markup on it since there's maybe 6-7 xB's here in Ottawa. The new glass I have is stamped 'PPG' and I find it to be *much* better than the original, both in resisting stone chips and also the auto-breaking issue.
GL!
NuBiker 02-08-2009, 04:20 PM Thank you all for your replies!!
I will get the ball rolling on Monday.
brownfaux 02-08-2009, 04:23 PM Both my windshields were free, through Safelite. They will tell you to pay the deductable, but just whine and say everyone else gets it waived and you'll go somewhere else if they dont wave it.
Raiders1960 02-08-2009, 11:15 PM Same crap happened to me. I took my car to the dealer and they said that there was no point of contact. Which means the crack wasn't caused by an object to the windshield. It was smooth as can be. Said it was a stress crack which was covered under Toyota warranty. Dealer said that has been a problem with 2006 xB's. So if you don't feel any chips or nicks in the windshield, then it's a stress crack. And yes they sublet a local company to come out and repair. Take it to the dealer bro.
NuBiker 02-08-2009, 11:37 PM Hey Mister Raiders,
That describes it perfectly !!
No chips in the glass. The crack does not go all the way through the glass.
I will take it to the dealer on Tuesday.

vettereddie 02-10-2009, 07:32 PM Yup, same thing happened to me. Was at a stop light, and all of a sudden I see a hairline crack start to form, and it continues to just grow across the windshield. Took it to the dealer, said it was a stress crack. They inspected it and claimed there was a small pit under the rubber on the edge (I didn't feel anything) but they still replaced it under warranty. Not sure if it's only for the 3 yr/ 36k mi basic one though, I'm still under that. if you have more miles, you may be in trouble.
