View Full Version : Need advice on rims... still
mattieg 02-25-2009, 01:13 AM Well you guys know tons more about rims than I do so here it is. I have been thinking about picking these O.Z. ultraleggera rims up after I get my tax returns.
Offset: 48mm
Backspacing: 6.41"
Bolt Pattern: 5-100
Rec. Tire Size: 215/45-17
Weight: 17.0lbs.
What do you guys think of them? Are they a decent rim? And do you have any other suggestions.

O5_TRD_tC 02-25-2009, 01:19 AM offset is bad
Big_Bird 02-25-2009, 01:23 AM way bad
mattieg 02-25-2009, 02:19 AM whats so bad about it? Now I tried reading about rims and offset and such, but I need all the help I can get.
Ro_Ja 02-25-2009, 02:21 AM You want an offset closer to 35.
mattieg 02-25-2009, 02:23 AM I will also be on H&R coilovers, so I do not want rubbing.
And can a spacer help out with the offset in my favor?
Ro_Ja 02-25-2009, 02:24 AM Spacers lower the offset, which makes a wheel more flush with the fenders.
mattieg 02-25-2009, 02:25 AM So with this 48mm offset that is on the rim will it stick inside the wheel well?
Ro_Ja 02-25-2009, 02:26 AM Yes. The placement will look similar to stock wheels.
mattieg 02-25-2009, 02:28 AM Well that isnt bad then I suppose. What type of spacer and offset would you recommend?
And the rim itself is of good quality correct. You can bash if you want to lmao.
Ro_Ja 02-25-2009, 02:32 AM Find something closer to 40. It'll look better, but they're still tucked in.
OZ wheels are good. I'd rock 'em.
mattieg 02-25-2009, 02:33 AM Damn, I fell in love with those rims lol.
captainlaziness 02-25-2009, 02:34 AM Agreed on the offset. Those are some light weight wheels.
mattieg 02-25-2009, 02:36 AM So how big of a spacer would I use to make it look a little better. Im sorry for the questions guys im new to the tire game, and you guys are the best to ask.
mattieg 02-25-2009, 02:39 AM Maybe a staggered fit. A little wider in the front than in the rear?
Ro_Ja 02-25-2009, 02:41 AM I'd recommend 15mm, but I don't trust such large spacers. Just get wheels that fit or put a 5mm on there.
mattieg 02-25-2009, 02:56 AM Ro_Ja would you recommend a tire similar to the OZ that I mentioned above?
Ro_Ja 02-25-2009, 03:02 AM I'm presuming the wheel is 17x7 or 17x7.5. Either way, the recommended tire size is fine unless you want larger tire (225's).
Checho 02-25-2009, 03:06 AM i had actually really considered these rims before my raderwerks, for the price you can get something much better (If they are still 300+ on Tirerack)
mattieg 02-25-2009, 03:11 AM ya 263 a rim now.
Checho 02-25-2009, 03:13 AM ehh they have really gone down in price. I think you'd be the 2-3rd tC with those wheels on these forums
mattieg 02-25-2009, 04:07 AM Its so hard finding places that sell quality rims. And I usually have a hard time finding something that I actually like.
Ro_Ja 02-25-2009, 04:09 AM It's not hard if you know where to look. Also, many wheel manufacturers have a list of authorized dealers on their site.
Hyghgynx 02-25-2009, 05:49 AM Eeww... offset.
If you're looking at spacers, go with a 15mm up front and a 25mm in the back.
Although I do no condone the use of spacers. Best bet; find an offset closer to +35 or +38.
mattieg 02-25-2009, 05:24 PM anyone recomend a couple weebsites besides tirerack.com that has more high quality rims?

Many wheel manufacturers have a list of authorized dealers on their site.
Just search high end wheel sites, find styles you like, and then use the authorized dealer search.
O5_TRD_tC 02-25-2009, 05:41 PM avoid using spacers
mattieg 02-25-2009, 07:24 PM its hard finding rims i like that are similair to that wheel... or maybe im just dumb lol
Ro_Ja 02-25-2009, 07:26 PM What's wrong with the OZ wheel you posted? Just a bad offset?
I-R-Blue 02-25-2009, 07:37 PM i have the same rims.. love'em...
BTw, they're 17x8's....
the offset aren't too bad....
here's a good website to help you decide on the fitment:

Ro_Ja 02-25-2009, 07:52 PM On TireRack, enter the vehicle as a Toyota Celica and you get the same wheels as if you searched under the tC, but with good offsets (35).
I-R-Blue 02-25-2009, 07:54 PM thanks for the advice... i wish i would've known that before....
mattieg 02-25-2009, 08:16 PM Ro_Ja i owe you big time, thank you. Im hoping I will have no issues rubbing while being dropped about 2-3 inches... am I right about that?
Ro_Ja 02-25-2009, 08:19 PM With low & flush offsets, you can't be able to go too low without fender modification. If you seriously want to be 2-3 inches without rolling or pulling your fenders, you'd probably be better off getting them in the 48 offset.
mattieg 02-25-2009, 10:18 PM So it would be just like the stock wheel the way it sits? I dont know how low I plan on going with the coilovers, just want it to look good.
Ro_Ja 02-25-2009, 11:27 PM Yes, it would look like how the stock wheel sits.

so basically from 215/45/17 tire and a 17x7 with 48 offset to the rim i want which is 17x8 with a 35 offset and a tire that is 205/40/17 it would only stick out .3 inches from stock. I shouldnt have any problem lowering the car correct?
Ro_Ja 02-26-2009, 01:44 AM Not unless you want to go LOW.
mattieg 02-26-2009, 01:46 AM i dont think i would be going THAT low lmao. Def not like Corey's car haha.
mattieg 03-20-2009, 01:46 AM Im bumping this thread for a final decision on these rims. Change the offset to 35 and will run a 215/40-17 tire... Is the combination acceptable? I will be 3.5% slower as compared to a stock wheel and stick out a half an inch further.
