Tc4Eva 02-22-2009, 05:08 PM Not to threadjack, but does this hood have a vent? or is it only for looks?
MillerRS1 02-22-2009, 05:10 PM awesomen thankyou wondered what it was and np maybe sumtin u need will help me
Joyride 02-22-2009, 05:11 PM It has a vent haha
DJ08tC 02-22-2009, 05:13 PM MillerRS1 I think that is a pretty good deal. The Kaminari site have them for $495 before shipping. The shipping would probably put you back up to the $700s.
Tc4Eva it actually has a vent.
Tc4Eva 02-22-2009, 05:31 PM Ok kool, one more ? do most CF hoods that dont look oem come vented?
Joyride 02-22-2009, 05:35 PM CF hoods come in all shapes and sizes. All you have to do is just look around and youll find one that is your style.
Jlowe 02-22-2009, 05:47 PM http://www.andysautosport.com/scion/2005_9999_tc/exterior/hoods/carbon_fiber_hoods/
There are some different ones here.
Tc4Eva 02-22-2009, 10:50 PM Well I kno about that site, was jsut wondering if all of them were vented.
DJ08tC 02-22-2009, 10:54 PM No they are not all vented, there are a few that are vented or you have the OEM style that do not have vents.
CSOCSO 02-22-2009, 11:00 PM make sure u dont get the knock offs...
my friends kaminari looks identical compared to my kami hood, but he's hood is much lighter and feels much more week and from the bottom he doesnt have that nice and smooth metal sheet what i have. hes hood from underneath looks like they just painted the bare fiberglass or something.
but both of our hood needed trimming : spacers at the latch and the side. but he's hood fits HORRIBLE anyway
MillerRS1 02-22-2009, 11:51 PM ooo good thing u said that i wudnt knowif you buy off line how would you know?
BZinn1 02-23-2009, 12:38 AM You can purchase directly from Kaminari, figure with shipping on the hood,no matter where you get it it will be around $700-800 shipped to your door total cost.
Seibon also makes very good quality hoods, both in non vented OEM look and vented.
There are a few other hoods out there that are nice but the quality usually is not the best and over time they yellow and crack or do not fit right.
You really do get what you pay for.Kaminari hood is one of the nicest ones on the market, but it is expensive, mine has been on around a year now and still is in new condition.Vent gets header heat out,and the rain really does not hit the motor at all inside through the vent, the Seibon Vented hood is higher and water can hit the motor, making it dirty pretty quickly.
alexxxforbes 02-23-2009, 01:03 AM I got my Kaminari hood straight from Kaminari. No issues at all. It ended up being 700 something and it fit pretty much perfectly. I love it.
scion_jon 02-23-2009, 04:31 AM I had ordered mine from www.showstoppersusa.com for $535 plus free shipping. Mine was fiberglass, the carbon fiber is a lil more but also free shipping.

MillerRS1 02-23-2009, 07:48 PM alright cool i think ima buy it right from them they want 250 to ship a lil greddy tryn to see if i gt it cheaper if i ship to a business we'll c
jefffribourg 02-23-2009, 08:03 PM wha does the vent actually do?
flintMicaTC 02-23-2009, 08:06 PM it supercharges your car instantly! lol
it helps all that hot air get out, and lets cold air get in...
scion_jon 02-23-2009, 08:07 PM helps hot air escape
MillerRS1 02-23-2009, 08:17 PM does having a vent matter in the rain?
Tc4Eva 02-23-2009, 09:40 PM Doubt it, might make the bay a little more dirty, I need a vented hood, to vent out the heat of the charger. lol. Taking donations to the Get Tc4Eva a CF Hood Foundation. : )
raa-raa 02-23-2009, 09:52 PM My engine bay stays pretty clean with my kaminari hood. The vent is no problem in the rain either.
BZinn1 02-24-2009, 01:06 AM water from the vent falls directly to the ground, never touches the motor,I live in Washington state and it rains 340 days a year here......trust me it is gonna be fine in the rain.....
Joyride 02-24-2009, 01:46 AM Its fine, if you are really picky you can always close it up
mattTc 02-24-2009, 01:58 AM watching
have been thinking about eventually getting a CF hood, wanna see how it looks on an RS1
CSOCSO 02-24-2009, 03:45 AM actually the vent is above the radiator.
BZinn1 02-24-2009, 03:55 AM ^ yeah it is pretty much huh........
MillerRS1 02-25-2009, 01:37 AM Okey thx everyone

youngflyer 02-25-2009, 05:20 AM oh by the way i think andysauto whatever is on kaminari's list of vendors not to buy from
I hope you know..if your ever planning to boost that some turbo kits dont fit with this hood. And I highly doubt the shipping of this hood will be 200 dollars

i'm thinking this hood will not work for dezod s1 and TT simple kit since their have log style mani..but ptuning and TT 2.1 should fit...right?
ExpresScion 04-04-2009, 03:11 AM does having a vent matter in the rain?
Water will actually build up right in front of the vent and doesn't really go in unless it overflows. Either way, the water that does get in doesn't fall in a spot that would hurt anything.

