Default You wont believe my warranty story

05 xB, 56,000 miles, 4 years and 2 months old.
WR Intake manifold, Ebay header, ebay intake, Precision muffler axleback

Started hearing what I thought was valve noise, after a bit of time the engine just quit. Had it towed to a local dealership, and told them I think I screwed the engine, I'll just buy a new car, trade in the xB. After looking around, one of the used car managers asks me if it's under warranty. I tell him no, and besides, I thought the aftermarket parts had voided it. He said, well why dont we try to get you covered first? (I then realize our warranty goes until 60K.)

So a week later I have given the guys all my maint. records, (THANK GOD I KEPT THEM) and new engine parts start showing up at the dealership.

They told me I spun a rod bearing, and then metal fragments spread through the engine ruining everything. The reason I never noticed anything wrong, is that I hardly ever drive the xB anymore. I drive a V8 crown vic 4 days a week, to and from work, and during work. I was so used to the torque, that I didnt notice the xB losing power so badly.

I got an entire new engine. They even put my powdercoated parts back on, and my aftermarket stuff back on. Also, while the engine was out, I bought a TRD clutch, and they put it in with no labor charge.

This is Menlove Toyota/Scion in Bountiful Utah.

EXCELLENT GUYS!

Just wanted to share, there is hope out there for us with modified engines that have things go wrong that aren't our fault!

ya, the mechanic is getting a bottle of Jack Daniels, the service manager didnt want anything, but for me to walk out of there with a smile. So he;' been taken care of already.

Oh and it's true, lol. The car runs so much better now I feel like an idiot for not noticing the loss of power. I'll trow up pics, but im in the middle of some mods so it's not in it's presentable form.

you must have gotten the extended warrenty to get 60 months, the standard is 36 months / 30k miles.

Read your warranty booklet.

Basic (bumper to bumper) 3 yr / 36k mi
Powertrain 60 mo / 60k mi
Restraint system 60 mo / 60k mi
Corrosion resistance 60 mo / unlimited mi

Powertrain covers the engine, transmission, and front-wheel drive system. He was still under the factory warranty period.

Your dealer was awesome. I had a piston rod brake and the dealer said the TRD cold air intake caused it, which conveniently did not have a warranty (for 2006 only!, 2004 - 2005 are covered through TRD) I wish my dealer was even 1/8 as nice as that one. At least I was only out $750 ($500 for toyota to do teardown and tell me it wasn't covered, $250 for a used block, self-install)

i was expecting this to be about someone complaining they were denied because of aftermarket parts, but great job on the dealer.

Good to hear that there are GOOD dealerships out there.
NOT ALL are "stealerships" as some of you call them...

Good for you! It is nice when you get a deal from the stealership.

Yeah I'm on Utahscions.com I didn't actually see the interior, as it was up in the air when I cruised underneath it. Bring it in on Saturdays, for a carwash.
