Default Why the xB might appeal to us old geezers too!

Hello all. I just purchased an '05 xB in Polar White this past Monday from Right Scion in Scottsdale, AZ. We drove onto the dealer's lot in my '01 Hyundai Sonata and within 3 hours we drove off with a new xB.

The Right Scion dealership was a pleasure to deal with. Not only was everyone courteous and helpful (well the finance guy was just a bit pushy), but they had the model I wanted (Polar White xB), the transmission (Manual), and the two options i wanted (alloy wheels, and cargo cover). They gave me a great price on the trade-in. The interest rate of 4.7% is very competitive. I've bought many new cars over the years, and my best buying experience was last year when we bought my wife's Mini Cooper. But my experience buying the xB has surpassed even that!

I know that the Scions are marketed towards teens and tweens, but some of us "old geezers" (40+ range) might find the xB appealing. From the moment I first saw the xB, I knew that I had to buy one. I hadn't felt that way since I bought my first Suzuki Samurai in '87 and before that, when I would go driving with my grandfather in his '57 ****** Wagon.

There's a certain segment of the buying public in every generation that is attracted to economic, boxy, utilitarian vehicles. There hasn't been anything close to the xB since the Samurai. (Jeep Wranglers don't qualify... they're too refined and too pricey).

So don't be surprised if you see more and more of the AARP crowd tooling around in xBs.

My "box"

I know the whole scion thing is to target a younger crowd, but a car is a car, it doesnt care how old the person driving it is. So I wouldnt sweat it. If you like the car, thats all that matters.

my 90+ year old gram loves it because it's so easy to get in and out of. I almost had a mini and a xB in the driveway too, but I ended up with two xb's. (I'm not a geezer yet, though). I had a friend that had a samuri in like 92ish. Death traps. OMG that thing was scary, but to be fair, my friend was a terrible driver (Sorry, Mike.. it's true).

Nah, Samurais weren't deathtraps... they WERE the most fun you could have on 2 wheels though. ;)

Before people think I'm Methusela or something, I'm 42... an "old geezer" by Scion standards.

You are as old as you feel....quick! Find an 18 year old and feel them!

Kidding, with the joke, I am. I'm 40 and love the Box. It is easy to get in and out of...plus, it's just so damn cool. And fun to drive.
My only problem with the car, is being afraid that the twit in the SUV behind me is not going to see my brake lights and smash me all dead.

Or at least pain.
But heck, that could happen in my Beetle as well.

Oh, and get used to people asking you, "What is that?"

There are a lot more of us Olde Fartes around than the youngsters like to think! The xB may be marketed to the kids, but it's _made_ for us!

It parks easy, it carries two kids without them whacking on the seatbacks, and it carries a couple of weeks' worth of groceries at one time. My wife finds it the perfect ballet-mom transport and she lets me play with it too!

Me too. Add another member to the "Ole Guy Club". The xB is the perfect second car for me. Heck, it would be the perfect only car, if need be, for that matter.

I agree... It's a the perfect family vehicle.
Being a single parent on a limited budget (her mom's a dead beat)
I was able to get a great, reliable, roomy, family car that Dad can still have fun with.

The best part is my daughter loves it.
She always tells her friends "My Daddy's car is soooooooo cool"

I am 43 years young and had to have the BOXCAR as soon as i laid eyes on it, great ride, luxury to the max after 6 yrs of driving 87 samurai( which was also a great vehicle but had lived a long life).

I'll turn 50 when my xB turn 1 this year.

That means I'm in the AARP crowd soon.

What is not to love about the xB, its inexpensive, reliable, roomy (a must for golfers),
easy to work on, and different. :D

Age is not a factor in taste.

P.S. Boxcar - My other car is and 96 Tracker, you have good taste in cars.
