View Full Version : Xb spark plugs....who should i beleive?
BlackBox06 02-24-2009, 06:22 PM Ive read quite a few posts on spark for the xb. i just got my ngk iridiums and am wondering which gap i should use. manual says .032-.034, other folks are saying .044.....which one is it!? any help would be great. not really worried about gas mileage....i do however like to give the local civic drivers a run for there money
burstaneurysm 02-24-2009, 07:12 PM The preferred gap is .044.
Don't think that putting spark plug in will suddenly make your car super fast though.
MadMike550 02-24-2009, 07:16 PM the iridiums come pre gapped..I was told at the auto parts store not to gap them
I'm old school so..this was tough for me
only got to use them for about 5k miles before the box got tot wrecked though
frogbox 02-24-2009, 07:29 PM Look at the part number on the plugs ,
If the number ends with an 11 , .44 is the gap ( Prius plugs)
If it doesn't end in 11 , then go with the .32 gap
2004 to 2007 scion xb iridium plug according to ngk are to be gapped at .32

Sciond 02-24-2009, 08:18 PM .044 and I have over 80,000 miles on mine....and no hp gains btw.....
IH8ONYU 02-24-2009, 08:55 PM japan bb ecu (1 o2 sensor) gap = 0.44
us xb ecu (2 o2 sensors) = gap 0.32
Or maybe my info is reveresed, can't be positive as i haven't checked in a while.. Yer best bet is to go by the specs in the owners manual, or use the specs provided at ngk.com.
Your owners manual is correct.
Also, it is never a good idea to gap irridum plugs, because the electrode tip is so small and fragile, it is very easy to break, thats why they come pre gapped, unlike traditional plugs that have a stonger and larger electrode tip which can stand some pressure put on it.
If you know what you are doing and know what can break if you are not careful, you could gap irridums, but why bother because they come pre gapped :)
SciRunner 02-24-2009, 10:15 PM 2004-2005 xB: 0.044 gap
2006 xB: 0.032 gap (0.031 in manual)
Sciond 02-24-2009, 10:26 PM th e iridium's can be gapped at least the denso's can be
Darkcrush 02-24-2009, 10:38 PM The NGK are pre-gapped, although I checked mine to make sure they were to spec.
You will not see any HP gains, though if your old plugs were corroded then you may feel more snap once the engine is getting the proper spark.
My fuel economy remained unchanged as well, but my idle smoothed out.
Good luck and enjoy!
swornthug 02-24-2009, 11:38 PM thanks guys for the info.... been needing to change my sparks.
sabiansdrum 02-25-2009, 01:35 AM yeah they are supposed to come pre-gapped but all 4 of mine I just got were off, so I gapped them. Just don't touch the center electrode you're good to go.
I have never put a plug in a car w/o making sure it's gapped right first.

You have better luck taking your sub out of your car if you want to go faster. But I recommend just letting him look like an ___ when he floors and you just drive normal to the next light. Just point and laugh at him until the light turns green.

hahahaha i know these things wont make me go faster, just make the car run better. I was thinking about putting a huge spoiler on the back too, thats adds about 15 horsepower right?! :P
