View Full Version : Cheap Windshields!?! axiom 01-07-2005, 01:53 PM My car is only four months old and the windshield already cracked! I know it's not completely flat, but compared to the curve on most other cars, it is. zdawg913 01-07-2005, 06:51 PM is it because of the cold temperatures or something? because mine actually is too, i noticed a small crack mo2 01-07-2005, 07:10 PM you should call around alot of shops will give you a cash discount if you don't use your insurance. on my previous car it was $150 installed but the invoice said the winshield alone was marked at $780. hope this helps TheScionicMan 01-07-2005, 07:22 PM You may want to check with your insurance, also. Mine has a lower deductible for windshields and vandalism, since these aren't really your fault. Falls under Comprehensive. It's like 100 compared to 500 and it doesn't count against me like a collision claim would. empleh 01-07-2005, 09:39 PM the other thing you might wanna check is if it was hit and broke, or if it was a stress facture. if it was hit by a rock or something, it wouldn't be covered under warranty. but, if it wasn't, it will be covered. so then you don't have to worry about paying anything. axiom 01-17-2005, 04:28 PM At first I thought it may be a stress fracture, then I noticed a small chip, and I mean SMALL! Now my windshield has two cracks! the new one is right in front of the steering wheel, no appearent chips that I can see.AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! stellarhavoc 01-17-2005, 06:57 PM i'm in the same situation!! I got a crack a few months ago.. glued it shut... but just last week it started to spread.. BOOOO :x There is a tiny chip.. but who knows, it could be a stress fracture. i wonder how often this happens to xA owners.. i know its pretty common for those with xBs. :? stellarhavoc 01-17-2005, 06:57 PM i'm in the same situation!! Back_In_Black_xA 01-18-2005, 03:53 AM Mine broke on Saturday, I think a rock flew up on the highway, weak sauce. seblue 01-18-2005, 09:57 PM ...you can add me to the list....new Xa owner, broken windshield...told 'stress fracture' shows up on inside of glass, so if crack on outside, caused by rock,or something. scionara! seblue PandaIst 01-18-2005, 10:29 PM hmmm....my windshield got hit by a rock like 4 days ago. It was really loud when it happened. I looked immediately after to see any crack...there wasn't any. I'm hoping no stress fractures ends up. *crosses fingers* About how many days after the windshield gets hit do the stress fractures show up? waynephinney 01-25-2005, 04:10 PM Speaking of windshields....Have you noticed how flat the windshield is on an xA? I know it's not completely flat, but compared to the curve on most other cars, it is. I actually like that. Some cars make me dizzy with their fishbowl effects. Flatter is sometimes better. time2design 01-29-2005, 01:55 AM Speaking of windshields....Have you noticed how flat the windshield is on an xA? But keep in mind that the "arch" of a usual windshield will have greater strength integrity versus a completely flat surface. JessXA 02-15-2005, 12:07 AM Mine is about 7 months old and I just got a crack last weekend... from a construction truck on the expressway. Kzuki 02-15-2005, 01:32 PM As far as insurance goes. . . You may be able to get it replaced for free. I know here in Florida, as long as you have full coverage, there is no out-of-pocket expense to you for windshield replacement. Some places will even give you a box of Steaks for taking your car to them. mmmmmm...Steak! :D Oh! I like the flatness of the windshield myself. Just another unique feature on a kick @#$ car! |