Mkay thanks I'm glad I didn't order one yet I'm on temporary leave with no pay the problem with working in manufacturing
ExpresScion 04-04-2009, 03:23 AM That sucks man. When you do order it, you won't regret it.

I know you gota watch what turbo you get some dont fit with this hood but im sure you can black the vent
Carlanga 04-04-2009, 04:15 AM has anyone been successful with a TT 2.1? Is either this or VISII which look pretty decent, just don't know anything about VIS quality.
davedavetC 04-05-2009, 12:17 AM Not to threadjack, but does this hood have a vent? or is it only for looks?
wha does the vent actually do?
wow.... ar eyou 2 serious?
scion_jon 04-05-2009, 12:18 AM dave, this is SL ofcourse they are serious.

It doesn't come with one, you would have to fab something.
BZinn1 04-05-2009, 08:08 PM water cover is not needed as ther is nothing for it to hit through the vent,it falls in the radiator area, misses everything in the motor,my motor does not get dirtier even then it did withhte stock hood.
driftkingtc 04-05-2009, 10:41 PM Just put my hood on last week, fits perfectly. But had to put some washers behind the latch plate on the hood. Wouldnt latch, so that wut i had to do. Bought it from Kaminari.com, for $558 shipd :)

did u put ur washers on or did u take it somewhere
driftkingtc 04-05-2009, 11:24 PM I did it myself. All u gotta do is unbolt the latch, so like 4 bolts. Latch pops right off, then i put 2 washers on each bolt, and placed them behind the plate. Then bolted them back on, then BAM! Latchd lik a champ. :)
MillerRS1 04-05-2009, 11:28 PM o wow i thot u meant like the washers to wash the front window with haha shoulda read slower but yeaa that makes sense
driftkingtc 04-05-2009, 11:32 PM Lol, yea i dont have any washer fluid nozzels on my hood. I dont feel lik cutn into my hood to do this. Ill put up with it, dont really need it that bad. If it gets dirty ill stop at a gas station n wash my windshield. And in winter imma throw back on my stock hood. So im good.
driftkingtc 04-05-2009, 11:33 PM And..
I wouldnt reccommend anyone to do it urself, unless u are a professional and have balls to cut into ur brand new hood.
MillerRS1 04-05-2009, 11:38 PM thats what i was thinking lol
Carlanga 04-06-2009, 03:15 AM $558 carbon fiber? Once again, has anyone tried this on a TT 2.1?
driftkingtc 04-07-2009, 05:23 AM yea carbon fiber
Carlanga 04-07-2009, 12:34 PM TT 2.1 anyone???
Joyride 04-07-2009, 04:10 PM Ah its going to be tight. The 2.1 still has the snail mani correct?
If so, you better get some heat sheild and OD on the hood. That mani is awfully close to the hood. It will yellow the hood, and waste 800 dollars.
This is the reason why im going ptuning cuz of their EL mani that goes down and not up.
Hope that helps. It fits, but its risky to damage a wicked hood.
Joyride 04-07-2009, 04:12 PM And..

I did it, turned out fine. Took me 3 hours to do it, but it came out great. Made a template drilled a pilot hole, then i filed the rest.
ExpresScion 04-07-2009, 04:56 PM There is no way in hell I will ever cut my hood for stupid washer nozzles. I don't even like the indentations there, but there isn't much I can do about it.
Joyride 04-07-2009, 05:17 PM Neither would i lol. My dad made me do it. hahahaha
driftkingtc 04-07-2009, 05:44 PM lol ur crazy
BZinn1 04-07-2009, 11:08 PM honestly get a good new bit,use the indentions on the hood as a template, blue tape the area around the hole, drill hole, file the bow tie shape and fit nozzle in,on the under side get 3/4bit and drill out hole where nizzle is gonna go and drill it so tubing can fit to nozzle, put 3/4rubber grommet on hole and install tubing.....good to go.....takes about 2-3 hours to do a good job.
driftkingtc 04-08-2009, 12:30 AM I dont have the balls to do that to my new hood.. I would for sure f**k sumthin up.ha
CSOCSO 04-08-2009, 12:37 AM messing up the CF hood FTL!!!!

