Just wondering why a few members selling parts in the classifieds are wanting an extra 3-3.5 percent for paypal fees? I have sold almost a thousand dollars worth of parts on scionlife and all buyers have paid with paypal. I have never asked for more money because of paypal fee's. If they offer paypal as a payment method I think that they should eat the fee for receiving that payment, not the buyer. But thats just me... What do you think about this?

It's kind of like major stores... when you use anything but cash they are charged some sort of fee, but they eat it. They know if they charged extra they would lose customers & money.

But when you scale way down, the little guy doesn't have enough sale volume (usually) to keep eating that 3%.

So I can't blame them for doing it, as long as they know it's effecting sales. But more often than not I just see it on peoples posts when their selling a few things and they don't make a habbit of selling stuff.

Eff that. I generally charge +3% to cover the fees. I consider it a more secure way of payment for the buyer. The buyer is then protected. Money orders can get lost, personal checks are a no-go... paypal is quick and secure.
I don't have any problem either charging or paying that 3%.

I guess people figure whichever way they get paid, they want the price they are asking for. Say someone pays cash for their exhaust, $100. Or say they sold it to someone using Paypal, they would lose $3. I think people just expect to get the exact asking price regardless of the way the transaction took place.

yea, so do I. I feel its the price to pay for using the service. Others don't though. I dont feel that its that big of a deal though.

paypal wouldnt exist without the service fee, that is how they make their money and stay in business.

the employees working in customer support, fraud protection, the encrypters for the paypal website all get paid through various fees that paypal makes people pay.

at the end of the day its just business.

as far as im concerned there is no issue with charging the fee. Its up to the buyer to decided if they want to pay it or not

When I sold a lot on ebay, I would just include that into the Shipping and Handling price. Handling means any additional fees, like packaging, my time, gas, paypal fees, etc...Of course it's has to be reasonable like say packaging costs $2 and paypal fees are $3 and shipping a radio was $15 you would just charge total of $20 for shipping, which is reasonable. If someone wants to argue with you about the shipping cost, just remind them they can always go to the Dealership and pay their price :lalala:

what i do is add that 3% into my price so no PP fees are needed

Just be careful... if someone reports that you charged a fee for using Paypal, they will boot you, it is not allowed! Smarter to post your parts for sale by saying $105.00... Discounts for cash! PM me for details! Then give a %3 discount for your cash customers. Good Luck!

it wouldn't be to fair to charge a local buyer more money, would it?