Ya I was serious. I kno that some hoods dont come with vents on some of the other cars out there, so I was just wondering cuz i couldnt tell from the pics on the websites.
tc4joe 04-16-2009, 04:37 PM My hood came with a slip saying to buff out any scratches with 1000 grit paper and buff like crazy. Then it mentioned something about shooting a clear coat on for the best finish.
How are you guys running the hood? Did you get the clear coat? If you didn't, does it get discolored and chip easily? :nails:

correct me if im wrong but i remember reading something about having a dezod turbo kit and that you should get a kami hood cause it wont close.
Joyride 04-16-2009, 11:23 PM If you have a Dezod Kit. The Kami hood will not work nor close.
Only ones that fit is Custom and ptuning.
TT will fit too, but not recommended since the snail mani is about .5'' away from the hood. Which will cause melting/yellowing = epic fail.

Didnt clear mine yet. Looks fine still. Its recommended though. If you leave your car out in the sun all the time, then yes you should get it cleared.
ExpresScion 04-17-2009, 12:00 AM The hood comes with a gel coat, which will hold up. I'm not clearing mine because I've heard of the hood yellowing due to clear.

Doesn't that Cynce Tester Chick have a Kami Hood with a Dezod Kit?
BZinn1 04-18-2009, 01:04 AM yes she did but I thought her manifold was not the stock Dezod manifold also, seems it sat down further.......she is not on here anymore so it will be hard to ask her what they did to get it all to fit.
DJ08tC 04-18-2009, 03:30 AM I don't know whoever needs to know should pm her because I have seen her make some recent posts. I think she stops by sometimes.
BZinn1 04-18-2009, 04:09 AM yeah give her a PM she will answer if she gets it,she is no longer at the phone number I have for her,so it does not do much good for me to call her.....or I would and get the answer to the question.

my Dezod s1 fits just fine with this hood.... *shrug*
Joyride 04-20-2009, 09:36 PM Strange, heard multiple stories of it not fitting lol.
edit - with a decent amount of clearance.
CSOCSO 04-21-2009, 02:13 AM i got noise problems for months now!!! i realized its not my suspension its my hood!!!!!!!!!!!
i will make a vid soon.
Joyride 04-21-2009, 02:29 AM Something loose? lol
CSOCSO 04-21-2009, 02:35 AM Something loose? lol
im not sure what is is exactly
i did tightened up EVERYTHING i could 4 bolts which holds the hood.. the latch the nuts holding the grill.. nothing helped
then i bought my new sub and when i listened on max power i walked around the car and i heard the same high pitched noise coming from the front bumper/hood
so i played around with the hood stoppers but didnt help.
now if i reach under the bumper and i start yank it up really hard and fast i does the noise just where the bumpers rubber meets the hood or its the latch. not sure which one. its really annoying because i can hear the noise even when i go over a penny!!!!
MeatRocket 04-21-2009, 06:02 PM The hood comes with a gel coat, which will hold up. I'm not clearing mine because I've heard of the hood yellowing due to clear.
who said that? kaminari actually recomends to do it.
CSOCSO 04-24-2009, 04:23 AM yes its official.. the latch was making noises! i will make some photos soon.
so if anyone have a high pitched noise from the front inspect your latch very good for some scratches probably its touching together.
scandalous 05-11-2009, 09:53 PM I'm still around every now and then. I usually search my name occasionally to see if anyone mentions me or whatever (which is how I came across this thread)
I did have a regular Dezod manifold and the Kaminari hood. There's was no issue of fitment with the manifold itself, but the fitting circled below in the picture did rub a pretty big gouge on the underside of the hood.

Ace83 05-11-2009, 09:55 PM hmm good info, maybe a lower profile fitting should solve that
jiggadomino 10-01-2009, 01:45 AM sorry to revive this thread
but does anyone know if there is a hood vent cover available?
i live in seattle and it rains a lot
don't want my stuff to rust or get wet so sometimes i'd like to plug up the vent to the hood. so anyone sell one?
MeatRocket 10-01-2009, 03:33 AM not really, but im sur you could have someone make you a solid peice. its secured by 2 screws.
UTI_superwhite 10-01-2009, 03:52 AM that hood looks really good on any tc my friend has it on his rs1 and its built really good no imperfections.....good choice
CSOCSO 10-01-2009, 04:29 AM there is no cover for the vent but u dont need one. and nothing would get rusty.

No need to worry the water that passes through just falls between the header and the radiator, nearly nithing touches the motor....two years with hood on Cindys car and still spotless under the hood.
